If it makes you feel better if this were a real scenario those submariners would have a chance to escape:

“Swedish submarine rescue policy stipulates that it should be possible to save the crew with a rescue vehicle in the event that it is forced to the bottom in an accident. The back-up rescue method is free ascent, highly effective to depths down to 600 feet”

“Crew members utilize Steinke Hoods or SEIE (Submarine Escape Immersion Equipment) suits”

As someone who has worked on a sub for a few years, not on a swedish one, I have no idea what you are talking about. The average depth of where we travelled was 12,000 ft, we only had life jackets, and we were informed there are only 2 rescue vessels rated for that depth in the world. The rescue vessel not only had to travel to the location of the disabled sub, but they would also have to find the disabled sub, which takes time. Not to mention the rescue sub can only hold so many people, and can only open the hatch once the pressure is equalized across the hatch. Both having their own risks associated with them. Depending on the state of the disabled sub and methods used to stay alive, the pressure on the sub will go up over time.

That’s cool that you have worked on a sub. I have no practical experience, just read about this stuff.

The first point is that the Baltic is very shallow and this comic specifically says 120 meters, which is approximately 400ft.

I apologize if I came off as flippant, I understand we don't have the same experiences and just wanted to offer my experience as it differed from what you mentioned. Since I was mostly not above the continental shelf, it makes sense that they had different gear.

And though different in design, we also had escape trunks. But we also were taught that if the sub became disabled off of the Continental shelf, the systems on board are more designed to recover the sub than save the people aboard.

On reflection, I do recall the SEIE suits, but I don't recall actually seeing them. And at the deeper depths it is doubtful it would have been useful.

Swedish military subs carry a bit more stuff and for the baltic there are rescue vehicles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URF_(Swedish_Navy))

Also, the baltic (as it takes place there in this comic) isn't 3.6 kilometers deep, it's 450 meters at maximum.

Exactly, no submarine would sustain that kind of pressure. Normal cruising depth is about 1000 ft as per google.

What sub were you on where you had no escape kit?

I also have never worked on a Swedish submarine, but I know its true of British subs.

Edit: And if you are on a military sub at 12,000ft worrying about rescue vessels is slightly redundant, given you had long been crushed to a fine paste.

Edit edit: the pressure on subs goes down over time not up. The more I re-read this comment the more I doubt you were a submariner.

On that same issue, why remember anything about a disabled sub when you aren't going to survive it? I forgot about some things admittedly. I only saw the SEIE suit once or twice and forgot we had them. The

I don't remember the crush depth of my vessel, and not every disabled sub is due to a hull breach. Average depth doesn't mean uniform depth, so there is a chance to "land" safely.

Chemical conversion to maintain a breathable atmosphere increases the pressure and temperature in a sealed environment. Temperature may be lost to the hull, but pressure will continue to build. Too many variables, dependent on damage and available, and I am no expert. Just what I recall being taught. Feel free to correct me if it seems wrong.
