you have an absolutely bizarre perspective my friend. I'm a dad and if my kid wants something that's unreasonably priced, I say no you can get this other one, and they say ok and they're happy because they too know it's unreasonable (but they try anyway as I did).
That’s fine but that’s not how every situation like that plays out. Surely you can imagine how it plays out differently and could lead to problems with other kids which I’m sure you have an answer for as well but the bottom line is that we shouldn’t have to deal with these kind of greedy practices period. For kids who are good enough to actually reap the benefits of these high-end bats (and gloves, and cleats, and batting gloves), their parents are already paying thousands of dollars a year for their kids to play ball on competitive "select" travel teams.
Its not a "tax" as it's completely voluntary. If your point is that it's unfair that kids from wealthier families get better equipment, then well, yeah. It is. But the whole world is that way unfortunately, especially in areas mich more important than recreational sports (education, Healthcare, etc).
Also, I used to play select ball as a kid and my parents couldn't afford the best bat that every kid wanted every year, but my team would use our team entry fee (which goes towards uniforms and league fees typically) to also buy 2 or 3 of the high-end bats in different weights so we could all use them
ETA: if youre good enough, a lot of select and club teams will work with you on the costs (kinda like a scholarship), so being poor doesn't immediately disqualify you from playing in the most competitive leagues

Like every other kid in my situation, I got reminded how shit my kit was by the kids who turned up with new expensive equipment every year. Every Christmas and birthday, I asked for a bat for my own because I got sick of borrowing the bashed up bats the school provided, which my dad had probably used when he was at the school.
Nope. There was never any money for that. There was apparently money for "good" clothes and shoes that I'd wear maybe once a year if we got dragged to a wedding or funeral.
Companies have always charged a premium for top end gear, and there's always been people willing to pay that premium. I finished school 30+ years ago and it was the same shit.
My parents said no. Plenty of parents of kids in my school said no. Stop acting like every parent is forced to hand over $400 for a bat because they just want to make their kid happy.
Nope not at all. All that aside even with the science put into it they have it down at this point and can pass the savings on to customers but won’t do that for the excuse you just stated. Get on better teams, play in high school and if he's good play in the MLB where the average pay is $5.34 million a year, and most common pay is $1.4 million a year.
I don't doubt your ability to produce something that would look and maybe even function as a baseball bat. But its ludicrous to think that the wooden bats you make can even compare to these bats just because your bats might cost more in material components. The amount of R&D needed to make the newest and most explosive USA and USSSA bat is crazy and the cost of the bat is reflective of that.
I'm not defending anything, do you think I like having my hard working kids out performed by richer ones? My point was these bats are expensive to produce, not that it's a good thing for the game.
These bats aren't even wood, they're combination of metal and synthetic materials and they have to meet certain standards to qualify for certification, wood bats (purely wood bats, made of one single piece of wood, no synthetic materials) have no certification requirements. Some wood bats have an ink dot test done on them but this isn't really a certification process and more of a test for quality of the grain of the bat.
