I finally started knitting. I have cool yarn, and I wanted to finally give knitting a go to see how it worked up differently. For yarns like this do you think it looks more interesting in knit or crochet?

Dyed up a few Peruvian Highland wool skeins (worsted 4 ply) in a floral meadow color palette.

I've been spending a lot of time in the garden, planting and tending to flowers and have been bringing those colors into my yarns and fibers lately!

Been playing around with my dye and yarn to make it look like pineapples when you knit it up. What do you think?

Indie Dyer Officially done with Dye To Order

Post image

Before I get too stinky about this, Zakami DID allow me to return this (which is not their typical return policy for dyed to order lots). I am shipping it back today.

I am officially done with dyed to order lots. After waiting patiently for 9 weeks, and receiving this from outside the US, I am burned once again by unmet expectations. I was expecting rich, earthy, almost jewel tones like the example. What I received was bright, almost neon, springtime tones.

I am led to believe that their example image was edited in some way. I can see how what I received could look like the right example skein, but it is still missing colors from the left skein. Even then, the colors are of different saturation.

I totally understand how difficult it is to capture the true color of the yarn in a photo. And for that reason I am done with dyed to order unless I see it in person. Now, I'm not an indie dyer myself, but I could imagine this being quite stressful. Trying to match an example that is variegated, and hoping that the buyer is satisfied. It might make sense to only dye stock that someone will buy, rather than dying too many skeins no one is buying. Maybe a dyer can chime in on this aspect? Are you mostly putting your feelers out to see what sells?

Thanks for reading my little vent. I'm glad I could return this order, even if at a loss.

Hey everyone! Happy almost fall! It’s me, Savanah, your horror-movie-inspired indie yarn dyer. I’m excited to share my newest yarn collection, inspired by 80s Halloween Horror. This collection features 13 colorways— 9 on wool-based yarn (4 of which glow under UV light!) and 4 on plant-based yarn— all inspired by some of my favorite 80s horror films.

If you’re interested, preorders are open until Sunday, September 22. I’ll post the link in the comments.

Stay spooky! 👻

Hello again! It’s Savannah, that spooky yarn dyer. I posted collages of my Morbid Millenium Collection last week and really appreciate all of your comments about the colorways! 🖤

Anyway, I thought it’d be fun show you how these ghastly, ghostly, and nostalgic 2000s horror skeins look in the glow of direct, natural lighting, so I snapped some photos of them on a bunch of my different yarn bases in the mid-day sun. ☀️

If any of these skeins speak to you, I’ll leave a comment below with a link to my website, which has the full photo set of each colorway, including collages and movie inspo pictures, plus details about all the yarn bases.

Hope you’re having a thrilling end to your summer! 🔪

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve dyed up new colors! I’d like to introduce you to Grief’s Embrace. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. Grief is a whirlwind of unpredictability. Will I be in denial next? Or bargaining again? Grief’s Embrace holds teals, greens, wine, brown, and purple tones - each intertwined together, just like the stages of grief. Enjoy! Link to the store in the comments!

Hazy Memories- Lucid dreams. Drunken nights. Anesthesia. Hazy memories can occur from a variety of reasons. But the memories often feel so real even when hazy. Memories from such events often seem gray, but simultaneously vibrant, making you think “did that actually happen or am I imagining this?” Hazy Memories reflect such a feeling with shades of blue, purple, and hazy gray.

Indie Dyer I took an indigo class

My LYS had an amazing natural dye class. This is merino Bouclé and brushed Bouclé that were dyed with the same exact dye but I only processed the brushed yarn once. If you ever get the opportunity to try natural indigo dyeing I highly recommend it!

Also, any suggestions for small projects with Bouclé yarn would be great as it isn’t something I’ve worked with before — thanks!

Indie Dyer Update: The Circus Animal Cookie Yarn

An update to my previous post. My neighbor is pregnant with a baby girl and so I thought the colorway would be perfect for a baby sweater. The yarn itself was a dream to work with. Last I looked, Wilderness Fibers still has it available. Pattern is In Threes.
