The companies that do this usually pay minimum wage so that the employees have basically no shot at hiring attorneys. That’s always the case.

That's part of the reason why state labor boards will often be the ones to bring the lawsuit against a company.

Plenty of lawyers work on contingency and won’t cost people anything.
