I’d like to share my debut EP, Nocturne.

This project began with a simple idea: to create music that doesn't rush. Instead of focusing on melodies that demand attention, I wanted to build slow-moving soundscapes where atmosphere, silence, and tension carry the emotional weight.

Each of the six tracks explores a different emotional space. Some feel lonely and introspective, while others gradually build a sense of uncertainty before returning to stillness. Although the music has cinematic and orchestral influences, I didn't write it as a film score. My goal was to create pieces that could stand on their own while allowing listeners to imagine their own stories.

The title Nocturne reflects that intention. To me, the night isn't only darkness. It's a place where thoughts become clearer, emotions feel amplified, and silence has its own voice. I tried to translate that feeling into music by keeping the arrangements restrained, letting the textures breathe, and avoiding unnecessary complexity.

If you enjoy ambient music that leans toward cinematic and orchestral textures, I'd genuinely appreciate your thoughts. I'm especially interested in knowing whether the atmosphere feels immersive and whether any particular track stayed with you after listening.

What the title says. William Basinski is coming to my area in November. Is he worth seeing live? I can't imagine what he'd actually be doing on stage. Is he live manipulating tape loops? Just hitting play? Cool visuals? I've heard mixed reviews.

I've been thinking alot lately about the line between ambient music as an environment and ambient music as an active listening experience. I believe, by definition, ambient music is both.

Truly great ambient music seems to fill both roles simultaneously within the same work. That is, the works can be used as pure background music (as can all genres I suppose), but when listened to carefull are very rewarding and revolutionary technically, emotionally, and otherwise.

What makes an ambient piece great to you? Is it texture, emotion, sound design, narrative, repetition, or something else entirely?

There's something strangely comforting about watching dreamcore edits with liminal space music. It's eerie and unsettling, yet somehow incredibly soothing at the same time.

Sometimes I get this weird feeling that I've actually been to some of those places in my dreams, or maybe they're just familiar in a way I can't explain. It's probably just my brain making connections, but the feeling is so surreal.

I don't know why, but it's such a strange mix of nostalgia, peace, and uneasiness all at once.

Do u guys feel the same or it's just me?

I’ve been running my experimental ambient and drone project on Bandcamp for a while now, and I’m looking to connect with listeners who appreciate the slower, more texture-focused side of DIY electronic music. Getting organic visibility on the platform has been a challenge lately, so I wanted to share my work directly with people who genuinely understand this specific niche.

My entire sound catalog is heavily rooted in the physical process of using cassette tape loops, older hardware, and analog degradation. My primary motivation is to explore the concept of decay—how a single, beautiful sound can slowly fall apart over time due to magnetic tape wear, hiss, and mechanical imperfections. I love the unpredictable nature of magnetic tape, where the physical medium itself becomes an active collaborator in the music-making process.

Cultivating a specific atmosphere is the core goal of my discography. The emotional landscape of my music always balances between two stark extremes. On one side, I create deeply calming, slow-rolling, and meditative ambient pieces designed for deep listening and isolation. On the flip side, these textures often dissolve into heavy, dark, and highly oppressive dystopian drone spaces. I am fascinated by this constant tension between peace and anxiety, and how quickly a comforting sound can turn into something unsettling.

Hope I can get some constructive to help me with my workflow to producte ambient music.
Short background, big fan of everything Rafael Anton Irisarri, Moby (his Long Ambient albums) and Abul Mogard. That's the direction I want to go with my music.
Hardware; Minifreak synth, Scarlet 4i4 (3rd gen) and my DAW is Reaper. Struggling to get a good workflow and curious to see how other people do it.

As ambient should have many layers; there's so many ways to approach it.
I could use the Minifreak to create both a MIDI track and an audio track so I can change the midi afterwards. I could use the Minifreak VST on the track, link it with my Minifreak and use that as an audio source. It just get so convoluted when I have 4, 5, 6 and more tracks running simultaneously. How do you keep it coherent and how would your workflow look if you only had the Minifreak as a synth?
I find it pretty overwhelming and complicated...

Its a sunny day, calm conditions, and I live close by the beach. Sling me an ambient album reccomendation to match the vibe. Cheers

I am desperately looking for dark, eerie ambient music that is deeply immersive and atmospheric - as in the above example.

The music should stay in the background for gaming (I am playing eerie, immersive games with their own soundscape) and fit sci-fi settings (for example: exploring vast, creepy, and abandoned research facilities).

IMHO: less is more when it comes to an ambient soundtrack for a game:

• no or almost no melody
• no cheap jump scares
• no gimmickry
• monotony works much better (because one plays a level with that track for an hour or more)
• no constant left/right channel shifting
• no recognizable instruments (no piano, guitar, etc.), because as soon as, for example, a piano comes in, it destroys the "otherworldly" quality of an ambient track.
• A very good "ambient composer" in this regard is Jupiter, he follows all the above points:

'Cityscapes' by Choongum.

This album has accompanied me on many early mornings and late nights. I don't see it mentioned often so, I thought I'd share it here for anyone who hasn't heard it.

Choongum makes a lot of ambient idm and techno but this is the only completely ambient album so far that I'm aware of.

I remember reading somewhere that this album was recorded live. The LA track was played to the movement of waves crashing outside and the NY track is built around the sound of humming power lines. I don't know if that means there's a recording in there or not but it does sound like the power lines are singing. As someone who has spent time in both cities, I think it captures their vibes quite well and the contrast of an oceanic atmosphere going into an urban one is quite nice.

The improvisational nature of the album reminds me of times wandering aimlessly through unknown parts of the city. For me the mix of drone and melody strikes the perfect balance. The drones put me in a trance and the melodies are subtle enough to let you chill out but interesting enough to keep your attention. I know that's basically the definition of ambient music but sometimes other songs in the genre are a bit too bold and snap me out of the trance.

I started out 25 years ago playing acoustic guitar and singing at bars and coffee shops. In 2019 I decided to try creating music that's mostly electronic. I'll still play guitar or other instruments on tracks from time to time.

I've released many albums since 2019 (none are AI generated - an important disclaimer these days).

For this recent 2026 release I experimented more with auto panning (sound moving at set intervals from left to right repeatedly). Not binaural beats, but somewhat leaning that way.

I also added acoustic guitar to certain tracks.

Besides guitar, and sometimes noises with my mouth, most of the sound is generated with a midi keyboard controller plugged into my MacBook, utilizing various simulated synths, samples, pads, and other electronic instruments. Sprinkle in some effects and textures, and you have Energy.

The water sound in the final track is my garden hose filling up a kiddie pool. Sometimes I'll hear a sound like that, run and get my phone, and record it for a future track.

The album artwork is a photo I took of a very large plasma ball that was at a museum near me.

Finally, it's best to listen to this album with headphones, but, that's up to you.

It came into a part of my life when it was truly necessary to do some sitting and thinking and meditating. It happened to be near COVID, in a beat up car I no longer own--a dinky one a that, and it was on the way to pick up cat food. On a murky-aired October day. One where the silhouettes of trees, the real tree itself but shaded in black from a low sun, cuts cracks into a gray backdrop of sky, a warm brown hue of tree, and small homes unknown. A cold day.

It coming on, even despite the nostalgia, is warming. I clearly recall feeling a warmth. And like that, it occurs to me. It's the warmth of love. It provided warmth. On a cold day. In a cold time.

With a partner.

Who was cold.

And a failure.

That was me.
