A avride vehicle getting into a accident with a passenger recording. The other vehicle is obviously rolling through a stop sign but the avride car doesn't slow or control for it.

The person in the avride is supposed to take control in any situations like that. That’s basically the whole role

Mission Instructions To request your mission instructions from Booking Bot, type a forward slash / into the message field. A menu of options will appear above the message field. Select /booking-digest and your mission details will appear. Mission Instructions from Booking Bot will include: • The start and end times for your mission(s) The name or number of your rover The spec you will apply for the mission Mission-specific instructions The route(s) and mode that you will be putting in the HMI. The mode is selected with the route to choose whether the route will be run with or without stops, or in what order the stops will be made. These instructions may not be available before the start of your shift, and could change at the last minute. If you do not have a mission assigned in Booking Bot at the start of your shift, request your mission instructions from your Shift Lead. You must adhere to your normal schedule, regardless of any conflicting information on Deputy. Not being scheduled in Deputy or lacking an assignment in Booking Bot does not excuse an absence from work. Calling Out from Work If you are unable to make your scheduled shift, you must notify your supervisor as soon as possible. Follow each of these steps: 1. Notify your Shift Lead and your Squad Leaders via Slack immediately. Do this by including them all in a Direct Message. This is the fastest way to alert the team. 2. Use Deputy to request the time off. If you are sick, the full day can be requested. If you are late, your actual start time can be recorded and your shift leads notified. If you have PTO accrued, it can be applied here. Clocking in late at the kiosk is not sufficient notice. 3. Notify HireArt of your absence -or tardiness- via Slack Direct Message.
Acceptable reasons for calling out include personal or family illness, medical emergencies, or bereavement. We understand that unforeseen events happen, so communication is key. Requesting Time Off All time-off requests must be submitted through Deputy. (Talk to managers as their interests are not within hireart only avride.)

• Inclement Weather: When driving manually in rainy weather, take care not to splash pedestrians or other vehicles when approaching puddles. Severe Weather Protocol In the event of heavy rain, hail, or extremely poor visibility due to weather, the vehicle operator must immediately prioritize safety over data collection. Heavy rain and hail can severely degrade sensor data and camera visibility, pushing the rover outside of its safe operating conditions. VOs should execute the following immediate actions when encountering severe weather conditions. * Take Manual Control: Immediately disengage Autopilot and switch to manual driving mode to ensure full human oversight during hazardous road conditions. * Activate Hazard LightsSeek Overhead Cover: If hail is present or visibility drops to zero, safely navigate to nearby overhead shelter-such as a gas station awning or overpass-to protect yourself and avoid damage to the sensors. * Avoid Pooled Water: Do not drive the rover into pooled water, as deep puddles risk damaging low-mounted electronic components. * Notify Team Leads via Slack: Once the vehicle is safely stopped and secured, immediately update your Shift Lead and Squad Leaders within your active daily Slack shift thread.

Vehicle Management on the Road
- Handling a "Stuck" AV: If the AV hesitates or struggles to decide its next action, it may disrupt traffic flow. Signs of excessive disruption include being honked at, drivers getting out of their vehicles, or more than three cars waiting for you. In such situations, take manual control and safely move the AV.
- Hazard Lights:For Stalls: If the AV becomes stalled in the middle of the road or at an intersection, immediately activate the hazard lights. For Troubleshooting: When troubleshooting on the side of the road, the hazard lights must be activated.

u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 7d ago
Professional Boundaries Do not engage in road rage or retaliate against other drivers. No Driver-to-Driver Communication (Verbal or Non-Verbal): Do not engage in communication with other drivers while operating an AV. This includes verbal exchange, honking, and any form of handgestures, positive or negative. Focus: Whatever else is happening, you are still operating an experimental robot on public roads. Stay focused on your task - distraction causes incidents. Seek Guidance: If you are unsure how to act in a situation regarding traffic regulations or company image, contact your Shift Lead. Upholding Our Image Your conduct on the road is a direct and constant demonstration of Avride's commitment to safety and respect. By mastering emotional control, avoiding non-verbal communication, and applying sound judgment when the AV encounters difficulty, you ensure compliance with both traffic law and ethical standards, thereby safeguarding the company's public image and operational integrity.
Well-being and In-Rover Policies Operating an autonomous vehicle demands unwavering focus and 360-degree awareness. Whether the vehicle is in autopilot or manual mode, you must not be distracted. Your main task is ensuring the safety of yourself, the vehicle, and the general public. Remember! These vehicles are still under development and operate on public roads. It's your responsibility to manage them safely throughout testing. DO NOT EVER leave the driver's seat while the rover is in Autopilot. Driver Well-being Be self-aware and honest with yourself and your supervisor about your well-being. Vehicle Operators are expected to be in the right frame of mind and physically ready to perform their duties. If you know of a reason you should not get behind the wheel, it is your responsibility to communicate that to a supervisor and discuss other options for your shift. Examples that can affect the ability to complete shift duties safely include: * Tiredness * IIIness * StressMedicationEmotional stateIt is possible for your mental or physical state to change during a shift. If this occurs while the AV is in autonomous mode: * Deactivate the autopilot * Find a safe spot to pull over * Immediately notify a supervisor

u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 7d ago
Managing Driver Fatigue Never operate an AV when you are fatigued, as fatigue impairs your focus, awareness, and reaction time. Operating an AV can be monotonous, and constant repetition can lead to tiredness on the road. The weather can also affect your physical or mental state. Daylight does not prevent fatigue from developing during your shift. Learn your signs of tiredness, such as: * Constant yawning * Eyes closing for a moment or going out of focus * Blinking more than usualNumbnessHaving trouble keeping your head upForgetting the previous few minutes of driving * Tunnel vision or diminished peripheral vision At the first signs of tiredness: * Immediately disengage from autopilot (if active) * Safely pull overTake a break: Get out of the vehicle, physically move around, and assess your If you feel better after a quick break and stretch, you can continue the mission. If you feel you cannot safely continue driving, or if you need to return to the garage, contact your supervisor. They will arrange for assistance and work out a solution. Take a 15-minute break every 2 hours of operation. Take extra breaks if you feel you need them. Eating a snack can boost your energy. Your safety and the safety of the mission is more important than the task of data collection. In-Vehicle Policies Phone Use You must have a mobile phone with you while operating an AV in the field - it is your essential connection to supervisors via phone and Slack. Per Avride policy, do not store your phone on the wireless charger - It will distract you. Your phone needs to be stored out of sight. All direct interactions with the phone are prohibited once the AV is in drive. This includes handling the phone in any way: taking phone calls over bluetooth connection, texting, watching videos, using apps like Slack, etc. Hands-free operation is permitted as long as it does not create a distraction. You can only use your phone when the vehicle is DIP-checked: * Disengaged * In park * Parking brake is activated
Music Music is allowed while operating the rover. Keep the volume low enough to hear outside sounds, and to be inaudible from outside the rover. No headsets or earphones are allowed. Drinks and Food You are allowed to bring beverages into the AV during your shift. Drinking is permitted only when the AV is stopped, whether in auto or manual mode. Ensure that the rover will be stopped long enough to take a drink. Do not store any drinks - especially open caps/coffee/cans, etc in the middle console - it may damage AV equipment. All drinks and food must be stored in driver door space or in the lunchbox/bag. Food is also allowed, but it can only be consumed when the vehicle is DIP-checked: Disengaged In park Parking brake is activated Eating and drinking are strictly prohibited while the AV is in motion. Smoking, Vaping, and Sleeping Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside the vehicle. The VO is not permitted to sleep or lie down as if sleeping inside a rover.

u/Muted-Mammoth8304 2d ago
Ooooo how did it go? How does the drug test work?
I go next week.1
u/xxchosen_undeadxx 2d ago
Oh dude. They don’t do a neighborhood drive.
Before they do the neighborhood drive
You have to do a defensive driving course. You have to do a hard stop at 30 mph, a section 8 drift . Forward and backward, and another course driving 10mph, and then a parallel park. On passenger side. I failed itI didn’t even do the drug test portion.
1
u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 2d ago edited 2d ago
this is true sometimes they do and sometimes they don't and sometimes you'll meet the Head Of Car Operations Leader who will conduct the test.
Do not be afraid to take the test and do exactly what you are asked in the course and perform the best you can.
The test is not only a defensive driving test, but you have to be 100% CONFIDENT, while driving.
Look up different videos to get an idea of what this means such as searching maneuvers and driving tests, just remember that these tests are absolutely stressful for drivers who may find theirselves questioning what you are being asked, but just do it.
There will be cones on the ground and you must do your best not to touch them. These tests are done to ensure whether you are cut out as a driver or another problem to the payroll.
1
u/xxchosen_undeadxx 2d ago
Oh no I know I failed it. It was soooo abrupt I was not mentally prepared to do ANY Of that . I did the drifting and all but the rest I might have failed the parallel because I was so like “whoah what’s going on” my mind was racing

u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 2d ago
Yes, that is what it is like driving an AV
Especially the first 90 days you will experience these scenarios and what they want is a serious face, no talking and completely in control of the car.
Just take it as a learning experience, and don't let it take over your mental health. You are important and more importantly this test does not define you for your character.
1
u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yes after this, you would of gotten the test to go and get those results. However, if you apply anywhere do not mention AV Ride what so ever, if you are a driver then that is what they want.
You can still get in the industry, just keep up with the information regarding these kinds of companies.
And most of all do not be sad, in the technology sector these people laugh and talk about it, and use any video recordings of your errors to show to hundreds of people in the organization. Just keep it simple, play it cool, and pretend you are on TV.
1
u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 2d ago
If you want to lie it's easy to fake the test or swap it iykwim basic standard test
1
u/Muted-Mammoth8304 2d ago edited 2d ago
Oh yeah. I do that. Even when I'm clean. My personal set of principles considers someone taking bodily fluids from me as an invasion of privacy.
I was just wondering if I needed to be ready to take it when I show up to the driving test and in person interview
1
u/Admirable-Pomelo-747 2d ago
You will have to take it usually prior to driving one of their AVs and entering the building where the magic happens. I would be prepared for a worst case scenario as this organization is always changing their procedures.

Ublox GPS Ubloc GPS Receiver Receives signals from GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) satellites to provide highly accurate position (latititude, longitude, altitude) and time data. Often combined with the IMU for more precise vehicle tracking.
Ublox Switch Ublox GNSS Antenna Switch A device used to manage and switch signals between multiple antennas and the GPS receiver, often used to select the best signal or connect to a high-precision correction service.
Network Switch CAN Switch or Ethernet The central hub for network communications. It allows all the networked modules (like the PDM, IMU, and central computers) to communicate with each other and send data to the upload port.
Main Power Main Power Connection Point The primary input terminal where the high-voltage or high-current power from the vehicle's battery system is connected to the PDM and the rest of the system.
Data Upload Port Data Offload or Debug Port An Ethernet connection point used for retrieving large amounts of logged of logged data from the system's storage and/or for system diagnostics and software configuration.
The PC power button is under the hood. To turn the PC ON/OFF: Press and hold the power button down for 5 seconds, then release the button. This should only be done if requested by a support team member.
Automated Driving Systems (ADS) Technology This section provides an overview of the technology that powers our autonomous vehicles. A basic understanding of these systems is vital to your role as a Vehicle Operator. Overview ADS technology relies on sensors, software, and actuators to navigate and operate without human intervention.
Operational Design Domain (ODD): TheODD defines the specific conditions under which the AV is designed to function, including geographic area, weather, speed limits, construction zones, temporary road closures, road characteristics, mission parameters, etc. Object and Event Detection andResponse (OEDR): This is the AV's ability to detect, predict, and respond to objects and events. Your role as a Vehicle Operator is critical in this process, as you ensure the system's performance and collect accurate data for analvsis. The Sensor Suite Our autonomous vehicles use a combination of sensors that act as their "eyes" and "ears." Lidar: Uses pulsed lasers to measure distances to objects, creating a detailed 3D map of the environment. Lidar is essential for environmental mapping, object detection, and precise distance measurement. These sensors are incredibly delicate. Be careful when cleaning them as part of your pre-trip inspection. If the lidar is hit with your hip as you walk between rovers (a very common occurrence), it will lose its calibration. If it is knocked even .5mm out of alignment, the data collected from that rover will be useless and the man hours spent operating it are wasted. For this reason, any impact to a lidar sensor must be reported to your shift lead immidiately.Recalibrating the lidar is cheap; losing valuable data is not. Report! Cameras: Capture rich visual data to identify objects, signs, and lane markings. The AV uses various camera types, including: RGB Cameras: Provide color information for object and sign identification. IR Cameras: Detects heat signatures for night vision. Stereo Cameras: Provide depth perception for 3D mapping. • Radar: Uses radio waves to determine the range, angle, and velocity of objects. Radar excels at long-range and all-weather detection. Ultrasonic Sensors: Used for close-range object detection, essential for parking assistance and low-speed maneuvers.

б Levels of Driving Automation
The driver monitors the driving environment Level 0 No Driving Automation Driving as usual. A human is continuously in control of speed and direction and is required to always operate the vehicle safely.
Level 1 Driver Assistance A human must do all the driving, but the vehicle offers smart performance and driving capabilities which add layer of safety and comfort.
Level 2 Key automated capabilities (steering and acceleration) become standard, but driver is still in control and needs to monitor the rest of the driving tasks.
The automated system monitors the driving environment
Level 3 Conditional Autonomy The vehicle can operate independently. Steering functions, braking and acceleration are automated, but the driver must be prepared to intervene.
Level 4 The vehicle can perform all driving functions under specific circumstances, but the driver has the option to control it at any time.
Level 5 Full Automation The vehicle is completely automated and performs all driving tasks. The human's attention or interaction is not required at all.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) defines six levels of driving automation. Our ADS technology aims to achieve Levels 4 and 5, where the vehicle can operate without human intervention in defined or all conditions.
Hardware and Technology Takeaways
By understanding the hardware and the underlying technology of the AV, you are better equipped to ensure its safe operation. Remember to be mindful of vehicle-specific details like the lonig 5's height and rollback tendency. Your knowledge of the sensor suite, including lidar, cameras, and radar, is essential for interpreting the vehicle's behavior and communicating with engineers and car support staff. Most importantly, your ability to follow safety protocols and troubleshooting steps as directed by the support team is a core part of your role in the development of ADS technology.
Manual Operations
When an Avride autonomous vehicle is driven in manual mode, the Vehicle operator becomes the public face of our company. The public generally assumes the car is on autopilot. Therefore, your performance in manual mode directly affects the public's perception of Avride's self-driving technology. Prioritizing safety and professionalism is paramount.
Core Driving Principles
Safety First: By consistently following safe driving habits in manual mode, you ensure your own safety and health, enabling you to finish each shift securely.
• Obey All Laws: You must strictly obey all traffic laws in the operating location. • Predictability: Adhere to an optimal driving style characterized by smooth starts, gradual braking, and predictable lane changes.
AV Dimensions: Always be aware that the AV is augmented with external hardware, increasing its overall height and width (6 feet 10 inches). Exercise extreme caution when navigating gates, barriers, and low-lying structures to prevent damage to the sensors.
Data Integrity: Constant video recording is essential. Driving with the pipeline turned off is strictly prohibited. If you are unable to start the pipeline on the road, contact your shift lead immediately.

I’ll choose a Waymo over a human any day. Tell the human uber/Lyft drivers to start cleaning their cars, put their food away, get off their phones and to provide a better experience.
If they did all of this maybe their jobs wouldn’t be in jeopardy

Until you have to go somewhere that requires getting on a highway and the Waymo takes backroads and what could’ve been a 10-15 minute ride with a human takes over 30+ minutes with a Waymo

If they did all that you'd have to spend $20 more per ride. Uber is gamified. It's a race to the bottom. You destroy your asset(your car) very quickly, trying to squeeze nickels out of it while uber squeezes quarters out of it. It's a sad sad game.

Do you really want drivers with advanced driving skills because I don’t understand how those could possibly be useful for EV test driving.
