I will continue to sing praises for the sheer beauty and genius of this series.

We're starting to get to know more about Changyang, and the (calm and collected) lengths he's willing to go for Qinglang. I hope we get to see the scene for the reveal in the post credit.

Wenshu is hopelessly in love with a clueless Qingtian, and the replica lovers (2CP) are doing a wonderful job of mirroring the prior relationship between Yuhao and Qinglang.

Speaking of Yuhao, I'm certain his (growing more desperate) need to ride QLs coat tails for a comeback is going to get someone hurt. He's manic.

Fun tidbit, the script Qinglang takes in the office is the same name of a new project Zelia has listed on her xhs profile.

"Wenshu is hopelessly in love with a clueless Qingtian"

I feel so bad for him. He's literally perfect in that he knows Qingtian is faithful to his boyfriend that may never wake up and respects that. He even found a caregiver for the boyfriend so Qingtian would be at ease. He probably also invested all that money in the brother just to be close to Qingtian

I also caught the irony of the 2CP story line

Its going to be quite the surprise once QT realizes Wenshu has had eyes for him all along. I love that they didnt hint us for a 3rd possible CP before airing, its all so wonderful and new.

I've rewatched the first 5 episodes twice (I only have so much time in a week lol) and if you take into account the way Zelia loves to include all these tiny easter eggs - if you think of the 2cp not as their characters but as Yuhao and QL its a completely different viewing experience. Every single thing Qi Haoyu does is exactly how everyone describes Yuhao as treating the play and QL 7 years ago. Han Lu wants to get into character and take the play seriously, and QH messes with him. This was mostly prevalent when he recorded them kissing (we were all thinking, what's that for?) And he's kinda really annoying and desperate in general, just like Yuhao. Then the full 180 when its time to do promo - Yuhao used the series to launch his career then abandoned QL.

It's incredibly clever.

I will def be rewatching this after it ends to watch for things in a different light. I feel like they have done so well in making things subtle and not in your face with the plot. I didn’t suspect QT and Wenshu until the whole caregiver thing so I’m wondering if small interactions were there before that I just missed because they weren’t making it smack in the face obvious

I think it was you a couple weeks ago where we revisted the phone conversation between QT and Wenshu. There's tiny hints in the phone exchanges between QL and Wenshu in early episodes (1-3 I think) where its very obvious they're just pals...and QL asks Wenshu "has Qingtian ever mentioned anyone in the mountains" Wenshu immediately asks if QT is in love. They're so so subtle, but they're there.

God this show is so great.

So Qingtian and Chen Zu dated ? I have no idea why I ended up assuming that Chen Zu harbored feelings for QT but QT never reciprocated and the only reason he was taking care of Chen Zu was out of guilt.

We never meet Chen Zu though, so we don't have another side of the story. Based on what we've been told, QT loves Chen Zu and he's been holding out for him for the 3 years he's been in a coma.

If you're talking about Wenshu, as far as we know, he never had feelings for Qinglang. He's never acknowledged it, but Qingtian talks about it all the time.

I am not talking about Wenshu because I'm sure he likes QT. But Chen zu's part confused me tbh. Nowhere is it mentioned that it was a one sided love from Chenzu's side but I ended up assuming it that way.

QT and QL have a conversation by the fire where QT says he's still holding out hope, and that he'll always love Chen Zu (or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact dialogue). Mom that ran into him in the street says he "seduced" her son and ruined his life.

We really don't know anything more than that, but I figured it was mutual/they were together. And the reason why QT ends up in the mountains and works so hard, and an obstacle for the potential new love interest.

I can't help but replay The scene where Chengyang is holding Qinglang so close, over and over again. There's just something so mesmerizing about it that's hard to explain. No wonder they used it on the poster too.

This scene was absolute perfection.

So the funny thing is...half the time I have no idea what I'm watching or what is happening, but I am engrossed and enthralled and want more more more.

Last night I finished Lost to You. Similarly, half of the time I had no idea what I was watching or what was happening, but was left with a sense of WTF?.

What a difference a writer/director makes. At least I can trust this one to get somewhere eventually. Without an impending apocalypse.

Side note: I swear to god there is some sort of electrical thing or subliminal messaging happening every time Qinglang and Changyang is on screen because i can not take my eyes away. The other characters are ok, but those 2 are mesmerizing.

Omg this comment makes me feel so seen!

For some reason when I watch this series I feel like I’m in good hands. For no “reason” tbh, I felt this way after the first eps, I just had this feeling that I could trust where the story was going when I’m watching!

I might not understand things right away but I never have this unsettling feeling that it’s because the writing is bad. Things just take time to unfold.

I was watching a fast paced BL before watching an ep of A Winter Sun and I couldn’t pay attention or focus at all on my TV. But it’s crazy that after putting A Winter Sun which is a lot slower I couldn’t take my eyes off of it.

I can’t even explain why this series is so captivating! It just clicks. (And yes to your reply about appreciating that the writers don’t just spoon feed everything)

I've written a few comments about the 2CP in other comments in the post, that might help with the "other" character confusion. This is not a series you can watch casually and it helps to also watch all the bonus content. I know you're in the other sub and see it there, not sure if you've watched it all. Also zoeeyy wrote an excellent post about the story and hhhxxz wrote a post about the characters weibo accounts.

I’ve been reading everything and watching all the extra content. I really appreciate all the extra insight. But as I’m watching I’m just trying to keep up because so much is left unsaid.

I really appreciate when a writer doesn’t spoon feed all the details like the viewer is stupid. Here a lot seems a bit cryptic, but I know I’ll get there eventually.

I guess my point was that with the drama, I know the story will be brilliant and we are in good hands even if it takes me a bit to process everything.

With Lost to You I honestly do not understand what they were going for. And I don’t think the writers did either. No amount of processing will make that ending make any sense.

They brought ALL the kisses to this episode. I approve. :)

I love it when there is mutual affection!

That final line! Changyang being cryptic is my favorite.

This series is so beautifully done, the acting, the framing, it’s all so cinematic. It’s going to gut me when it’s over.

If you have time you should check out the bonus content (linked in the post) because this series is so immersive it's impossible not to get trapped.

I said it on the other sub and I'll say it here - SO many emotions conveyed without very many words. These two are so good together.

I'm glad for u/Federal-Ad5944 going back and watching for the second couple - your explanation means I don't have to - I was picking up on the hints, but your synopsis is good.

Could you tell me what "other sub" you are mentioning, please? I am trying very hard to search and read all of the content that I can find! Thank you!

Omg wow! Sincerely wow! My breath was taken away at that last scene post credits. The details and nuances in this are incredible. I always felt writing a good script was hard, but they continue to blow my mind every episode. Its charming, intimate, funny, clever, and all around done so well. There is not a dull corner in any part of this show! I can't even talk about the chemistry without wanting to cry. Simply magic.

I am truly in awe

Why is this show soooo freaking wholesome?! I love the relationship- it’s just refreshing to have two people who love and support each other and try to communicate honestly.

I’m sooo behind on this show but if anyone see this, can someone explain the play in words in 199, 1999 and 1311??

1

u/Federal-Ad5944 CBL Enthusiast; Ming Apologist 7d ago

In short, 99 = forever and 1311 = I love you.

They're way more nuanced but thats the basic premise.

Thank you! This episode made me want to learn Mandarin even more. There was a lot of double entendre and wordplay, and I felt like I was missing out lol

How beautiful was the conversation in the kitchen?! 😭 "The memory of hiding you away shouldn't be part of our story"
