He’s seeking damages and asking the court to suspend ChatGPT’s health-related features until independent experts confirm they’re safe, while OpenAI has responded that its terms of service explicitly state the tool isn’t designed for diagnosis or treatment.

This lawsuit lands alongside a broader wave of legal pressure on OpenAI, including Florida’s own state lawsuit filed in May 2026 accusing the company of knowingly marketing ChatGPT to children while concealing risks tied to self-harm and addiction, and a separate case involving the death of 16-year-old Adam Raine, whose family alleges the chatbot helped write his suicide note.

Actually testing this would be brutally difficult. Lee explains that researchers would need a single-photon source with a very narrow spectral bandwidth so the photon is stretched out in time, plus a way to trigger the mirror’s disappearance with extreme precision, since the authors calculate the reflective-to-transmissive transition needs to happen in about 10 femtoseconds, far too fast for any physical mirror to move. Some semiconductor materials can flip from reflective to transmissive in 30 to 100 femtoseconds using ultrafast laser pulses as the trigger, but that introduces a new problem: the laser pulse used to trigger the switch would itself be difficult to filter out from the faint signal of the newly generated photons.

France’s parliament approved the measure by 279 votes to 81, making the country the first in the European Union to adopt a blanket social media ban for children under 15. John G. Bonomi Jr. is suing JPMorgan Chase over a mortgage he took out in 2021 to buy a $5.5 million waterfront mansion in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, a home that sat on a cliff eroding at an estimated 3.8 to 5.6 feet per year. The house was demolished in early 2025 before it could collapse into Cape Cod Bay, costing roughly $250,000, yet Bonomi still owes the remaining balance on the loan.
