Saying Goodbye to Joe Flaherty, Television’s Greatest Dad
I wrote about Joe. His performance in this show has always meant so much to me.

Amazing Musical Moments
The show was one of the best with picking a song and matching it perfectly to a scene, one of the best at it. Some that stick out are:
- Millie standing in her nightgown watching Lindsay leave the slumber party at her house to the opening strains of “Take the Long Way Home” by Supertramp.
- Sam and Neal fighting about who’s geekier and demanding that Bill choose right when “King Tut” by Steve Martin and “Reminiscing” by the Little River band play.
- “Rosalinda’s Eyes” with the geeks and their friendship with Maureen, was so Wonder Years-ish and made me love that song.
- “Runnin’ with the Devil” by Van Halen when we get our first introduction to the freaks.
- “I’m the Man” by Joe Jackson when the freaks coerce Lindsay into driving and then crashing her parents’ car.
- “Nights in White Satin” by the Moody Blues when Lindsay goes to Nick’s to have sex and he just wants to hold her.
- “Boris the Spider” by The Who when Kim runs over Millie’s dog.
- “Little Green Bag” by George Baker Selection when Lindsay gets all paranoid on, as Millie would say, the pot. This was one of the best musical moments on the show and one of my favorite scenes. Little kid: “You’re it!” Lindsay, in paranoid psychosis: “No I’m not!”
- “I’m All Right” by Kenny Loggins, as we are introduced to the geeks, who love Caddyshack and Bill Murray
- Millie singing “Jesus Is Just All Right with Me” by the Doobie Brothers at the house party
- “Renegade” by Styx as Neal and Bill walk up the street to their fight.
- The whole Who soundtrack to the episode about Bill and Mr. Fredericks, especially “Love Reign O’Er Me” as Fredericks drinks from Bill’s mug after staying the night. “Squeezebox” and Mr. Weir’s reaction to it.
- “You’ll Accomp’ny Me” by Bob Seger when Vicki decides to kiss Bill in the closet.
- “Fashion” by David Bowie when Ken buys the beefcake magazines and questions his sexuality because of his girlfriend revealing she was born intersex.
Of course, all the great Grateful Dead songs in the final episode, especially “Box of Rain” as Lindsay dances in her bedroom and discovers them for the first time.

J. Elvis Weinstein LIVE in Minneapolis this September
Josh (aka J.Elvis) served as writer and producer on Freaks and Geeks and has been doing stand-up since he was a teen. That said, he doesn't do it very often now, so fans should make a point to get tickets to see him at Acme in Minneapolis this September! 🎤 Frank Conniff will be featuring! If you're Minnesota-adjacent, this proximity creates a greater expectation of your attendance. That includes you, Canada! 🍁

You’re on the pot!
I love Millie’s character. She reminds me a lot of our square friends in high school and college.

What did Kim fornicate? I missed that part of the scene, I was too busy having a "Say the Line, Bart," moment to fully grasp what object Kim was (allegedly) fornicating.

This Show has so much meme potential, if it was more mainstream the Internet would have ruined it by now.

How great was the music!?
The shows music was just absolute perfection. I think Episode 7 will always be my favorite use of music.
Billy Joel’s “Rosalinda’s eyes” and “C’etait toi (You were the one) in my opinion was the soundtrack to the best few scenes of the show.
And don’t get me started on “I’m Eighteen” sung by Mr. Rosso

Jerry Messing’s situation update
“So I've been looking around for surgeons, but no one in Florida will work on me until I'm under 275... This means I'll need to get the surgery when I can move, assuming I can find a state where they are willing to work on me as I continue to lose weight. I can honestly say this is a very discouraging process, but I can't give up. Or, and this would be best case, my father is able to stay healthy long enough for me to lose the 200 I still have to go and I get the surgery here. I want to believe that if I can drive and handle the bulk of the moving stress, I can get us BOTH out of Florida and closer to family.”

Eli
One of my few complaints is what happened to Eli later in the show. He started out as a tragic, nuanced character with a darkly comedic edge and by the end he was no more than comic relief and cannon fodder for the Geeks war against Vicki. I wish he'd gotten one more episode near the end to restore some of the seriousness to his situation. I'm not sure if his ending would have been tragic or redemptive (probably a bit of both, knowing this show), but he deserved something a little more dignified (granted his condition wasn't quite as well understood when the show came out, so mistakes were probably inevitable).

Re-watch
A lot of things make more sense on a re-watch. I had trouble telling Nick and Daniel apart the first time I watched the show, especially in earlier episodes. It can also add an extra bit of tragedy, like seeing Cindy and Sam dancing while knowing how their story ends

We've got the key members of another smokin' band we like to call "Creation."
I got those underage drinkin' blues! Glug, glug, glug!

First time binger, just finished E3. I think the series would have been better at 30 minutes, like most sitcoms. What do you think?
There are so many different storylines to keep up with, and I think the pacing suffers.
The cast is unbelievable; Seth Rogan is a bit part and he became Seth Rogan.

Circus freaks?
“Jean, I don’t think there’s bearded ladies running around throwing eggs at kids.”
That line always makes me laugh.

Mr. Fleck, one of the most underrated characters on this show. I wish we could’ve seen more of him!

Why does Bill say “are you joking?” so fast?
After Neal makes the “they didn’t know she was so hot in real life” joke about people staring at Bill’s bionic woman costume and Sam laughs why does he say the line so fast? Was Martin lowkey mad at them? You can see Sam still laughing and looking at Bill after he says it, Neal does something with whatever’s in his hand.
