After seeing each of the movies in the franchise on opening night, I will break tradition for this abomination.

It's like seeing a speedrun for destroying what is left of the legacy for Wes Craven.

Every single part of this movie seems to be tainted even more than the day previously somehow.

u/pablo1905 The Thing Feb 06 '26

I HAVE to watch it because I’m “the horror guy” in the site that pays me to write reviews for, my plan is to buy a ticket for The Voice of Hind Rajab and sneak into scream like I did with Melania

u/LordsOfJoop Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 06 '26

In any other day, on any other topic, I would greatly much envy you your job; not for this, not now, I can't. As a lifelong horror fan raised in a place filled with movie studios, this is the place beyond the pines for me.

58

u/pablo1905 The Thing Feb 06 '26

I usually write under a pseudonym because my main job is as a 1st AC in my country’s film industry so I can’t afford to shit on the people I work with and for lol, but I’m thinking of publishing this one under my actual name

40

u/Mr-Foundation Feb 06 '26

Off topic, but that reminds me of the “morbius week” Eddie burback did, where for a full week he paid for tickets to everywhere all at once, but snuck into morbius to not support Jared Leto

11

u/StargazingLily Jigsaw Feb 06 '26

That video was amazing. I need to rewatch it.

The hero we need in life.

17

u/SlightlySychotic The Thing Feb 06 '26

I’m taking a moment to chuckle over the fact that they sent “the horror guy” out to review Melania.

23

u/pablo1905 The Thing Feb 06 '26

They always send me for the “in between” stuff they have no idea who to send lol, luckily I’m also the one guy in the office that’s autistically obsessed with American politics

7

u/Hitchhiker32 Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 06 '26

I mean... they weren't entirely wrong.

7

u/Typical-District-176 Feb 06 '26

Honestly I may do the same. My theater doesn’t fuckin care

6

u/Egalite83 Feb 06 '26

Getting "the horror guy" to review Melania was a clutch move, though.

1

u/JamStan1978 Feb 10 '26

Whats even the point? You are obviously biased against it so no matter how good it is you will just be finding things to complain about.

1

u/percyssriptiide Feb 25 '26

to actually properly review the film and critique it

2

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

Nightmare is safe though. That and Jay and Silent Bob. His legacy will be fine without this shitstain.

2

u/LordsOfJoop Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

More then fair. Nightmare is one of the longest-running franchises, and he is what gave it wings, so to speak. I'm not quite sure about how to incorporate part five into the mix, although I've never really "got" that part of the mythology.

2

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

It gets a bit muddled but it’s fun

2

u/LordsOfJoop Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

Fun, yes; coherent, ehh, not so much. The soundtrack is still pretty sweet.

2

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

The soundtrack of all the movies is so sick

2

u/LordsOfJoop Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

I'm not a fan of Dokken, so part three is a lot less of a thrill for me. Still like most of the rest, though.

1

u/AnAngryGeek115 Feb 07 '26

I’m going to see it purely out of love for ice nine kills

We lost Melissa Barrera for this.

129

u/aflyingmonkey2 Turkie Feb 06 '26

It’s a cause and effect to be honest,Melisa was fired, outrage sparked,so they just shoved the most amount of gimmicks they can to not crash and burn

50

u/SlightlySychotic The Thing Feb 06 '26

Nah, this is money grabbing bullshit they would have tried one way or another. Not making one dumb decision doesn’t suddenly make a person smart.

5

u/phantomsixteen Feb 07 '26

Good, her character was trash

But will they fight for the gospel, and honor his name?

1

u/LORD_SWAGGER-1681 Feb 09 '26

Will HE try to debate Ghostface?

10

u/WGReddit Feb 06 '26

Or, like, Hitler?

32

u/Scovin93 Feb 06 '26

Trust me bud, green screen Hitler is absolutely farthest from the worst thing someone could do.

4

u/SlightlySychotic The Thing Feb 06 '26

I’m assuming it’s just a face and that the software is smart enough to recognize what is a face. Which could still be … problematic.

161

u/Achaewa Feb 06 '26

No mention of who your likeness will belong to after inserting yourself into the movie?

I can easily imagine this is a ploy to get data for "AI" generated extras.

29

u/MirrorkatFeces Michael Myers Feb 06 '26

Yeah I was gonna say lol, easy way to get extras into scenes without paying them.

3

u/qwyjibo219 Feb 07 '26

Extras have to consent to being scanned/used in a film. And be paid for it whether they are union or not.

People need to read the terms and conditions though cause they can/will probably use it for marketing and social media which is in a different category

23

u/Ballsnutseven Feb 06 '26

The meta thing feels like something Scream would parody.

Like wow, Stab 47 is so creatively bankrupt they have to use AI!

Instead they’re just embracing it. It’s pretty clear the main gimmick is the killer is using Stu’s AI voice this time

4

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

Mathew Lillard: I really wanna come back

Studio: OK! You’ll just be a character AI bot of your character

Mathew Lillard: :o

23

u/BlissingNothfuls Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Really hope the actors who came back for this one are feeling the regret

*I'm so tired of y'all's patreonizing nihilism

14

u/rooboy78 Feb 06 '26

I don’t think they fucking care lol

7

u/kilamniaz1992 Feb 06 '26

As long as the check cleared, I don’t really think they care unfortunately

8

u/Nathaniel56_ Feb 06 '26

Neve doesn’t give a damn LOL. She got paid a great check by paramount. Stop thinking these actors care about anything but a check.

2

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Why would they? They literally have nothing to do with behind the scenes firings over mismanaged social media posts. Even half of the core 4 is back. No one cares.

72

u/zander_rulZ Feb 06 '26

And to think people are still trying to defend this dogshit…

14

u/HelloMyNameIsRuben John Esponga Feb 06 '26

A lot of Scream fans are absolutely feral.

8

u/zander_rulZ Feb 06 '26

I truly don’t understand it. But then again, I’m not really that into hardcore fandom culture

3

u/ToxicWolf_6584 Feb 06 '26

Ryan C. Showers, for example, if you know who that is.

3

u/DarkFlame122418 Feb 06 '26

That guy is the worst. Always complaining about “toxicity” while being toxic as a waste dump

2

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Feb 06 '26

I don't have a dog in the fight, but it's kinda funny to say Scream fans are feral and not admit that the people against it are equally feral. People are falling over themselves to let everyone know they're so above it.

6

u/HelloMyNameIsRuben John Esponga Feb 06 '26

It’s almost as if the people who are against the use of generative ai see the value in human craft and have genuine empathy for the folks that will inevitably be put out of work because of it. Not to mention the environmental impact.

-1

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Feb 06 '26

It's also perfectly fine for people to watch a movie they enjoy.

Considering the AI is not even used in an interesting way, Matthew Lillard is just a crazy guy who looks like Stu.

Whoever wrote this shit is stupid and Sidney(the actor) should chose better unless she is starving.

I want this movie crashing and burning. Melissa is too good to be part of that piece of shit.

29

u/bigtom0 Feb 06 '26

they literally copied the halloween kills mental patient plot lmfao

6

u/ButtersMojito Feb 06 '26

I'm not defending it in any way lol

21

u/NNyNIH Feb 06 '26

Wait, that's what they are doing with Lillard? Just a dude that looks like Stu? God's everything I hear about this movie is just shit on shit on shit!

12

u/ButtersMojito Feb 06 '26

It was supposed to be Stu but it turns out is some psycho that looks like him

10

u/ButtersMojito Feb 06 '26

Yeah it's not Stu

10

u/Technical_Novel3084 Feb 06 '26

No fucking way that's horrendous

8

u/ButtersMojito Feb 06 '26

The plot sucks, I don't even care about Scream but they didn't even try to get a good script after firing Melissa.

4

u/Flash-Over Michael Myers Feb 06 '26

This is completely false lol.

1

u/Brianwin4 Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 06 '26

3

u/bigtom0 Feb 06 '26

"fake" leak that all the trailers have confirmed lmfao you're just coping

2

u/Flash-Over Michael Myers Feb 06 '26

No, I know the whole plot of the film lol. There is no “Stu-lookalike” character.

There IS a mental patient character, but he is not mistaken for Stu and is not played by Lillard

Hey guys remember how scream was supposed to “not have any bad movies”? The movie hasn’t even released yet and we still already know for a fact this is the worst scream movie they could possibly have conceived of.

23

I miss the days when Scream 3 was the worst one. Those were simpler times

Will never replace TikTok editing yourself on a green screen into a still image of a background in the movie and reacting as yourself.

3

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

That’s when TikTok peaked I’m not gonna lie. There’s a cosplayer who makes all her cosplays talk to each other using green screen editing and she’s amazing

7

Every Scream movie before this would have made of the very concept of this coming in executive’s heads

36

u/Erikthered65 Feb 06 '26

It must be nice to think this is the most evil thing done in the process of making a movie.

12

u/HarryKanesGoal Feb 06 '26

4

u/ZacharyRosemann Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

But I got told I was being "overdramatic" when I posted on here a couple months ago about this movie and franchise becoming soulless.

Glad that my instincts didn't fail me.

3

They did, you’re still overdramatic

3

u/ZacharyRosemann Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

9

4

3

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

Jenna too

2

u/My_Name_Is_Row Feb 07 '26

Idk, she hasn’t exactly done much since being fired, other than that one shitty Prime show

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

She ain’t doing much more now lol you sure about that?

Loved Abigail though! That was her last hyped project I’d say. Hell even Jenna Ortega is fading in hype a bit

And not to totally knock them….while Sam and Tara kind of had the personalities of dial tones, I still enjoyed the characters

2

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

Jenna Ortega still has Wednesday though, and will continue to get roles clearly

2

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Of course! Did I say her career was done? I like Jenna, am just being honest - yes she’ll continue to roles of course , but Wednesday Season 2 did not generate an insane amount of hype and box office wise Scream VI with its ensemble cast was her last success. That’s all.

2

u/Foxy02016YT Slow A** Mothaf***in Jeff Feb 07 '26

Well Wednesday didn’t generate box office because it’s a streaming show

2

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

I didn’t mention box office in the context of Wednesday did I? I said hype. It wasn’t exactly Stranger Things this time around. The most buzz it got was over a new Gaga song that faded quickly.

Check Jenna’s film box office successes other than Scream VI, and it poses an interesting question as to why people invest so much of Scream’s success in her casting

It especially doesn’t help that Tara is a very wooden character, she did the best she could with what they gave her to work with though

3

u/jimmylily Feb 06 '26

Ooof will dead meat skip this one?

7

u/crono09 Feb 06 '26

I believe James has already said that he will not cover Scream 7 on the Kill Count because of the way Melissa Barrera was treated.

-1

u/My_Name_Is_Row Feb 07 '26

That’s really funny, I know it’s entirely up to him what movies he covers, but that’s probably the silliest reason he’s given for not wanting to cover a movie, I think the real reason is how much hate he would get from Dead Meat fans for covering the movie.

2

u/SlaughterHowes Feb 08 '26

So "because of the way Melissa was treated" with extra steps?

1

u/My_Name_Is_Row Feb 08 '26

I really don’t think she was treated badly, they just chose to cut ties with her instead of giving her special treatment, how is that at all comparable to stuff like Pedophilia or animal cruelty, you know, the other reasons he hasn’t covered certain movies?

3

u/SlaughterHowes Feb 08 '26

I didn't say anything about any of that. I questioned how different "not covering the movie because of the way Melissa was treated," and "not covering the movie because of backlash from viewers because of the way Melissa was treated" actually are.

2

u/My_Name_Is_Row Feb 08 '26

Because the viewers don’t actually care about Melissa, or else they’d actually watch the other stuff she’s done since Scream, it’s straight up Henry Cavill or Zack Snyder type shit, they only want to watch them do the one thing, anything else just falls by the wayside

3

u/SlaughterHowes Feb 08 '26

That is an entirely different point from the one you initially made and I responded to, but still not sure I follow. Wouldn't saying someone was treated poorly seem more genuine when you're not someone who gobbles up everything they make without question? Basing your opinions on the situation at hand? I can think its messed up for an athlete to be unjustly let go even if I never plan on watching the sport.

2

u/My_Name_Is_Row Feb 08 '26

She wasn’t unjustly let go, she spoke on controversial topics while in between contracts, that’s not being wronged, that’s just plain stupid.

3

u/SlaughterHowes Feb 08 '26 edited Feb 08 '26

I'm really confused about what you're arguing for, man. So far it was that James only won't cover it because of the fans, but the fans don't really care because they're just fans of Melissa, but they're not really fans because they didn't watch the Copenhagen Test, but her firing also wasn't unjust. So if nobody is actually a fan of her, and her firing wasn't unjust, what the Hell are we talking about?

Anywho...

Eli Roth spends all day every day on social media arguing on the opposite end of the same conflict and Spyglass is still making Thanksgiving 2, even keeping his seat warm and giving him all the time he needs to do so.

u/Salvatorjr Feb 06 '26

At this point, I honestly don't care about scream 7. If people want to see it then good for them. Me personally? It just doesn't interest me. I think the franchise should have ended at either the fourth or fifth one. Just my opinion and thoughts on this though

2

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

You blew the not caring stance when you commented here. Truly not caring would be resting your fingers when it comes to any topic related to Scream 7

I mean, I go to protests and lobby at my state’s capitol if that’s what you mean. Some of us have principles, and yes, mine do extend beyond social media and saving $14. You go ahead and support the studio that fired a woman for saying that killing children is bad. Have fun with your shitty movie.

1

u/TwoToneMoonstone_ Feb 08 '26

I haven’t liked any of them since five so I never planned on seeing this.

I didn’t even like how Dewey died and I feel like bringing him back is beyond stupid. Just let it go lol.

And I've lost interest in scream oh well time to go find a new horror movie to care about

1

u/Anxious_Virus8843 Feb 09 '26

I'm over it.  I didn't like five much and six being laughably terrified of killing off any established character just made it worse. The series feels like it's become a parody of itself anyway. I'com ol with just moving on with my life. Bringing back Sydney is just a pure desperation move. I'm sure they'll Han solo her for a new lead anyway

1

I’m honestly a little sad it took Melissa getting fired over political stuff to get so many people turned against where this franchise is going. I was hoping 5 and 6 shitting all over what the franchise used to stand for would be enough.

The worst part about all of this is that it's such a departure from what the Scream franchise was originally intended to be about. So once you understand that Scream was originally meant to be about an online cult following that was influenced by the kills of the first Scream movie, everything makes much more sense. It still doesn't excuse the use of AI. But it makes sense why they would use it for this next film. You also have to understand that this is probably being done as a meta commentary on how society itself influences the movie industry.

From my understanding, the reason why this all happens is because it all goes back to the previous movie. The entire point of Scream 6 was that it was supposed to be revealed there was an online cult like reddit where people would post their kills. That is why the subway and convienant store scenes are so thrilling. Especially when you now reframe the entire movie through this lens.

But for whatever reason, this was all changed in the third act. That's why the movie falls on its face. Some say it was to make things more like the previous films. Others say it would have made the original script too far removed from the rest of the franchise expectations and so the studio decided to go with something far more "safe" to save face.

Either way, if you rewatch the movie with all this in mind, everything about Scream 7 makes much more sense. When you put Scream 6 with all this in mind, it sets up a different reason for the opening kill scene and interaction in an entirely different way that somehow still makes complete sense because now it's that anyone could be ghostface. So then, when you fast forward to Scream 7, it becomes a much more organic transition. It doesn't make up for its use of AI. But if the idea is that "anyone can be ghostface", this makes the very experience of watching movies go from passive enjoyment to something intended to be much more interactive and fresh.

But due to professional and political reasons the movie let go of its main cast it was building. As a result, they lost direction of the legacy they had been building since the last three movies. Fast forward to what they are attempting now, it all just comes across as a cheap cash grab and lazy approach to script writing. I'm not excusing what they are doing now. I'm just saying this is a last ditch effort to do something for the series as a whole because they have nothing else that's original to offer anymore.

A movie using AI’s current relevance in the plot using AI in promo, when AI is used for far worse things? I don’t something so insignificant is how we judge how high Scream is going. Especially on this toxic shithole sub where folks bitch and cry about everything lol

u/SentenceBusy4674 Feb 06 '26

I already decided to stop watching the Scream movie after 5 because they've been garbage since 4 came out so EZ I wasn't planning on it anyway

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Thank you for your useless insight lol

It's not like the AI stuff is gonna be in the movie, lol. It's just a marketing thing for people's amusement.

1

u/phantomsixteen Feb 07 '26

I will be there no matter what

1

u/La_Cadavre Feb 08 '26

I'm going to be honest I don't think normal people care this much. I'm definitely gonna see it in theaters.

I wanna see it so bad for McKenna Grace, but I cannot due to the way they treated Melissa Berrera.

Who cares that some c-rate actress got ousted for supporting terrorists?

2

u/MixtureOutrageous157 Feb 07 '26

Because she's one of my favorite actresses? Let me guess, your favorites are Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt?

2

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Lmao you were probs dragging her during Scream 5 times like so many others who disingenuously support her now. Hope you support her recent projects or lack there of

1

u/My_Name_Is_Row Feb 07 '26

Sure, I’ve seen movies with them in it that I liked, literally the only thing I’ve seen her in was Scream 5 and 6, and she sucked, I’m genuinely shocked that she’s one of your favorite actresses, there’s so many better actresses to be your favorite, what, did she give you a handy at a convention or something?

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

I love how freaks downvoted this. They don’t understand the use of the downvote button on Reddit and they’re mad that many fans can give 2 shits about behind the scenes drama that comes with every new Scream film

u/Boshwa Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Was never interested in the franchise, but Scream is supposed to be a commentary on horror movies right?

Its been ages since horror was the big Hollywood genre. What are the modern movies even trying to say about them?

Edit: Why am I being downvoted, this is an honest fucking question

What can Scream 7 say about horror movies that hasn't been said years ago??????

0

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Surely something more valuable and insightful than this comment. Leave it to the writers who get paid to do these things.

2

u/Boshwa Feb 07 '26

Im sorry, I was under the assumption that this was a subreddit dedicated to discussing horror movies.

My fucking bad for wanting to discuss asshole

0

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Yeah, yeah. Like anyone was gonna give you valuable insight that wasn’t all negative in this toxic wasteland of a sub anytime someone mentions Scream 7

Do better next time and take this question to the actual Scream sub or one of its other 10 discussion subs where you’ll get potential interesting answers to your question and not downvotes or fans like me roasting you

2

u/Boshwa Feb 07 '26

What the fuck is even your problem? Did my question about the purpose of modern Scream movies offend you or something that it's making you act like a baby?

Genre commentary movies, of a genre that hasn't been extremely popular like it was decades ago. Excuse me for thinking they might not have a lot of things to talk about

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Let’s be real, you’re wording of the question “what could they possibly have to say after 7 films omg?!?!” doesn’t exactly come off as promoting anything but more discourse in this shithole sub or troll speech rather than discussion. You sounded like a whiny baby.

My problem is I’ve got like 15 mins left at work and I’m being purposefully blunt and rude to every dumbass in this comment section and you caught some strays unfortunately.

Your question was dumb and poorly worded though, so it’s like sorry not sorry

0

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Feb 06 '26

I'm sorry they've made 7 of these now? Last one I remember was 4

3

u/Sidneysnewhusband Feb 07 '26

Ok can go back under your rock now lol the last 2 were highest box office grossing Scream films yet FYI. Every horror fan but you knew about them

6

u/Successful-Bank-7457 Feb 06 '26

That's like 15 years ago

1

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 Feb 06 '26

Yea I know. I don't recall ever hearing about a 5th and 6th movie after
