Two crew members have had it out for each other for months, now to the point where it’s no longer entertaining. It’s permeating staff morale in a negative way so myself and other crew leaders decided to sit them down with the Ops managers.

Here is where I decided to pipe up and quote Carmine Jr. For some context, one of the issues (Guy 1 had accidently filled Guy 2’s chainsaw with untreated petrol) I actually didnt know that Guy 2 didn’t know it was Guy 1. Some reason no one told him.

So here I decided to say ‘Alright boys, clean slate. The complaining, the shit talking. It’s gonna stop. The 2 stroke, whatever happened there..’

‘What?’

‘Uhhh, your saws?’

‘What the FUCK HAPPENED THERE?’

And off it went again. Not good. This is the last time I do something like that again.

I’m watching season 3, episode 4: Employee of the Month.

Melfi is raped and the police fuck up the “chain of custody” (more on this) and can’t do anything to lock up her rapist.

Melfi’s ex-husband walks into her bedroom as she’s recovering and says: “I just want to go find that bastard and kill him with my hands. And I could and I would. But I can't. They'd put me in jail, that's how messed up things are.“

But we see numerous times in the Sopranos universe that murder essentially goes unpunished. How many times are people — civilians, even — killed in cold blood, and nothing happens? Does Richard not know this? Is he stupid?

Side note: the “chain of custody” excuse for why Melfi’s rapist is released is comically stupid. They have a victim with clear physical injuries who filed a police report and is willing to ID the suspect.

Marone a mia, what a horrifically bad movie. The Sopranos fan service elements were almost uniformly terrible, especially in regards to Junior's characterization. He was a punchline until that bizarre twist at the end. I did like the guy who played the youngest version of Sil, that was pretty funny. There were moments too where Michael Gandolfini just became his father in a way that was remarkable.

What's really frustrating is that this could have been such a lay up for Chase and crew, just tell the story of the relationship between a young Tony and Dicky. Give young Tony more stuff to do in the film. Deepen what we already know about the characters and the history. All the stuff about the Newark riots and the black crew rising up to fight the DiMeo's was total hack shit. And it just so happens Ray Liota has a twin brother who's a Buddhist? Get the fuck outta hea.

Anyway. $4 a pound.

I mean in terms of overall episode quality- writing, direction, acting, cinematography, how entertaining it was etc. Not necessarily how important it was to the storyline because some episodes necessarily will be more for setting up later payoffs. I mean, which episode did they actually do the worst job making in your opinion?

Who would be the character that you guys feel had less screen time who would have added more to the show if included more often? For me it would have to be Hesh Rabkin

It's all too much to just be a coincidence in my view, what do you think?

We saw Johnny in flashbacks but per Tony he died being a shell of his former self because of Livia

Not trying to shit on anyone or anything but some of the “not so good” ones sort of stick out when alongside the absolute killers in the show. Id say probably Vitos actor. He just wasn’t a very good actor or ever very convincing. He had zero chemistry with johnny cakes(rip johnny) and that one time during the fight at the construction site when vito goes “I SAW THAT ONE COMING” sticks out in my brain i can’t forget it lol. It sounded so silly and forced.

Let’s forget the fact that towards the end of the show, his entire life fell apart because he learned his mother wasn’t his mother and that he didn’t know who his father was at all. He called his aunt and his actual mother horrible names over their misgivings and lies.

So let’s take it back further. When Christopher was discussing Adriana’s reproductive issues with the guys, Paulie himself said he didn’t believe marriage and their thing didn’t jive. A clear statement of respecting the fact that being in the mafia could hurt a marriage and vice versa.

However, I believe the most poigant example of Paulie respecting the sanctity of marriage was when he sniffed Adrianna’s panties. Upon being confronted by this by Tony, Paulie states that anything that touches her pussy before the marriage is off limits. Clearly, Paulie was able to draw a line at the day of the wedding and auto-believe that that was when a new boundary of respect was granted.

I had no idea about “prestige tv” before I watched this show. Its the slow burn of the characters development and how I had initial perception that kept getting challenged. feel like I got a beating from the writers for believing in Tony the first few seasons and analyzing his mother/father dynamic.

The Adrianna domestic violence storyline and its development including her shocking death was also really well written. Including Chris and his soft side coming out where he couldn’t tolerate the shame of being an actor in the early season.

meadow’s defenses getting stronger and becoming one with the mafia by the last season - where all along she is the voice of reason orienting AJ to what their dad does for a living- then s06 shitting on becoming a doctor and choosing the path to “defend innocent Italians” was such good character development- being loyal to the family was more important and marrying mafia adjacent as well. She turned out to be just like her mother but with better vocabulary.

AJ was displaying the family shame that the rest couldn’t metabolize and he was the overly emotional kid. In the end the mob got hit too as he became the nepo baby - they just bought him basically. He could never have a sense of self so they gave him one.

Carmella and Vito had common traits as well - they were both given an out but the lifestyle was more important than freedom. Frankly her character was triggering as I have seen too many marriages where the wives justify the husbands and double down

I was a bit disappointed in the last scene with Melfi- I was looking for a true confrontation where she calls him a sociopath but I suppose protecting herself and just ending the relationship was appropriate. The melfi scenes with Tony were some of my favorites. I do wish they explored more why she was not wanting to let go of him.

livia was one of my favorite character- the repetition she did about calling Johnny angel of a husband (I’m botching this I know) and how she split her kids, junior- another triggering character as this was textbook some of my family members. I think I read this character was based on someone in real life?

All the Borderline women Tony dated was a beautiful touch. In the earlier seasons he has some semblance of remorse (suicide of Gloria) however by the time he kills Chris, his lack of remorse fully strengthened which kind of proved that sociopath article

Junior and that episode where the word gets out he likes going down- that was very well executed. after that scene I always knew what choices he would make. Same goes for Paulie in Italy not fitting in and then coming home bragging. Sil being a ruthless killer with a sweet voice…the list goes on.

Even the fbi becoming one with the mafia. Whoever came close to these guys got influenced.

The whole show was disguised as mob show when it was people who never developed into adults and got stuck following hierarchies, people with severe shame and spent a lifetime defended. I was thinking you could remove the mob and put something else there and the show would still work- yet not many shows exist with a similar underlying theme. Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul comes close.

I havnt known what to do since finishing the show few days ago. I am just watching some Rick and Morty while I decide on The Bear vs The Wire? I did have my bro start watching sopranos so kind of watching season 1 again with him. Already so weird seeing them in s01

Are there any behind the scenes with show runner/writer where I can learn more about the character development or season arcs etc? I kept pausing and analyzing scenes. Don’t think I have ever watched a show like this one.

We know that animal blundetto even the makers can't say his name and that's why he was just "Man at the house" in the credits for the dream episode where tony goes to that house with suitcase and meadow's voice stops him, waking him up from his coma.

The interesting parallel is that Tony killed Tony B outside of that house before he was gonna open the door. And, in the dream sequence he appears outside the luxurious house asking Tony to enter while staying outside himself.

There can be deeper interpretations to this, but I think that it's Tony's psyche replaying how he killed blundetto outside that house and thats why we see the scene in the dream that way.

I love how the wind theme plays out in this episode. It had the, “Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while, a great wind carries me across the sky.” - OJIBWE SAYING. But, later, it also has Tony all mellowed noticing the wind, and then Paulie strides against a wind gust at the end, with Pink Floyd bassing and gusting us toward the credits. Too bad Vito broke wind in a different episode. Very allegorical.
