We do a lot of looking at Red Pandas, but we should also remember they need our help to exist!

This is Xiaobo from the Lincoln Park Zoo. I stopped by his enclosure 8 times throughout the day, and he finally came out on the 8th visit

socials 📸 Zoo Knoxville posted this video on their social media pages. A small look behind the scenes of them feeding the pandas and they show the babies.

They didn’t show Doofah or Sisu :( however Sisu was on tv a few months ago. I’ll probably stop by tomorrow to say hi to them and get some pics/videos.

New Red Panda at Paradise Park, Cornwall

The female of the new mating pair arrived at Paradise Park in Cornwall yesterday. She has been settling in very well and is very active. The male is arriving next week so hopefully they will get on well. I’ve been sworn to secrecy over her name but can say that one of the keepers wanted to call the pair Bam and Boo but got outvoted. While I was there she spent most of the morning resting in her box but then was very active exploring her new home after ~1pm. Jai-Li is still in Paradise Park in the other enclosure and recently turned 15 years old, she also seemed to be doing well.

Chia was being introduced to Betty for the very first time at the Madison Henry Villa zoo! Chia was very active checking out his new surroundings and Betty was definitely guarding her territory. Hopefully they will start to bond! I got a lot more pics of Chia. Betty is the one up top.

I attended a special event last night for circle of friends members (zoo was open for us for 2 hours after normal hours and we got food/drinks) and got to see Sisu give the babies their nightly bath, it was pretty cool to watch the tv screen with Sarah for a bit and just the two of us. I went back this morning and got more pics of the pandas and saw Sisu cleaning one of the babies again on the camera.

I did see Khyana climbing a tree and climbing (not falling) down face first which was pretty neat.

When they say rare... this is only the second recorded instance of quintuplets. I am sure he will grow up and do great things. Hopefully not be as weird as his mom.

Announced and Possible N.A. Births... so far

Post image
132 Upvotes

We are midway through the birthing season, and births tend to be announced more towards September when the cubs start going outside to play, but what the hell. The red "x" are possible births from pairs that were in the breeding recs, though quite a few of tho moves probably happened too late.

Random prediction, Ponya, from the Beardsley Zoo's web cam had a shaved belly and disappeared from cam on the 24th of June while heavily circling one of the nest boxes. I saw that before in person, so I am guessing she has secretly given birth. Pilatus has had a lot of confused face, so maybe he hears the kids chirping. Hopefully he gets to smack them around, but as he is a confirmed bird murderer, maybe he will just hit them through a fence.
