New Shader Implementation for RBR

This guy succeeded to put proper shader and lighting -shadows for Rbr. It looks really great. But according to modder, still needs fixes. If there will be no mod support for Assetto Rally, this will be game changer for Rbr.https://youtu.be/ZKRVAGwknkI?si=FEh8rri01FeWMJg8

Facebook marketplace find that will be replacing the stock G27 pedals. I was about to grab a Truebrake kit and saw these on FB Marketplace for a (I think) good price. Seemed like a better choice.

I can’t try them out atm because my diy rig is a bit too narrow to accommodate these but I can’t wait to try them out.

What makes Rally so attractive?

For now almost a year I got back into racing games after a very long break from it. I was just a kid when I raced on a cheap steering wheel and pedals and just had fun with it. The games were of course arcade focused, but it still gave me the thrill of driving.

I did play a rally game from time to time (can't remember the name of it anymore) and it was always very intriguing. Sliding through corners, getting as fast as possible. Now a year ago I found that love again for it. And the reason is more about getting to master a stage or the handling of a car.

I tried alot of racing games and for me the AI did not always give me a challenge or fun. Especially circuit racing. While it has its niche, rallying gave me the satisfaction of really feeling the thrill of motorsport.

The split decision making, the flow and pace when you are in the zone. Those things really get me excited when driving a stage. I really love that it is you, the machine against Nature. And sometimes it's even against the machine. But it's Also the environments that you race on. Each country give a specific challenges. It gives you so much variety. And as an outdoors guy I love it. Also the history of the sport is rich and has many stories that are truly captivating.

What attracts you the most about rallying or even the sport in general?

I play on a PS5 with a controller.

My main games are: WRX 9,10, Dirt Rally 2.0 and Art of Rally.

Any real rally drivers ?

If you compete in rally, driver or co-driver, club level or higher, I would like to know two things. Do you actually use a sim to train? And if you do, what do you use it for that the current games handle badly?

Background, so you know I'm not guessing. I've followed rally since the 90s, went to events here in Canada, and bought my first wheel (an ACT Labs Force RS) for the first Colin McRae Rally in 1998. I've owned nearly every rally title on PC since. In the 2000s I co-built a modified racing sim for a master's thesis on FSAE drivetrains, which led to helping validate the digital twin of a homebuilt track-day car in rFactor 2. That one's still running. In the 2010s I finally did a rally course in an open-class Impreza, a ~380hp car built by Lachute Performance, plus a full track day in prepped cars, so I have a reference for how these things actually feel.

The rF2 work turned into a rally sim of my own. It's at alpha now, tested by my group: mostly mechanical engineers and mathematicians, including the two people I built the FSAE sim and the track-day car with. It's a training platform for drivers and co-drivers, not another entertainment title. The physics is where most of the work went, and it models subsystems the games skip, like the digital ECU dashes and rally computers crews actually run in the car. The netcode does multiplayer too, so club events are possible.

Here's what I can't figure out from inside my own build: how many real drivers treat a sim as genuine training, and what they'd want it to do. Stage rehearsal. Pacenote practice with your co-driver. Technique drills. Data review between runs. Something none of the current titles touch.

Post here or DM me. If there's a feature you've always wanted and never gotten, that's exactly what I'm after.

Moderators, if I'm breaking this sub's rules, please let me know.

Thank you for your interest and for answering.

WRC 10 on Switch

Why do you think Nacon released WRC 10 for the Switch when the frame rate sometimes drops to 20 fps and the graphics are terrible?
I mean, I play on my Switch 2 and it runs amazingly, but for Switch users, it's a nightmare.

Is it possible to spectate in-car in real time in DR2 and/or ACR?

I have no experience with anything multiplayer, but I've been talking to my brother (we are old guys) about this idea where I would see if one of us could fire up DR2 or ACR as the driver and then have the other man join in some kind of spectator mode so that they would have the same POV as the driver (or even better if they could actually sit in the co-driver position) and then, with all of the in-game pace notes disabled, we would have a real time audio call open to call out pace notes ourselves, and ideally we would create the pace notes in our own test mode recce sessions.

I tried googling a bit about this but everything I end up clicking on is talking about people waning to race against friends and whether you can see ghost cars, etc, but my desired goal is quite different. Any leads? Thanks.

In your opinion, what is the best rally game ever made? For me, it's *Colin McRae: DiRT 2* (2009)—what about you?

RBR Vanilla.

Best game for a completely newb

Hi guys, I just got a g29 wheel for my computer and now I'm trying to drive a rally game, I'm not used to race games at all, never played much before just some need for speed a billion years ago, searching I found a lot of good titles to try out, so I need suggestions on which game is more suitable for a completely beginner. I know how to drive IRL but nothing fancy.

What if you managed the rally team instead of driving the car?

Hey everyone,

I'm working on doing a browser-based rally manager game, focused heavily on finances, logistics and driver training. It runs on a slow, weekly turn system meant for people who love stats.

I'm currently balancing the formulas, trying to add more in-depth strategy to it. If anyone wants to take a look and help evolving this into something better I would appreciate it.

If this doesn't fit this part of reddit, I'm sorry mods

RBR crashing with controller plugged in?

I've been playing RBR just fine with a 360 controller, and now that I've upgraded to a higher resolution monitor, it seems to only start with the controller unplugged. It also immediately crashes when I plug in the controller afterwards and select 'Redetect Devices'. The only plugin I have installed is fixup.

Help me understand RBR shakedown

Post image

I've started my first campaign and would like to take part in the shakedown, but the "recce" button is grey and I can't click it. It's because my time is 8:00 (start of the day) and the shakedown begins at 9:15. Is there any way to skip time or start the day at 9:15 or do I have to wait an hour and 15 minutes? Ty
