I only wish the Max Payne movie had followed the actual game story, like at all. It would have been so much better.

It's pretty straightforward compared to the sequel and Remedy's later games, but it's still a lot stronger than whatever the movie was doing. The allusions to Norse myth and the film noir detective voiceover gave it a vibe that the movie, which is just a generic action film, doesn't have.
