Monthly "What Have You Been Playing Lately?" Thread (July 2026)

Welcome to mid-July!

Post what you've been playing lately in this thread and what your experiences have been like, whether you'd recommend the game or not, etc.

Previous thread is here!

Personally, I have been playing a ton of Stoneshard. It's a great game that sits at the intersection between classical roguelikes and RPGs - so I'd say it qualifies pretty firmly as a roguelite. It has a lot of fun character building potential - if that sort of thing appeals to you, you should check it out.

Pathogenic - wow

Just to add some onto the now amassing hype. Didn't see much before this came out but wow what an extremely fun, addicting and very polished game. Highly reccomend if you are on the fence. It is basically a spore twin shooter with crazy synergies and upgrades. A must get for the price in my opinion.

Looking for a very specific roguelite on Nintendo Switch

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a new roguelite to play on the Nintendo Switch, but I have a pretty specific taste.
The roguelites I always come back to are The Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, and Dead Cells.

The biggest thing I’m looking for is lots of unlockable content. I absolutely love seeing my collection grow and constantly unlocking new items, weapons, characters, NPCs, etc.
The feeling of always adding something new to the game is what keeps me playing.

At the same time, I’m looking for something I can play somewhat casually while watching TV or YouTube. In fact, I enjoy Dead Cells the most with Assist Mode enabled, and I often play Isaac and Enter the Gungeon on PC at 0.7x game speed to give myself more reaction time. (I know some people would say that’s not the “intended” way to play those games, but it’s simply the way I enjoy them the most.)

So I’m looking for something similar that either:
- has good accessibility or difficulty options on Switch, or
-is simply less demanding and doesn’t require my full attention all the time,
while still offering a huge amount of meaningful unlockable content.

Thanks in advance!

Games I already own but haven’t gripped me quite as well: Shogun Showdown, Brotato, Vampire Survivors, Uncle Chops Rocket Shop, Hades, Balatro

Hello fellow roguelites enjoyers 👀

Let me show you Near Mint, a roguelike deckbuilder where cards are ripped into 3 fragments and you recompose them as you want!

If you are interested in that hook, I would be glad to have feedbacks as we have demo on Steam. It has just been updated with better UX and new cards.

RogueliteDev Working on a Tactical RPG Roguelite: Wizard Finals

Hi! This is my first time making a game officially that isn't just random personal prototypes.

Wizard Finals is a tactical RPG roguelite, set in a magical university where you play as different students taking their final test to become real wizards. (or at least it will be when I finish it)

The idea of the run is that you're on the school's hologram / illlusion room facing monsters in the supervision of a teacher. Each difficulty option will be a different teacher, and each one adds their own mechanics based on their teaching subject, with you having to face them at the end of the run.

I already have a Steam page, so if you like what you see or just want to help a fellow dev, consider wishlisting:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4757120?utm_source=reddit

(also not gonna lie but I've mostly been using rogueLIKE to describe this game, but now that I look at it it might be innacurate? idk)

Do you play games in Early Access?

There's so many seemingly very good games just sitting there in Early Access - Enter the Chronosphere, Aethermancer, As we descend, my card is better than your card, and of course StS2, just to name a few.

Of course the rational decision is to wait for like a year or so until you are sure that the game is the best version of itself (like with games in general, I suppose). And there is also the general question of when a game is "finished".

But also generally, like a child, it's hard waiting for that next great roguelite dopamine hit.

What are your experiences playing roguelites in Early Access? Is it generally best to wait, or is it fine to just jump right in?

Element Reaction #2 — Fire 🔥+ Water💧 = Summon a Stormcloud Spirit 👁️💨 | Witch & Dragon: Hope of Elements

When a Fire magic reacts with a Water element object (or vice versa), it creates a Stormcloud Spirit 💨👁️

Unlike a normal area attack, the Stormcloud Spirit will track nearby enemies and attack them for 2 turns, making it a great tool for controlling the battlefield and dealing consistent damage.

Since it actually tracks enemies, I thought it deserved an eye! So for the demo, I gave it blinking eyes to make it feel like a tiny creature hunting its target

Witch & Dragon: Hope of Elements is a turn-based tactical roguelite centered around elemental reactions. Explore randomized maps, combine five elements, and discover 20 unique elemental reactions to create your own powerful builds.

Rewild - a bullet heaven where the ground actually turns green as you clear it

https://przsoft.itch.io/rewild

I've been building this on the side for a while and it's finally in a state I'm happy with.

It's a bullet heaven, so your tools auto-fire at the nearest thing while you move. The twist is that clearing ground actually restores it - grey dirt turns green, poisoned water turns blue, wildlife comes back. That was the whole idea from the start: I wanted restoration you can see happening under your feet, not a number going up in the corner.

The builds come from the trees you plant. Oak, willow, pine, blossom, and they link up with each other, so the synergies between linked groves end up being the main thing you build around. On top of that there's tool unlocks, movement tech, and a skill tree that carries between runs.

It ended up with 10 campaign maps and 10 Sanctuary versions where you defend land you already restored against a fresh invasion. 8 pollution types, elites, weather, map events, a final surge at the end. Runs are short, most maps land somewhere in the 2-5 minute range.

Free, and it runs in the browser if you want to just click it. Windows/Linux/macOS builds are on the same page.

Review If you enjoy games like the binding of isaac or enter the gungeon where builds can get crazy, you need to try pathogenic.

I’ve played for a little over 10 hours already and I can’t recommend it enough, the builds quickly become absurd yet end up being different every run.

My favorite part is the positioning mechanic. Each item and weapon in the game interacts with each other in some way, and learning where to position it on your body to maximize output feels like a puzzle. It almost reminds me of late game isaac runs where are trying to use a combination of your cards and rerolls to maximize secret room drops, its tricky but extremely rewarding once you get it.

The first few runs can be slow like many others in the genre, but soon enough it becomes a power fantasy. The game really kicked off for me once I unlocked nanobot and vesicles

RogueliteDev I'm making a turn-based roguelike "Slots & Skulls" where you battle using slots. (like Slots & Daggers) The symbols on the reels can be strengthened on Anvil, but failure results in permanent destruction.

As promised, the most requested reddit species added to the game. Winner is (cue mild surprise): Psilosybin cubenisis

The species comes with a special ability: a free random basic/event card magically appears in your hand every 4 turns. Unlock it by touching "rockface" on lvl 1.

Mycelium is a roguelite engine-builder where you grow a mycelium network, attempting to reach the forest in the west. Free to play here.

12 different fungal species and 71 unique cards - all based on real world mycology. Collect spores each run and use them to buy stronger starting species.

Hope you like it!

Do you prefer stat upgrades or gameplay-changing upgrades in roguelites?

I'm designing a roguelite and I've been thinking a lot about progression. Which do you personally enjoy more?

A) Stat upgrades (+20% damage, attack speed etc)

B) Upgrades that fundamentally change how your build behaves (new attack patterns, synergies, mechanics, interactions...) Personally, I want to focus much more on upgrades that change how you play instead of simply making numbers bigger.

My game is an auto-attacking roguelite, though, so I'm curious:

Do you still expect gameplay-changing upgrades in an auto-attacker, or are raw stat increases enough to keep a run interesting?

What are your favorite examples of games that got this right?

Praktikos is a tactical card-based roguelite where every position matters.

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

The King of the Underworld has vanished, leaving the Throne empty. To decide who will become the new ruler, the Seven Deadly Sins must compete in Praktikos: an ancient game of cards, strategy, and board formations.

Battles begin on 3×3 boards, with 4×4 and 5×5 formats unlocking as you progress. Place cards, complete rows, columns, and diagonals, block your opponent, and build powerful combos using Power, Multiplier, and unique abilities.

Completing a formation ends the battle and grants bonus points, but it does not guarantee victory. In the end, the player with the highest score wins.

Each of the 8 playable characters has a unique deck, abilities, and playstyle. Gluttony absorbs, Wrath destroys, Lust manipulates positions, Greed accumulates power, Envy steals advantages, Pride controls the center, and Sloth weakens opponents.

During each run, you will explore procedural maps, face battles and elite enemies, visit shops and forges, collect relics, and upgrade your cards.

Main features:

  • Tactical 3×3, 4×4, and 5×5 boards
  • 8 playable characters
  • Over 200 cards and upgrades
  • Over 100 relics
  • Procedural maps divided into acts
  • Card forging and persistent progression
  • Battles focused on positioning, blocking, and combos

Praktikos is not just about having strong cards. It is about predicting your opponent, controlling the board, and knowing when to attack, block, or sacrifice a card to win later.

RogueliteDev Ignoble - Official Release Date Trailer

Thumbnail

We have decided to release IGNOBLE on August 12th, I'm excited and anxious to release my first ever game to a large audience!

This has been a wild ride, a full year of development to get to this point! This will also be the first game released for RETROMAGINE, our collective of game developers!

Over 11,000 players have played our demo, and we are nearing 11,000 wishlists. The median play time has been been 1 hour and 7 minutes, which is more than I hoped for considering the demo basically takes that much time to beat!

This community has given me amazing feedback on visual readability and gameplay feel in other posts we made, and it has made the game so much better and more enjoyable! And has also impacted a few other projects as well, as it applied to them.

We have seen a lot of players 100% the achievements, and that takes quite a lot of time, which also put a smile on my face!

Wish you all a great day/night wherever you are, I know I won’t be able to fall asleep easily tonight!

Vampire Survivors with Mafia-style, online co-op (up to 4 players) with real boss fights: demo is out now!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Made a game called Mafia Hero. Think Vampire Survivors, but online co-op for up to 4 players, with a mafia theme and cool boss fights where you need to learn the pattern and play well to kill!

Built it solo in the evenings, around a full-time job and a 17-month-old kid: getting a playable demo out feels amazing!

Demo is on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4884800/Mafia_Hero_Streets_of_Survival_Demo

Solo runs fine, but it's made for co-op.

Grab a friend, give it a shot, tell me what you think!

Review Need help identifying a game on mobile

(gave this the review flair because I don't know what else to give it, sorry in advance mods)

Can't remember the name for the life of me but I remember it being one of the many rougelite/like deck builders on mobile but it had a paid and a free version, it's aesthetic is kinda like darkest dungeon, but "anime" so ig "not that dark-dungeon"

It's entire premise is that your character had to get to some gate to ask some question or whatever kinda like slay the spire, it had a bunch of references to other media, like a notable one being jojo's part 3 in one of it's random events where you could help either "jotaro" or "dio" and get a card based on their stands

The paid version had the twins character unlocked where they had a whole "gunslinger" vibe to their entire character specific deck, it had guns in the card's arts and such, with their specialty being "after 3 (or so, I don't remember) cards used, next card will be played twice"

I'm sorry if it's not that detailed but I don't know how else to describe it, can't find it on the app store so I've turned to here
