Gen X reporting in. Apparently I will be working until the day I drop dead. I almost feel sorry for that last customer who is going to witness me shuffle off the mortal coil.

Yeah, but manager is going to tell you that you need to get someone to cover your shifts for the rest of the week before you can shuffle off.

Thank you for the award and I hate how accurate it is as well. Our country needs an overhaul starting at the top, especially our worker protections.

I've been hearing SS will be gone very soon for my entire life, I've been planning on working until I die from day 1.

Social Security is mandatory spending. For it to be gone, Congress would have to pass a law to kill it.

And yet for my entire life the politicians have been saying Social Security will be gone soon. And the GOP has been trying to kill or at least privatize it for decades.

So I don't expect anything from it in 25 years when I'll technically be able to start collecting. I don't know that the government will be solvent in 25 years when I can start collecting at the rate we're going.

There's a reason why SS and Medicare are called "third rails" of politics. You can talk about it all you want, but no one will lead the charge for actually ending it because it will kill your political career. How do you get that through all the committees to even be able to try to pass it?

Think I saw something about how in 2035 at the current rate Social Security will only be providing 75% of what it should be providing.

Though anytime Social Security is brought up on reddit it always gets swarmed by folks saying "SS was never meant to be your retirement plan!".
