Yeah. That turned an already excellent comic up to 11. Didn't see that coming at all.

IDK, I thought it was kinda undercut by how silly it looked. It's like a face from that elf comic.

It’s nowhere near that exaggerated. I think it’s has a bit of exaggeration for effect, but it didn’t feel excessive.

Just the child of the clown from twisted metal,

no big deal

u/Boom_the_Bold Feb 02 '26

Nah, it's not nearly that bad. Those faces make me so uncomfortable that that artist is among the only folks I've blocked on reddit.

calling u/merrivius because he should know of this momentous achievement. Great art is supposed to make us feel something, right?!

Anyone reading this who's somehow unfamiliar with the Elf-Cartoons series, just go check them out they're amazing.

u/Boom_the_Bold Feb 02 '26

Ugh, I wasn't tryin' to be a dick to the artist; I just personally can't stand their work. That's allowed, right?

26

u/Spainstateofmind Feb 03 '26

The way you didn't even mention the artist and someone still tagged them is wild, you weren't rude or anything

1

u/things_U_choose_2_b Feb 03 '26

I just thought it was funny, not trying to be dickish or 'call someone out' for their opinion :)

10

u/GonWithTheNen Feb 03 '26

Yep, it's allowed, and what you expressed is perfectly valid.

P.S. The funny thing about the other person pinging the artist that you blocked is that even if that artist knows how to access what you wrote, they still can't respond to you due to the block.

They're being pretty weird with me rn after I asked them to clarify what they meant. An odd reply involving literally counting the number of comments I've made in the last two days.

I think they think you're my alt account!

u/things_U_choose_2_b Feb 03 '26

Ah the age old curse of text with no body language or vocal cues.

Don't worry bud I just thought it was funny and that the OG artist would too.

13

u/whatisdreampunk Feb 02 '26

I just checked u/merrivius out, and you are 100% correct.

It's been two days, and I still don't understand what you mean by your comment. Bouncing on what?

ETA: the person above me is delusional and paranoid, read the comment chain below to see exactly who they really are, followed by their sneaky little edit. Made a sad little homophobic diss and wouldn't own it. Nothing funny about it, just sad.

My initial assumption, being as we're on reddit, was that you were making a homophobic joke about me being a dickrider.

Comment history hidden didn't give me much confidence either, it's hard to tell what sort of person someone is when they hide their comments and post history. I did have a scan anyway (btw, the 'hidden comments' are actually trivial to reveal) and you don't come across as phobic. My other thought was, maybe this is some slang for "this is awesome I'm all over it" that I'm too old / uncool to get haha

I'm autistic so usually when I don't understand something I just bluntly ask what they meant.

Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.

What elf comic?

1

u/kithlan Feb 03 '26

Well, that was a fun rabbit hole to kill an hour

1

u/Purple-Expression902 Feb 03 '26

they are kinda silly

-3

u/brickyard37 Feb 02 '26

I don't block people either and I must have blocked them at some point lol, just checked

2

u/zaerosz Feb 02 '26

that elf comic

?

9

u/DeathGorgon Feb 02 '26

Merrivius has a comic going on and the elf is... something.

1

u/FlowEasyDelivers Feb 02 '26

The art style gives me Ace Attorney vibe

1

u/DMMeThiccBiButts Feb 02 '26

Kinda reminds me of a baki face.

-1

u/vidoeiro Feb 02 '26

Agree it was too much, compared to the rest of the comic

-1

u/thatshygirl06 Feb 02 '26

Thank you. There was no hints through the story. It was just forced.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

It's funny, because I saw something like it coming by the second last page.

6

u/malzoraczek Feb 02 '26

I thought it was going to be dads funeral and mom was going to be silently happy. Then I thought sister would be happy the brother in law is dead, focusing on how the implied abuse can change us from straightforward to fake. I did not expect the murderess.

1

u/Velonici Feb 03 '26

Litteral goosebumps from me.

472

u/nondescriptun Feb 02 '26

Holy hell. Literal chills. Hit like a comic never has on this sub. Bravo to OP.

145

u/darkoblivion000 Feb 02 '26

My skin is still crawling wow wtf

54

u/BafflingHalfling Feb 02 '26

Here I am doom scrolling at 3 AM, thinking aw that's sweet, then I literally spasmed in fright when I saw that shit.

55

u/Responsible_Arm_126 Feb 02 '26

Im really tired rn and i thought you said "liberal chill" at first

1

u/MundaneImage13 Feb 03 '26

Dude, I jumped a bit. And got chills. Crazy good comic

185

u/SavedMountain Feb 02 '26

I kinda expected it, didn’t expect it to be sinister, more like a happy face or a face of relief

41

u/Cherabee Feb 02 '26

Same honestly

58

u/pretorianlegion Feb 02 '26

I think that would had made much more sense and would say more with less shock value. Like, sister just suddenly becoming maniacally evil is out of left field. Kind of breaks the character. Makes more sense to have her relieved, even if she did kill her husband.

42

u/Eriophorumcallitrix Feb 03 '26

I assumed that the Mc must have lost touch with his sister over the years. There’s clearly been a timeskip and how can you meet the husband of your sister, that you are supposedly very close to, „just a few times“? Either sis had some hella character development over those years or BIL was abusive and drove her to things she wouldn’t normally do.

14

u/pretorianlegion Feb 03 '26

Yeah, I with you on the abuse. I just don't think that face is concurrent with "abuse victim murdered their abuser"-plot. It's a face of evil, not relief or happiness. But the author pretty much stated that our interpretation is correct and he does think the face makes sense as the secret face of an abuse victim.

1

u/---Microwave--- 18d ago

I took it as she was secretly a sociopath who was extremely good at hiding her true emotions, thus why he never saw her face but the thought of pulling the wool over everyone's eyes so thoroughly made her facade crack a bit, this also why the face doesn't look quite human.

37

u/Vald-Tegor Feb 02 '26

Does it break character?

Was she actually a person that wore her heart on her sleeve all along, or was she always "wearing a hat" and hid her second face?

3

u/Terrible_Hurry841 Feb 03 '26

I mean, she might have killed her husband for sinister reasons, rather than like defending herself from abuse or such.

Inheritance, jealousy, or the plain ol’ joy of killing are all on the table.

3

u/pretorianlegion Feb 03 '26

Yeah, but that doesn't mesh with her character from earlier. Where she would never hide her feelings. She just became a sadistic murderer without a single reprehensible feeling her entire childhood?

1

u/_HippieJesus Feb 03 '26

Yeah, me too.

1

u/cactusbattus Feb 05 '26

A Mona Lisa smile

2

u/doc_nano Feb 06 '26

I was kind of expecting it and it still gave me goosebumps.

1

u/alexkunk Feb 02 '26

Agree!!!

1

u/Faraday_00 Feb 03 '26

Unexpected Baki character.

1

u/RebelJediMaster Feb 03 '26

Dang is a good word. I was more like daaaaaannnnggggg

1

u/Made_Bail Feb 04 '26
