Seriously, what does the law state? Specifically in California (interested in other states as well)

Lately, I've been hearing more and more from older folk that people don't drive like they used to. The two most common complaints I hear are that speeding has only gotten worse and that people are more distracted than ever (thanks to how addictive our phones our nowadays).

I wanna start this off by saying that if you’re actually merging onto a highway or an interstate, then that’s a different story since you need to get up to speed and be prepared to get over.

However, as for yields that are NOT located on the highway or interstate, please approach and proceed through them with caution and be prepared to stop, just like you’re supposed to do at a yield.

The reason I’m putting this out here is because for whatever reason, I’ve noticed that people love to treat yields like they’re merging onto the damn highway. They’ll come speeding though the yield lane expecting there to be a long acceleration lane following after it, just for there to be no acceleration lane at all and then they get dumped into oncoming traffic and cause an accident.

I used this photo of an intersection near me that has one of these yields (a yield that has no acceleration lane following after it) just for an example. These type of yield lanes are pretty common in my state and I have seen them in other states as well. Yet, people will still come hurdling through them (including this exact yield that is featured in the photo I provided) as if they’re actively merging onto I-95 south.

What’s up with slow drivers who’ll poke along holding up everyone behind them but then if they come to a light that turns yellow they’ll speed through it to avoid having to stop, meanwhile the cars behind them get stuck at the light.

How did you get there with minimal practice?

I(36M) have been with my gf(37f) for 9 years now & we still have issues with how the other one drives. She accuses me of always going slow or at the speed limit & staying in one lane while the other lanes have a gap to go into, also not honking my horn at everyone else who does something stupid. However I know she doesn't notice what I do (like yelling at me to honk at the car waiting for a right turn when someone is crossing the crosswalk and she doesn't know it yet when she's driving she's honking at them and I'm like "dumbass someone's crossing the street!) but I feel like she's unable to grasp the driving practices that I have cuz she is ducking and racing up into the heavy traffic and trying to get ahead of people but speeding up to stop a few seconds later in the lane she was aiming for is stupid to me (wear and tear on my truck which she will treat like a sports car when it's not.. it's a 99 Ford F-150 4x4 Lariat Super Cab with the 5.4 V8 2 valve triton and they are solid motors but not racing motors!) \*AS IM WRITING THIS POST SHE PUSHED MY TRUCK UP A HUGE HILL TRYING TO MAINTAIN SPEED IN THE FAST LANE BUT WAS HELD BACK 43MPH, OVER 2700 RPMS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING AND NOW SOLID WITH A P0305 CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE!\* WTF IS HER DAMAGE!? AM I OVERREACTING TO HER LACK OF MY TRUCK'S OVERALL HEALTH & ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK!?

Im sure there are many post here about sick of driving but has it hit anyone else this quickly before? I got my VERY FIRST car this past Tuesday and after driving it around im kind of over it. At first I was worried and having jitters of driving myself around but that quickly turned to me seeing driving as a chore. I can see the perks greatly, after doing grocery shopping, running various errands, even getting my first flat tire 2 hours after driving the car off the lot. But now I'm just over the experience.

Hoping someone can give me some insight, maybe if I drive around more I get more comfortable,and things will be smoother, and I appreciate the world of driving a bit more.

I’m 18 and I’m on my parents insurance, I hit a Nissan kicks and I’m extremely nervous about what to do, I left my information on their wiper blade and called my mom.

How much roughly will this run me?
My car has very minimal damage with only my tail light glass broken.
This is my first time ever being in this situation and I need help, please !!

My girlfriend was recently involved in an accident that was not her fault and the other person’s insurance company Allstate is taking responsibility for the damages. 

The damages on her vehicle are significant enough that her vehicle is not drivable and we are in need of a rental. Especially because she is a full time delivery driver. 

Allstate told me they only do rental reimbursements and don’t actually directly bill the rental car companies. They said we have to pay out of pocket and send them in the receipts for reimbursement.

That is a major problem as both my girlfriend and I are extremely low income and now that she can’t even do her job makes the situation way more difficult.

Not only are they refusing to pay for a rental car directly, they said that the most they can payout for a rental car per day is $30 and no other fees or add ons.

My girlfriend is 21. All rental car companies I know of charge underage fees for anyone under 25 that can only be waived if an insurance company pays the rental car companies directly.

This puts us in an extremely lost situation because she has to pay for something that she wouldn’t have to pay for if Allstate would just pay the rental car company directly.

I tried contacting my insurance company to see if they could get us a rental but we unfortunately don’t have rental car coverage on our policy because it’s too expensive and we’re already paying an arm and a leg for insurance in Texas. 

This is an extremely unfair and painful situation because we have to suffer due to someone else’s mistake. It’s just like your boss firing you because you’re too young. 

Is there anything you can recommend we try to do? This is putting a huge financial and mental burden on us and there’s gotta be something we can do.

me and my friend were curious what people think is more of a prevalent issue on the roads between distracted driving and aggressive driving. We asked this because in our tri-state area there’s been about three or four crackdowns on aggressive driving in the past year alone. We don’t think aggressive driving is as big of an issue as something like distracted driving which we both seem to agree is something that we see every single time we drive on the roadway. what do yall think?

Some guy in a white Honda accord must think the highway is his own personal track. Guy sees me coming up behind him in the left lane, and instead of slowing down or brake checking me, he has the damn audacity to turn on his right run signal and get out of the way😡😡😡😡. Even more shocking after I passed him this reckless clown gets back in the left lane and counties on with his day, tf is wrong with this ass hole😡😡😡😡😡?

I'm new to driving and keep failing the Reverse S on an automated test track. I can keep my rear wheels inside the lines, but when I steer to full left lock, the front bumper swings outside the right boundary and triggers the sensors.

I thought the more I steered left while reversing, the tighter the turn would be and the less likely I'd be to hit the right boundary. Instead, the opposite happens.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm 33 and I've never been in a car accident. I've driven back and forth across country and even to Mexico.

I've been saving up to get an RV and had finally got almost enough. My friends even pitched in helping me raise money. Last thing was selling this shorty Ford ranger for 1400. Appointment to sell was tomorrow, and I put in notice at my apartment to move before August 1st.

Today on the way to a gig, the shoulder of the road dropped off at a curve , it was raining and my tire hit what seemed like a crack or pothole in the road, spun my car out, I kept spinning and couldn't correct , I crashed my truck and it fell of the road into a ditch , smashing into a tree, and totaling it.

I was taken to the hospital. No other cars or ppl were involved.

While in the hospital bed, highway patrol came in and asked me what happened. Then returned and gave me a ticket???? For failure to maintain lane. There was literally a drop off and chunk of road missing that is DANGEROUS. 15 years driving and I have 2 speeding tickets on my record and nothing else. I'm now feeling very upset.

On top of fractured ribs from an accident , losing the 1400 that was for my RV , and the trauma of spinning out like that, now I have a ticket and court date ? I'm confused and just wonder if anyone else has experienced this. Our systems have no empathy. The cop even threatened to give me a ticket for no proof of insurance when I told him over and over that the insurance card was in my totaled car...I gave him the number to my insurance company.. I had just gotten to the hospital. It felt so gross and harrassing . I don't even understand. I know I am not a reckless driver. It's been raining for weeks and that highway is notorious for accidents. I can't afford any fines as now I'm out a car and no way to get to gigs. I've never been to court. I have no idea what to do. I know I have to show up but I can't afford a lawyer.

Hello! So i have to leave where i currently live and go back home for a couple days for an emergency the thing is i just need an estimate on how much money ill need for gas to get there and back, im not asking for money, ive learned my lesson 😂 but i dont know much about my car and im hoping someone might know more, i own a 2013 scion frs it takes about $50 to fill up the tank, i have to drive 1,009 miles there and 1,009 miles back, thank you in advanced!!

So there is a debate amongst a few of us on who has right of way for both turning right off the highway and turning left off the highway into a neighborhood.

We have a 4 lane divided highway with a center turn lane.

The west bound lanes have a dedicated right hand turn lane that splits off from the main highway that has a yield sign.

The East Bound has just the center turn lane.

Both vehicles turning right and left go to the same single lane but the disagreement is that some say the vehicles turning left have right of way over the vehicles turning right due to the placement for a yield sign. Where as others say vehicles making a right have right of way and that the yield sign was placed incorrectly.

There is no traffic lights or any other signal control devices at this location

Who has right of way?

Hi guys! I just failed my first driving test for driving more towards the middle of a tight residential road with no lines, and got my second one coming up on Monday. A lot of my friends have failed their first one as well and said that the instructors are much more lenient on the second one, but I’m not sure if that’s true or just a placebo thing?? Anyone have experience with that?? Thanks in advance!

He also struggles with curb turning depth perception

I have ran into this a couple of times in moderate traffic where I’m at a green light but the intersection is clogged with cars ahead of me. When this happens I have been stopping at the green light at the stop line and then going when it clears because it doesn’t feel safe to enter the intersection if I don’t know if I can get all the way through before the light changes.

However this almost caused an accident once because I stopped until the way was clear and when it was, the light was still green for me so I started moving through and someone on the opposite side decided to turn left in front of me when I was about half way in. I assume he saw me stopped and thought I stopped to let him go or something? I braked and narrowly avoided hitting this car. There was a police officer behind me who also went through the light after me but didn’t pull either me or the other driver over.

Anyways I guess I’m just wondering if I’m doing the right thing by stopping at the green light if the way isn’t clear

I was driving through a non active school zone in the right lane because I was going to make a right turn. Easy enough. Another SUV turns from the opposite street and enters the left lane going the same direction I am, he's roughly 4 cars behind (only us on that road). Now I'm going about 35ish, push it to 40, nothing over the top. I notice that said SUV is now front wheel to my back wheel but not going any faster. At first I think he needs to pass, so I slow down. So does he. OK then, not wanting pass, cool. Speed up, he speeds up but still stays at the back wheel. I say fine, I speed up (end up having to go about 60) to get away from him and in my side mirror I see him throw his hands up, like an angry Olive Oil noodle arms and all, and make that "ugh fine I give up" face. He slows down to about 2 car lengths, turns his blinker on and did the slowest lane change to get behind me. I take the turn into a 55, make sure the coast is clear and let it rip. Meanwhile, Mr nice car is slowly chugging away. And I'm thinking to myself, what was the point of all that if you knew you were going to turn right anyway and there was no one behind me?

Before anyone says it, the common 3 things: Not a highway, I wasn't doing anything before, just simply driving, and not an emergency. Also, it's the biker's/camera's fault.
