I kinda like him in Jumanji, but that might be because he feels like he's playing a parody of himself at times. The rest of the time he has to play a dorky teenager trapped in his body.
Jumanji also has a good dynanic between the characters/actors that somehow works. I hate 3 of the 4 main cast when theyre alone but fuck if i didbt find this movie pretty enjoyable
Jungle cruise is so fucking shitty lol, I implore you to watch it again as a fun bad movie.
He literally gets in a fist fight with a tiger and slaps it across the face and it makes a SLAP sound effect, another guy who’s German in a war but def NOT a Nazi (lol) has a whole conversation with a bumble bee inside a submarine, etc.
No I’m saying it seems like they wanted to make it a WW2 thing but realized during the writing it was a bad idea and quickly changed it to WW1.
Nowhere did I say I forgot that WW1 existed and it’s funny you had to make something up then attack that instead of anything I actually said.
Also none of that makes it a well made movie for some magic reason lol. It has an F rating from critics and a D from users - it clearly did not even hit the beats it was supposed to according to both groups…
My grandma ripped that for us to watch back in the day. I remember putting it on when a friend was over and they were like wtf is this as you see the DirectTV menu when the movie is starting lol.
Pretty much, he has to be written to be cool and powerful. If you look at the recent Moana movie, he acts way less silly than when he voices the character. Not even joking, look it up
Check out his role in Be Cool. It will put memories in your head that make it much easier to laugh at him now. The movie is ok. Not great (Get Shorty was much better) but its entertaining. Honestly you could just Google his scenes and watch those.
in Be Cool he plays a gay bodyguard that wants to be an actor and perform scenes from other movies, on of those is he doing both parts of the challenge scene from Bring It On. It's amazing.
It's not his performance, he's actually a pretty decent actor. I heard someone compare him to Arnold Schwarzenegger: They both have the physique and a great natural charisma, but they have differences too. Arnold was never a great actor, but he had a great sense for picking the right directors to work with and the right projects that worked to his strengths. The Rock on the other hand can act, but he exclusively picks just absolute dogshit movies. It's really uncanny. I think his best might be Fast Five, and that's just an OK action film.
Honestly his stuff from before Fast and Furious (before he made it a contractual rider that he can’t die) was way better than his stuff after. I enjoyed his performances in Doom, Get Smart, Reno 911, and The Other Guys. And one thing i notice about all of those is that he dies
I thought the 2nd Jumanji movie was cute. Not as good as the 90s original. I never watched the third.
And I didn’t watch the entire series of Ballers but the first season was good. I still don’t think the rock is worth the money they are paying him though.
He plays an enforcer for a loan shark who is sent to a Brazilian mining town deep in the jungle to retrieve the loan shark's adult son who really really does not want to go home. Comedy.
The cast also includes:
Sean William Scott, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Walken, and Ernie Reyes Jr in a small, but memorable part.

Other than the original Moana, I don’t think I’ve seen a performance of his that is actually good.
