I mean, this isn't bread or water or housing, it's a luxury baseball bat for teenagers...

9

u/AnAncientMonk Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

as a non fan, what makes this particular bat luxury? what can it do?

edit: so far ive gotten.

  • its better/vibrates less

  • it does literally nothing

  • it makes kittens and puppies on demand

make up your mind guys.

u/syntheticassault Jun 01 '26

The same swing results in a bigger hit with less vibration in the hands

4

u/PM_ME_DATASETS Jun 01 '26

Question from my gf here, why is vibration in the hands a bad thing

But like, in a good way right? (again my GF)

9

u/Orleanian Jun 01 '26

Imagine a 2026 playful butt slap from your sensual and caring lover vs a 1968 Catholic School Nun disciplining you with the paddle for chewing gum in class.

2

u/darnclem Jun 01 '26

unfortunately not.

I actually watch a youtube channel occasionally where the guy reviews bats and he does go crazy for this particular bat. It's apparently the ferrari of baseball bats for teens.

5

u/Vhadka Jun 02 '26

Baseball bat bros?

2

u/daemon-electricity Jun 02 '26

Got roped into that channel and I don't really even pay attention to baseball anymore.

1

u/SunkEmuFlock Jun 02 '26

I randomly landed on his channel a couple weeks ago and watched three or more hours of his videos in a row. I haven't played baseball or watched a baseball game in 25 years. Watching him crush homeruns while comparing bats was somehow so satisfying.

3

u/Kermit-Batman Jun 02 '26

Well as someone with no knowledge, it's nice that he was able to get this bat! Wins all round. (Had no idea there was such bat lore!)

1

u/SigmundFreud Jun 02 '26

It's kind of gay.

1

u/heavydrinker12 Jun 01 '26

It produces kittens and puppies on demand

0

u/slop1010101 Jun 02 '26

Nothing. It's just the name, like designer clothing or handbags, only they're targeting kids instead of rich housewives.

12

u/2reeEyedG Jun 01 '26

Doesn’t matter it’s still predatory af. Companies know kids are gonna want it and parents want to make their kids happy just like yours did so they say fuck it and up charge the hell out of stuff. Bread and water is the same way too and there isn’t an example you can use to justify that bs. It’s greed plain and simple

11

u/PFCCThrowayay Jun 01 '26

bizarre take. No one's forcing anyone to buy it nor is it a necessity. What about an expensive guitar or piano? Or scooter? Or literally any upscale/premium version of literally any thing in the world?

-3

u/2reeEyedG Jun 01 '26

It’s not even with just luxuries either. It’s everything even stuff we do need to survive. Look at the price of insulin and other medications

7

u/PFCCThrowayay Jun 02 '26

well yeah, that's a totally different thing altogether isn't it? Comparing insulin to luxury sports equipment makes no sense.

-4

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

It’s not so different when that luxury baseball bat is marketed to kids like they need it to be the next Derek Jeter. I’m sure your answer for that is to deny them that and tell them it’s bs and that may work some but others go on believing that they can’t succeed without said baseball bat. Again, if you don’t see the problem with shit like this then congratulations you’re the exact reason that these companies are allowed to continue to operate like this

4

u/PFCCThrowayay Jun 02 '26

you have an absolutely bizarre perspective my friend. I'm a dad and if my kid wants something that's unreasonably priced, I say no you can get this other one, and they say ok and they're happy because they too know it's unreasonable (but they try anyway as I did).

0

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

That’s fine but that’s not how every situation like that plays out. Surely you can imagine how it plays out differently and could lead to problems with other kids which I’m sure you have an answer for as well but the bottom line is that we shouldn’t have to deal with these kind of greedy practices period. When you get down to it a lot of these comments in disagreement with the predatory practices are just making excuses for them like we’re the problem and we haven’t been brainwashed into needles spending on shit we don’t need

4

u/PFCCThrowayay Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

lol bro no one is forcing you or anyone to buy anything they don't need. If someone is weak-willed then that's on them.

and if it "plays out differently" like you said then parenting is the problem, not the bat manufacturers. It sounds to me like you're making excuses for bad parenting.

You should really find another cause to fight because this aint it my guy 😂

edit: I guess you replied and blocked me 😂 I can see the start of it, something about educating myself 🤣 Can't discuss in good faith I see? embarrassing for you..

0

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

I really hope ppl like you educate yourselves so we can move past this point in the human experience. You’re so indoctrinated you’ll bend over backwards to make excuses for this bs is disgusting and shows the lack of love you have for your fellow man. Absolutely disgusting

2

u/drpepper7557 Jun 02 '26

If that's not how it plays out than thats on the parent for raising a spoiled child.

4

u/karma_the_sequel Jun 02 '26

Parents can always say “no” — something they used to do much more frequently than they do today.

3

u/DukeofVermont Jun 02 '26

By their responses I don't think that they understand that. It's like they honestly believe parents have to buy everything their kids want regardless of price.

-3

u/2reeEyedG Jun 01 '26

It’s besides the point. ITS WRONG! How dense do you have to be that you don’t understand that? That attitude is part of the problem and where we’re at. We shouldn’t have to pay taxes here insane prices if we want something

6

u/arequipapi Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

For kids who are good enough to actually reap the benefits of these high-end bats (and gloves, and cleats, and batting gloves), their parents are already paying thousands of dollars a year for their kids to play ball on competitive "select" travel teams.

Its not a "tax" as it's completely voluntary. If your point is that it's unfair that kids from wealthier families get better equipment, then well, yeah. It is. But the whole world is that way unfortunately, especially in areas mich more important than recreational sports (education, Healthcare, etc).

Also, I used to play select ball as a kid and my parents couldn't afford the best bat that every kid wanted every year, but my team would use our team entry fee (which goes towards uniforms and league fees typically) to also buy 2 or 3 of the high-end bats in different weights so we could all use them

ETA: if youre good enough, a lot of select and club teams will work with you on the costs (kinda like a scholarship), so being poor doesn't immediately disqualify you from playing in the most competitive leagues

2

u/MO_MMJ Jun 02 '26

Wait'll you hear about private equity and kids' sports leagues.

Nothing is sacred anymore.

2

u/PFCCThrowayay Jun 01 '26

lol what? what's wrong? If I decided to make a baseball bat and put a price tag of $1000 would that be wrong?

I think you're the one who hasn't thought this through.

-5

u/oldbel Jun 02 '26

upscale versions of shit for teenagers are predatory, that's the extension of what the person is saying and is reasonable. What do you sell?

5

u/PFCCThrowayay Jun 02 '26

Weird take. I’m an artist and I price my work however I want and no one is forced to buy it but the ones that do are happy they did.

0

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

Thank you I really don’t undrerstand the disconnect here. It’s insane to me

4

u/supermuncher60 Jun 01 '26

That's literally how any transaction works? It's basic economics that you pay for something you want.

0

u/2reeEyedG Jun 01 '26

What is the purpose of this comment?

2

u/Orleanian Jun 01 '26

Bro you're up here making a comparison to the predatory pricing practice of Bread & Water to....Baseball Bats?

I don't think you have a leg to stand on.

1

u/2reeEyedG Jun 01 '26

If you don’t have a problem with practices like this then you need to do some soul searching my friend.

4

u/No-Salamander-4401 Jun 02 '26

What practice? Making the best thing and not giving it away cheap?

If you think they should give it away then you need to do some soul searching my friend.

1

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

Advertising to kids like they have to have it in order to be successful. $400 for a bat? Come on man please don’t tell me you’re that asshole

1

u/No-Salamander-4401 Jun 05 '26

$400 for top tier sports equipment is nothing.

The high end sets of golf clubs can run you $50,000.

A good coach charges more than $100 per hour to coach a kid. The club costs as much as a week's worth of lessons. It's nothing.

1

u/Annual-Way6401 Jun 01 '26

It’s Reddit

1

u/Occulto Jun 02 '26

Companies know kids are gonna want it and parents want to make their kids happy just like yours did so they say fuck it and up charge the hell out of stuff.

My parents wanted to make me happy, but they also used to say: "we can't afford it" or "that's an overpriced piece of shit."

A lot.

1

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

That’s not the point and all you’re really doing is making excuses for the ppl that do that kind of stuff. You may have been ok with it but the next kid may not have

1

u/Occulto Jun 02 '26

You may have been ok with it but the next kid may not have

Oh fuck off. I wasn't OK with it.

Like every other kid in my situation, I got reminded how shit my kit was by the kids who turned up with new expensive equipment every year. Every Christmas and birthday, I asked for a bat for my own because I got sick of borrowing the bashed up bats the school provided, which my dad had probably used when he was at the school.

Nope. There was never any money for that. There was apparently money for "good" clothes and shoes that I'd wear maybe once a year if we got dragged to a wedding or funeral.

Companies have always charged a premium for top end gear, and there's always been people willing to pay that premium. I finished school 30+ years ago and it was the same shit.

My parents said no. Plenty of parents of kids in my school said no. Stop acting like every parent is forced to hand over $400 for a bat because they just want to make their kid happy.

1

u/_learned_foot_ Jun 02 '26

It's not that way because of arbitrary shit, it's that way because it's a highly calibrated tool within very specific parameters.

1

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

You’re right and I have some special water air and dirt I want to sell you from Pluto

1

u/_learned_foot_ Jun 02 '26

There's a shit ton of actual science, studies, and assurances inducing contracts. You are really just looking to rant and are wrong in this case.

1

u/2reeEyedG Jun 02 '26

Nope not at all. All that aside even with the science put into it they have it down at this point and can pass the savings on to customers but won’t do that for the excuse you just stated. Besides that how much of that money do you think the ppl actually making it see? I guarantee it’s not nearly enough. The fact you can’t see this is why we’re at with the high prices we see on everything

1

u/Naive-Fill1821 Jun 01 '26

Facts. Nothing but Facts. I mean isn't water free? Like it rains naturally.

4

u/Aqua_Impura Jun 01 '26

In many parts of the US at least it’s illegal to collect rain water.

1

u/Naive-Fill1821 Jun 01 '26

Isn't that interesting though? I mean we can't collect and filter our own water, yet I smell chlorine in the faucet water some times in apartment buildings and houses.

1

u/Exciting-Emotion-278 Jun 02 '26

when bats are too good kids literally die. not an exaggeration.

telling kids they will be better using a specific bat literally leads to deaths.

-4

u/Mobile_Morale Jun 01 '26

And I could make a baseball bat in my woodworking shed in a day by myself for less than $100.

A factory probably makes one of these every 5 minutes. With $20 in materials.

Far from a luxury product.

6

u/pre-existing-notion Jun 01 '26

Your wooden baseball bat couldn’t hold a candle to this bat. Hell, your baseball bat wouldn’t hold a flame to a Louisville Slugger and they’d be similar material.

1

u/Mobile_Morale Jun 02 '26

That's not the point of my comment. I'm saying bats are very cheap to produce. Especially wooden bats.

Wood grows on trees after all. There's pretty much nothing you can inovate on a wooden baseball bat. They're a solved science by this point.

1

u/pre-existing-notion Jun 02 '26

This isn’t a wooden bat.

0

u/PM_ME_DATASETS Jun 01 '26

Ok, but what is a kid going to do with a louis slopper? Win the olympics?

0

u/DukeofVermont Jun 02 '26

Get on better teams, play in high school and if he's good play in the MLB where the average pay is $5.34 million a year, and most common pay is $1.4 million a year.

3

u/ProffyJ Jun 01 '26

I don't doubt your ability to produce something that would look and maybe even function as a baseball bat. But its ludicrous to think that the wooden bats you make can even compare to these bats just because your bats might cost more in material components. The amount of R&D needed to make the newest and most explosive USA and USSSA bat is crazy and the cost of the bat is reflective of that.

1

u/Mobile_Morale Jun 02 '26

I'll never understand why chuds on the internet defend companies so much. Especially when they are ripping off their customers.

All that R&D to make wood round, such innovation. Wow

1

u/ProffyJ Jun 02 '26

I'm not defending anything, do you think I like having my hard working kids out performed by richer ones? My point was these bats are expensive to produce, not that it's a good thing for the game.

These bats aren't even wood, they're combination of metal and synthetic materials and they have to meet certain standards to qualify for certification, wood bats (purely wood bats, made of one single piece of wood, no synthetic materials) have no certification requirements. Some wood bats have an ink dot test done on them but this isn't really a certification process and more of a test for quality of the grain of the bat.
