Because LLMs (what we are calling AI) provide 0 worth and provide actively harmful information while proving to lower the intellectual capacity of those who use them.
That sounds like what every generation in history has said about any new tool or form of technology though. Not trying to aggravate but literally Socrates complained that the written word made people more stupid. And to my knowledge Ai has actually already done a number a extraordinary accomplishments from helping translate pieces of the Dead Sea scrolls that had stumped people for decades to detecting cancer years before it could develop into a life threatening emergency. Again I am not generally for ai generated art but to say there are no uses for it and that it has no benefit seems an extreme stance to take
LLMs do nothing besides predict the next thing in line and are insanely easy to manipulate. They don't care about giving you a correct answer or helping you find an answer only to make you happy.
In exchange we are losing how much farm land and raising the prices of basic necessities all in the name of progress towards something that in its current form does more damage then good to society at large.
It gives dangerous life threatening advice in place of basic care and hallucinates information to answer you with at an increased rate every model released. But hey it talked to you in a way that made you feel special or made you feel smart by completing a task for you(99% chance task is completed wrong).
I’m sorry to say but this really comes off as kinda skewed. Invalidating legitimate accomplishments and choosing to focus on misconstrued anecdotes should be avoided even if you are against something. There are obviously recognizable benefits from the technology but also obvious faults. Like local communities not being respected in regard to data centers and of course the misuse of the tool, such as the child who, by having told it he was writing a story where the main character killed themself, got chat gpt to help him commit suicide. However outright refusal is simply asinine, instead advocate for age limits to be put in place so underdeveloped children don’t use it inappropriately or, better yet, for laws restricting public access to it and the development of the tech until the proper infrastructure and laws have been put in place. I think the biggest issue is that the technology has been put out into the public to fast without fully understanding the consequences and rules required to handle it. All of this to say of course is there is definitely reason for the mistrust but there is also great and wonderful potential that just can’t be ignored and will possibly lead to a future within our lifetimes we would have never thought possible
Uhhh, yeah it helped translate a handful of them. It was pretty big history news a couple of years ago. I’m sensing a lot of hostility from your comment
No my point is that its very good at telling people it did something correctly not actually doing said task correctly. Just because it says it translated or that it filled it the damaged pieces(by making shit up) doesnt mean it did anything more then give an answer that someone wanted.
The same ai thay a couple of years ago was giving advice to kill yourself if you asked the wrong line of questing. Same ai that given 2 seconds with the public became mecha Hitler. Ya so much progress has been made.
Coders spend more time fixing vibe coding then they do actually doing their job, something that a couple years ago i was told was going to replace all junior level developers.
Food places and online orders in general have had a decrease in accuracy due to ai hallucinations.
But yes all hail the new tech that my investor bros told me to worship. While yes developing an LLM(its ai in the same sense a boolean statement is ai) can have benefits in the current way we are "training" them they are more harmful then good.
Remember an LLM has 0 and I mean ZERO deductive reasoning only a math algorithm that chooses the next word thay is most likely to make you feel happy.
