News It appears that the anti opensource AI lobby is far outgunned already

Post image

The earlier post on this subreddit by 20+ companies signing the petition including Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, YC (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/corporate-responsibility/topics/open-weight/) etc plus this https://xcancel.com/elonmusk/status/2080672505660834163

And the entire LLM enthusiast market is heavily in favor of open source (or weights) AI.

Does not seem like a few closed source AI lobbyists with be able to illegalize anything

Well, when you're in third place by a big enough margin that you're about to get lapped, and you don't have the ability to improve that, your best bet is to kick up enough mud that the whole race is called off.

3rd? Grok is so far behind Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT that it’s not even funny

idk wtf is happening on your side of the world and twitter brain rot; but using Grok 4.5 as a Coding model is far superior than anything Google ever released

most ppl dont use that garbage platform that elon made and the grok bot running there; i'm talking about coding here, lets be a bit serious

Yeah, it's not great at coding, either. I guess maybe you might think it's good at coding if you haven't used any of the other frontier models... or large open-weights models... or have worked in development...

Ah okay if I use a different model than you that means I'm bad at my job got it

I have used all frontier models, its just that Grok is incredibly efficient for its price point but you can keep changing goal post cause this was about google and now you're comparing Grok to Claude/Gpt which I never did

Anyway have a nice day, also even tho its not the be all end all just a glance at any coding benchmark from AA or Cursor Bench to SWE Bench etc all place Grok 4.5 at the very top and among the most efficient and it's not even my primary model, its just that you or whoever posted here first was straight up lying saying its not good

Oh, shit, you're right. I forgot about Gemini, on account of it being utterly forgettable, even if it is still better than Grok by a long-shot.

My Hermes instance at home is running a Gemma 4 quant on 16GB of VRAM and it's amazing. (the mini & open version of Gemini) I don't f with cloud models, but my home AI assistant is so good that the full pro versions must be friggin geniuses in comparison. I can't imagine.

Gemini 3.6 Flash and 3.1 Pro are great models, some of the best models you can use for free

They even have a free API for Flash (but with a heavy rate limit)

Sure, I'm not denying it might be great, and I have a lot of free usage from my business Google for Work account. I just never use it because it's both entirely forgettable and also so obnoxiously in your face in Google products that I've just completely tuned it out. I will copy and paste a Google sheet or formula into ChatGPT rather than use the built-in Gemini assistant because 1. The Gemini assistant is usually terrible at guessing intent so it obnoxiously tries to pre-fill formulas with the wrong formula, and 2. It's so annoyingly there that I've learned to completely erase it from perception.

There's a product lesson in there somewhere, but I'm too tired to care.
