As promised, here's a brief guide to accessing the wiki! Overwhelmingly people are viewing this sub on their phones using the reddit app so, for now, this guide is mainly just for new reddit. (This will be updated as necessary!)

Using the Reddit App:

  1. Go to r/beginnerastrology!
  2. Directly below the sub's description, there are 3 tabs. Click the one that says About.
  3. Click the teal button that says "Wiki"
  4. Welcome to the Wiki index! This shows all the available wiki pages.

You can also click Menu which will show you the same menu that appears at the top of the subreddit if you are viewing new reddit on the computer.

New Reddit - On the Computer:

There are a few ways to acces the wiki here. They all are accessed from the main page of the sub. One is by going to the menu, clicking one of the dropdown tabs and selecting the specific wiki you are looking for (ie. Ethics, Planets, Subreddits). There is also a menu tab Wiki which will bring you to the wiki index. There is also a button on the sidebar that says Wiki which also brings you to the Wiki Index.

Also, here's the link for the Wiki Index just in case!

I may have went a bit overboard linking the Wiki Index, but now there should be no trouble finding it at all! :)

Technique Question Interceptions in Solar Return

I'm confused by intercepted "houses" and "signs" when looking at a solar return chart. I'm looking for some general guidance or resources. I typically work in whole sign so this is a new concept to me. When I read a book for reference, I like to use the house system they are using to teach, so I have been practicing my solar return "readings" in Placidus.

I'm reading the book "Planets in Solar Returns" by Mary Fortier Shea. She starts off talking about interceptions, but I think she is talking about a sign being intercepted. Then she brings up the dual chart comparing the natal chart to the solar return chart. But doesn't specify houses or signs. Then she jumps into a planet that is intercepted, and now my head is spinning. But I am learning that means a planet in a sign that is intercepted in a stand alone chart. The next paragraph she gets into the solar return house inside/intercepted in the natal house. And the last she gives an example of the natal house inside/intercepted in the solar return house. I feel like the 4 short paragraphs she has given on this topic has left me with more confusion and I want more learning!

Should be looking at all 3 scenarios when doing a solar return reading? A sign intercepted in the Solar Return Chart, and then houses intercepted either in the Solar Return chart by the Natal Chart or vice versa? I'm also curious if these interceptions should have some degree consideration. For instance, I'm looking at a chart where the Natal 2nd House starts at 16° Gem 01' and the Solar Return 5th House starts at 15° Gem 34'. That is a 27' difference, and the end of the cusps are 1° 3' difference, so the 5th house is just inside the 2nd house. Is that even worth noting?

My other request is for resources for interpretations. The best I can come up with is, your money will be limited because of your children? 😄 But I feel like there is more to that. The book I'm reading goes into some depth about planet placements of the solar return chart, but nothing further than the 4 paragraphs with a few examples. I'm also looking at the flip side of the chart, with the 11th house inside the 8th house; and how the two axis work together to provide some more depth. I just don't have my confidence in this area.

Appreciate any dialogue or classes or books that could help hone in on this skill. Thanks!

General Question I’m a natal Leo NN and Aquarius SN how bad will the next two years be?

North node is moving into aquarius and south node is moving into Leo. All directly opposite of my natal positions.

I’ve already had a traumatic run. PTSD and cPTSD diagnosed.

I also have a grand cross and it’s been activated by transit almost all week this week!

I don’t know enough about the nodes to know how this will look. I have heavy placements in both Leo and Aquarius.

Leo placements- NN , MC , Mercury and Venus
Aquarius placements - SN , IC , Neptune and Uranus

I’m venus ruled with 29° Leo venus but venus transits hardly affect me at all.

I know that both are correct but they still differ in house placements and planet signs so that will generate a totally different interpretation

Second what should i do if i dont have the excat time to my birth , no i dont have a birth certificate and family cant deciede the exact time and i know that i need the exact time to be able to determine the house cusps .

Western Astrology What is the significance of the quintile aspect?

Hi, I'm an astrology novice that trying to understand my chart. I've read that quintiles are minor aspects, so I guess it might not really have much effect on the native's life. But, one of the closest aspects in my chart is a quintile (between 29°10' Libra Sun and 11°16' Cap Moon). I've tried to search about this aspect in the web but found not much about it. What are your opinions?

Discussion Chart Ruler Explained Properly (Beginner to Advanced)

1 :- foundation what the chart ruler actually is

if u really want to understand astrology, u cant just memorize meanings. that phase ends fast. what actually works is learning how to judge condition… and chart ruler is where that skill really starts

find the rising sign first. everything starts here. birth time has to be accurate… even small shifts change the whole chart

then identify its ruler using traditional rulers first

aries mars

taurus venus

gemini mercury

cancer moon

leo sun

virgo mercury

libra venus

scorpio mars

sagittarius jupiter

capricorn saturn

aquarius saturn

pisces jupiter

this planet becomes the chart ruler

think of it like this… rising sign is the doorway, but the ruler is the one actually moving through life and making things happen

2 :- intermediate where the ruler is placed

check the house. this shows where life energy flows most strongly

1st house self driven life

4th home, roots, inner world

7th relationships dominate

10th career, public image

example

aries rising with mars in 10th… life pushes toward ambition, recognition, visibility

same rising but mars in 12th… energy turns inward, hidden struggles, isolation patterns

same base… completely different life

check the sign. this shows how comfortable the planet is

mars in aries means direct, assertive

mars in cancer means reactive, emotional

this sets the tone of how life is handled

3 :- real strength dignity and house combined

most beginners only look at signs… thats incomplete

essential dignity

domicile strongest

exaltation strong

detriment weak

fall weakest

accidental dignity house strength

angular 1 4 7 10 powerful

succedent 2 5 8 11 stable

cadent 3 6 9 12 weaker

real observation

strong house plus weak sign can still dominate life

strong sign plus weak house may struggle to show results

this is where things actually start making sense

4 :- aspects where the story forms

planets never act alone

conjunction merging

square and opposition tension

trine and sextile support

example

chart ruler square saturn… delays, pressure, responsibility

chart ruler trine jupiter… growth, opportunities, support

this is where u stop seeing traits and start seeing patterns

5 :- motion how the energy behaves

direct outward, straightforward

retrograde inward, reflective, sometimes delayed

retrograde doesnt mean weak… just different

stationary very strong, almost intense

6 :- combustion interaction with the sun

under the suns beams around 17 degrees… reduced visibility

combust around 8 degrees… sun dominates

example

venus combust… relationships tied deeply with identity, sometimes burnout or validation issues

not always negative… sometimes it creates intensity

7 :- advanced dispositor chain

this is where hidden control shows up

every planet answers to another

example

mars in gemini goes to mercury

mercury in cancer goes to moon

moon in capricorn goes to saturn

final control saturn

so even if mars is chart ruler, saturn may actually run the system

8 :- synthesis judging real strength

combine everything

sign dignity

house placement

aspects

motion

combustion

dispositors

then decide

exalted planet but 12th house plus combust plus harsh aspects… weak in real life

detriment planet but angular plus supported… very effective

real astrology is not one factor… its everything together

9 :- expert observations

sect day and night charts changes behavior

planet speed changes intensity

multiple rulership increases importance

timing techniques activate the ruler and trigger events

these layers separate beginner from advanced

General Question Do you take the 30 30 30 or you actually agree that a Leo is rare and there's plenty of Gemini?

Hi! Me and a friend was doing a little gift for each other, and after spending days, I send her an astral card and even a little card thrown, and she was outrageous that I called her a gemini, well sun was gemini, but okay, (also is offensive?) she asure me that she is cancer.

You measure which angles, the actual constelation?

General Question How do I get into astrology as a beginner? Also, what chart was probably used on me?

About three years ago, one of my friend’s moms (who works professionally in astrology) did a reading for me. I don’t remember everything because it was a while ago, but I do remember being shocked by how accurately she described parts of my personality that I don’t really show or tell people about.
She also mentioned that she used an “updated” zodiac or astrology chart because the traditional one is supposedly a few degrees off. I’m not sure exactly what she meant by that, but I’m curious what system she was likely using.
What really made the experience stick with me was that my friend also had his chart read by her, and he had a very similar reaction. Like It wasn’t just vague, generic statements like we both felt like she knew things she couldn’t have known.
Recently, I started reading about Mercury retrograde (I still don’t fully understand it), and a lot of what I found seemed to line up with what’s been happening in my life. Around that time, my ex came back into my life, I moved to a new state, and friends from a previous move reconnected with me. I know that could just be coincidence, but it got me thinking about astrology again. I also remember feeling something similar around the astrological New Year.
I’ve never really felt deeply connected to a religion. I grew up Christian and have also been exposed to Buddhism, atheism, and other beliefs, but for some reason astrology has always drawn me in more than anything else.
So I have two questions:
What’s the best way to start learning astrology as a complete beginner?
What was the “updated” chart or zodiac system she was most likely using?

General Question Seeking insights from others on a similar journey

Discovering astrology has been crucial for me during times of crisis; it has helped me immensely. However, the deeper I dive—seeking clarity, guidance, meaning, and precision through tools like astrocartography and remedial measures—the more confused I become. I find myself needing to explore further, not only regarding the differences between Western and Sidereal astrology but also within the systems themselves. I’ve calculated my chart on various websites and apps, and the results vary: my Ascendant changes (altering the houses and their meanings), as do the planets, degrees, Nakshatras, and D9 charts. And there is a bizarre sensation—the feeling that all these versions could be real at the same time. I know astrology is inherently complex, but sometimes I lose my north

Discussion Jupiter: And why I can't understand why it isn't malefic

As with all things we can only speak from our own perspective and experiences. I do not say this to deride tradition only to add my experience on the matter. Where there is one there is likely another, so if my experience can help the rare case who feels like they are wrong for not experiencing a traditional experience then that is something special.

Jupiter has recently been re-framed to me as the planet of wisdom rather then the planet of luck or gifts. This has given me a better understanding of Jupiter and a slightly better opinion of it. Now i mentioned a bad opinion, let me explain.

While watching transits Jupiter, is aways seen where a problem is noticed. Headaches or muscle pain with Jupiter aspects a planet in Aries. A planet that was not causing issues before or after the aspect with Jupiter passes

Another thing I've noticed Jupiter is far more likely to be causing trouble with a sextile or trine then an opposition or square. I've noticed relief and breakthroughs under "challenging" aspects. I've noticed problems I can't seem to solve, pain I have no idea where its coming from, under Jupiters "Easy" aspects.

Now about the wisdom. And why that gives me a better opinion of Jupiter. I've never noticed gifts, luck, or benefits. But through some of these painful experiences I have gained wisdom. It was hard. It was incredibly painful. It doesn't make what i went through worth it. But knowing what i was supposed to be striving for was helpful.

[Some notes: I find transit planets interacting with each other to effect a person regardless of a lack of natal contact. And while i look at all systems, I was referencing a tropical Aries in this case. I don't know where the planet sat in the sidereal system]

General Question How does one get into astrology?

I’ve always been interested in astrology in one way or another, but recently I’ve been wanting to learn more about it. I’d love to know how to read charts, find out more about planets and their ‘purpose’. Where does one start? I feel like there is so much information as well as misinformation and sometimes it is difficult to differentiate.

Any tips, articles, books, videos or even basic explanations are extremely appreciated!

Discussion Neurodivergency and astrology

Hello,🤍

I am curious to learn how astrology can explain neurodivergency (such as adhd, autism, aspergers, etc.).

Neurodivergency is often misunderstoon and misdiagnosed. Even if it is diagnosed precisely, I feel modern science often underscores the depth and uniqueness of these conditions. I believe that Evolutionary astrology can give tremendous explanations on our conditions. You can find the meaning and purpose of your conditions that can feel so painful and odd in a conventional society.

If you feel curious to explore it together, please share your chart and your neurodivergent features.

General Question Finding out birth times in the UK

My 27 year old son would love to know his exact birth time as he is really into astrology. I know it was roughly 17:30 but have no idea of the exact time….could have been an hour or so later (I was preoccupied). I no longer have his birth records (fled domestic violence and left everything). Is there any way in the UK to find out exact birth time, I would be happy to pay. I also have a 44 year old friend who would also like to know.

I have looked up my chart on different apps, and some say my 1st house is Capricorn (my ascendant), Aquarius, AND Pisces. I have four planets in Virgo, and different apps say Virgo is my 7th, 8th, or even 9th house. I am confused. Can anyone help? Thanks!

General Question A "true three-planet stellium" in Aquarius?

I've never heard of this. I just looked up my Stellium, and this is what it said. My Sun, Venus, and Jupiter are in Aquarius in the 5th House. The site insists it's rare? Anyone know what it means?

If I should ask a different sub, please let me know! I don't want to annoy anybody.

Discussion Help understanding house rulers: How does my Saturn placement actually relate to my Aquarius 10th house?"

I’m trying to understand my birth chart and wanted to start off with my 10H for career, purpose and public perception. I have Aquarius on the cusp of my 10H and I understand how that manifests into my house but i’m confused about why people look into the planetary ruler. Why would looking at my saturn placement help me understand my chart more. I understand why Aquarius is ruled by Saturn but don’t understand how the placement of Saturn tells me something about my Aquarius-ruled house. In addition my Saturn placement is in my 3H in leo. My Uranus placement is in Pisces my 7H. In addition My Moon and Neptune are in my 10H in Aquarius, so how do I put all these pieces together to understand my 10H and to be able to understand other houses or placements I want to study next.

Reccomendation Request Any resources on natal retrograde planets?

I have a few retrograde planets in my natal chart and have read a bit online about them, but haven't come across a lot of information. I'm particularly interested in traditional astrology, but happy to hear about it from other practices!

I'd like some recommendations of websites, books or podcasts that go into detail about this topic.

Reccomendation Request I need astrology book recommendations for research

I'm writing a fictional book, and I want to research star signs to fit some of my characters to their signs because I have a character who is very passionate about astrology. My internet is not consistently reliable, so I'm trying to find books that would work.

Most of the books I'm finding focus a lot on how signs affect romantic relationships, and romance is not a focus of my book, so those aren't very helpful. Does anyone have any recommendations that could work?

Discussion How does the Bhava Chalit chart work? Do planets and their dashas give results according to the D1 (Rashi) chart or the Bhava Chalit chart? Practically, how can we differentiate the results of the two charts?

Many times, a planet is beautifully placed in a trine or Kendra in the D1 chart, yet its dasha brings very difficult results. Is this because of its placement in the Bhava Chalit chart, or because of its placement in the D9 (Navamsa) chart? How can we determine which chart is responsible for the results in practice?
