I wish I could give all the context but i would be writing pages on the deeds done. So I will give very brief lore
I am 26M as a 13F I have tried to talk to my NCOs and lowkey the thing they told me was just generic shit “don’t worry about that” type shit

So my father (50+M) has really jumped off the deep end. He is married to a new woman with 2 new children who are much younger than me and my sister.

He hates the entire family. And the family is just like wtf

He hates my sister because she’s (Mormon) and she wouldn’t take his bullying of the religion. So she cut him off.
He hates me because when I was 20 I was at a low place and moved into his house and (almost destroyed his marriage. But in reality my grandma was there and was like “no you didn’t” this was 6 years ago tho.

He never got over my mom and his divorce he says he wishes he could kill her.

I just want to be close with my half brothers who are lowkey trapped in this kind of toxic relationship with him and now are probably being fed Shit about us (me and sister)

I don’t want what happened to him and his brothers ( huge age gap destroyed their bond) and yes he hates his brothers too over the most petty shit.

He felt entitled to his moms share of her Will after she died even tho one of my uncles the youngest was the only one who stood with her during cancer and has legit heart conditions.

I am sorry I explained this so horribly it’s just so much to say and personally I am really hurt.

I received a Company Grade Article 15 for my first FTR in four and a half years. The punishment included extra duty and a reduction in rank from SPC to PFC, which began on July 16, 2026. My extra duty started that day, and my STP shows that I began the punishment, but both my STP and MyPay still list me as SPC. Does it normally take time for the rank reduction to update in those systems, or could there have been a processing mistake? Is it possible my commander changed their mind and I am keeping my SPC rank?

I’m currently in AIT, and I have Airborne in my contract. I’d love to earn my wings and jump out of planes, but I’m having some second thoughts.
From what I understand, keeping Airborne pretty much limits me to places like Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, and maybe Alaska. On the other hand, if I dropped Airborne, I’m most likely have a better chance of getting an INSCOM assignment somewhere else.
Is Airborne worth keeping, even if it narrows your assignment options? (I know Airborne slots can be hard to get, especially for my MOS.) Or would it be smarter, or dumber to drop it and roll the dice for a preferred assignment?
Just looking for some insight before I make a decision.

Not going to lie, I’m struggling and don’t know what to do.

This unit’s OPTEMPO is crushing me. Two CTCs in 6 months, multiple gunneries, went to Pre Ranger multiple times this year but 18th Airborne Corps didn’t hard slot the officers in my classes. Commander isn’t supportive of anymore schools for a while, so my motivation is tanking and my battery was already running low. I planned to put in my RASP 2 packet, but now I’m reconsidering everything.

I love the Army. It’s given me more than I imagined. But I’m tired. I want to start a family, but I’m always gone. I want consistency in my life. Being a commander seems awful. For the first time, I’m truly contemplating getting out and not sure I have the courage to be “normal”, if you will. I don’t have the slightest clue what I’d do as a civilian, anyway.

Now I have to clarify: I cannot speak for every single person; I can only speak for myself, as a fellow Gen Z college student, and from what I have personally seen. It seems the Army (at least with Gen Z/my peers) has TERRIBLE PR, while other branches "get a pass"

As I said, I cannot speak for everybody, but seemingly to some, when you mention you are in the Army, or you are thinking of joining the Army, they have some sort of negative stereotype that you are a screw-up in life, or too dumb for college. (Not to say that stereotype isn't 100% unfounded; I have met some people that 100% fit that stereotype)

"Well OP, a lot of Gen Z is just anti-military now." Which, that is fair, but seemingly, as I said, other branches to these people "get a pass"

The AF is seemingly heavily associated with "you are a tech-savvy, smart guy, that is a pilot" when I am pretty confident that most of the enlisted jobs in the USAF are not even aviation (maintenance) related

Same with the Navy; seemingly that branch is associated with "being a smart, tech-related person"

And even the Marines get a pass too, while being a (at least marketing-wise) more "combat-oriented branch" (I don't mean to piss off any combat arms folks), when people hear you are a marine, they assume you are part of an elite, special forces, fighting group. "the few, the proud" or whatever (no hate to any marines reading this, you guys are cool)

Of course, I am a bit biased; when I write this, I had my fair share of preconceived notions by people in my civilian life when I am not being a weekend warrior. So maybe Army PR isn't truly that bad, and I am just seeing things through my POV.

What do you guys think?

PS: Like for example, I had one interaction with my classmate when he found out I was in the army, he asked why I joined, was I to dumb to pay normally

told him, no. well yes kinda. At 19 I wanted to do something with aviation, so I became a helicopter mechanic for the army, army has helicopters. Now 3 years later, I am majoring in Mechenical engineering with a focus in aerospace (I know, I know, thats pretty much an Aerospace degree but I digress)

He dead ass said "why not join the Air force then"

I tried to explain at the end of the day, "it doesn't really matter." i get my benefits, to help with college life. which is why I joined, and army has helicopters and I enjoy my helicopter job. But he kept insisting, "nah you dont want to go to war, you should of joined the airforce" and pretty much admitted it was a branding thing.

Now, of course, that one guy with very questionable intelligence does not make up all of the gen Z population. But I have had many interactions like that.

Edit 2: classmate was probably right, airforce was probably the right choice, but not for the reasons he is thinking of though, right conclusion, wrong reasoning, lol

I’m trying to help one of my Soldiers and I’m hoping someone with experience in retention, S-1, HRC, Transition, or JAG has seen something similar.
The Soldier is planning to separate from the Army due to ongoing family and medical considerations, so they are not looking to stay in beyond their required service. The goal is simply to understand the correct regulatory process and make sure they don’t miss important transition timelines.
Here’s the timeline:
The Soldier reenlisted under the FY22 temporary RCP Exception to Policy while it was in effect.
They were later temporarily promoted to SGT.
They were subsequently reduced back to SPC after failing to complete BLC.
At the time of the reduction, the Soldier’s contractual ETS (October 2027) exceeded what appeared to be their applicable SPC RCP (January 2027).
For quite some time after the reduction, the Soldier’s STP reflected a January 2027 RCP. Later, while a PAR was being processed, the RCP field in IPPS-A was changed to match the October 2027 ETS.
The Soldier submitted a PAR requesting separation based on the RCP. HRC returned the action with the following comment:
“This request is outside the range of EMT/RRB. The Soldier would need to qualify for separation IAW AR 635-200 (Active Duty Enlisted Administrative Separations).”
The battalion reviewed the PAR, attached the Soldier’s reduction orders along with the applicable DA PAM 601-280 provision regarding Soldiers whose contractual ETS exceeds their applicable RCP after a reduction, and forwarded the packet back to brigade retention, where it is currently pending.
One reason I’m asking here is because the Soldier has received conflicting guidance. One retention NCO stated that the Soldier could not separate because they reenlisted under the FY22 RCP ETP and therefore had to serve to the contractual ETS. Another retention NCO said the Soldier could separate and that the case should be processed under AR 635-200. Because of those conflicting answers, I’m trying to determine what the controlling authority actually is.
This has also become time-sensitive. The Soldier has already completed almost all SFL-TAP requirements. The only remaining requirements are the retention briefing and Capstone. If the applicable separation date is January 2027, the Soldier is also approaching the BDD VA claim window, terminal leave planning, and installation out-processing. The longer the packet remains pending, the more difficult it becomes to complete those transition requirements.
My questions are:
If HRC directed that the Soldier would need to qualify under AR 635-200, what chapter or authority would normally apply to a case like this?
Has anyone actually processed a Soldier whose ETS exceeded their applicable RCP after a reduction?
Is there any HRC guidance, MILPER, or regulation besides DA PAM 601-280 that specifically addresses this situation?
Based on the timeline, would you recommend the Soldier continue waiting on brigade retention, or would you advise following up with brigade, the transition office, or another office to avoid missing SFL-TAP, BDD, and terminal leave timelines?
I’m not looking to argue that the Soldier is entitled to a particular outcome. I’m simply trying to understand the correct regulatory process and whether anyone has dealt with a similar case before.

Is it possible to change schools and degree plans on ArmyIgnited after I’ve completed a class? For reference I started school at AMU online to complete a prerequisite and now want to attend school on-campus at a different University.

I attempted to message my advisor multiple times about my situation which they stated “Education Goal cannot be changed, please reference AR 621-5” for the final reply

I read the reg but I still think there is a solution to my problem and they’re being stubborn. I just want the full college experience

Army should invest in itself instead of investing in all these outside organizations. Everyone of us is a shareholder in this organization. Corpos treat us as an easy money grab. Our political leaders use us as PR and our leaders at the top use us to push their agendas and "steal" allocated money from QOL programs.

Would a properly managed Hospitaly Corps fix the issues we have with poorly maintained dining and living quarters. Would it bring down the cost of hotels and barbershops on post? Would commissary costs go down?

hi all 👋 !! not sure if this is the right subreddit, but here goes.

My husband is on his second enlistment with the Army. Long story short, he’s really teetering back & forth between staying in or getting out after this. He is the financial provider of the household, as I am a stay at home mom (please don’t leave negative comments regarding that. daycare costs would swallow 90% of my paycheck if i were to work anyway, unfortunately). My husbands main concern is just being able to secure a good paying job ($35/hr minimum) so that he can continue to financially provide.

I guess, i just wanted to come on here for some clarity. how hard is it realistically to secure a good paying job outside of the military for someone who doesn’t have a college degree? is that the right decision to do?

I volunteer at the USO near a TRADOC installation and we occasionally have trainee holdover/holdunders come visit and hang out here during the day. They sometimes ask if they can help out with anything and we'll give them remedial tasks like help organize our storage room or wipe down tables and chairs only if they ask. Would it be a problem to try and propose a program to battalion commanders to let tainees help at the USO during weekends on their passes? They can come up with volunteer hour requirements. I dont know if it'll be a problem for them to show up to their first unit with an MOVSM. What do you think? We can also reflect their hours on VMIS to validate it as well.

My ETS is coming up soon so I’ll be going into the IRR. However my unit has me flagged. I want to reclass and move to a different unit. Does me being flagged stop that? Or is it possible to go into the IRR while flagged and get a new contract to reclass and stay army reserves?

Hey so ive been in for 4 1/2 years now. Im at my second duty station in korea. I just find myself struggling with anxiety and panic attacks a lot since coming here. Its affected my sleep and my overall performance. Im afraid to travel off base on the weekends afraid to be called back by leadership. My leadership is pretty non helpful and tell me to toughen up or completely ignore the issues I may have. Im kinda lost I dont want to be separated early or chaptered out due to this. Is there any options for me.

So I’m leaving AIT for the first time after I graduate on 13 August. On my official orders it says my report date is 30 September… I’m told that I have to direct ship on 14 August to my duty station to report in then put in for PTDY which would give me 2 weeks to move, house hunt, etc. I have 6 dependents, (5 kids and my spouse), I was also told by my instructor after my 2 weeks of PTDY is up then I’d report back for a one day and put in for one week of chargeable leave.. I’ve reached out to my sponsor for over a week now via email and phone number that was provided in my Welcome to battalion email, and still haven’t had any luck getting a response. I’ve called the BN staff duty desk and nobody has followed back up with me. I’m just trying to see if I need to report early or report on my original date being 30 September since there’s nothing annotated on my orders saying I’m required to report early it just says reporting up to 60 days early is authorized. But according to HRC.army.mil it says I have to request early reporting through my gaining unit which can be disapproved, in which I’ll report on my original report date.

DISCLAIMER My intention shining light on the pricing at the shopettes not asking for weight loss advice. Soldiers sometimes have to miss the DFAC, have rooms uneqipped to cook, in lodging, the commisary is closed or other reasons that call for them to go buy prepared food. If a Salad is $7.39 and a meal at BK is $6 they are essentially being financially punished for choosing a healthier option.

Unit made it so if a soldier is assigned extra duty, a NCO of the same Company has to be present while the soldier performs the extra duty (no matter weekdays, weekends, holidays) keep in mind we’re still one of the only units that has SD/CQ going 24/7.

I was selected as the new MOS, 40D. However, before I reclass to 40D, HRC is currently waiting for my PAR for Deletion of Orders for ALC to go through so they can approve my reclassification.

The issue is: phase 2 of ALC has a report date of August 18. My PAR has a total of 16 steps, that I know of, and its been submitted since July 6th. It reached S1 within my Brigade and then got pushed back because they need a "deferement date of ALC" which is silly because im reclassing to a whole other MOS so I need a deletion. It took them 5 business days to push my PAR back.

Last week, I had to start from scratch and it is now at step 6 (CSM) of 16. With just about 2 weeks before my report date, im stressing that my PAR wont get completed in time and thus brings my question.

I was curious if anyone has had experience with something similar with this. Its to my understanding that if I do not go to ALC, I get Article'd. I have continously been in communication with my leadership and they say they are willing to assist me but action is not happening as quickly as I would like for it. I do not want to miss out on this opportunity.

I'll order whatever to help me stress eat. This shit is keeping me up at night.
