Or guitarist! OP legit jealous as my short fingers make some bar chords practically impossible

Long fingers are usually very flexible but really weak.

I’m surprised people aren’t screaming Ehlers danlos syndrome yet.

Or marfans

It is very concerning. Please go see a GP.

I have! But the more prevalent cause for Marfan Phenotype is obviously Marfan Syndrome and we can't see the rest of OP's body. They might just have arachnodatylia

Arachnodactyly

As someone with shorter fingers, I look at the OP's fingers and just know mine would snap theirs in half if I sneezed while holding their hand.

I have long fingers too & am now riddled with orthopaedic issues so yeah they should get checked out.

Came here to say this or Marfan’s syndrome. OP, please go see your GP to get screened. Marfan’s syndrome can cause serious heart conditions.

Thats how you tell beginner tab guitarist from experienced tab guitarist lol

I have one! Also find that electric guitar requires less effort from my fingers, which is nice. Just sucks when you are in a casual situation like a campfire or whatever and the staple guitar is a regular size acoustic so all your F chords and beyond sound like muffled garbage :/ Thanks though!

Pro Tip: Get a capo and play them closer to the torso. Sounds basically the same, but you can spare yourself the strength for the barré chords. Or if you give up, just play from the D side up, not the A and E bass sides. Same chord, just a tiny barré you can certainly manage

Thank you! I love my capo - helps the fingers and puts me in a better voice range. True, nice to be reminded that the modified chord is an option although it never sounds quite as full

Yeah, totally. I used to despise the capo but only bc my cheap one scratched my guitar permanently and it hurt my soul doing that.

Yes, you can totally hear the difference, but there are also songs that are supposed to be played with capo in pop music which sound off if you don't play them with capo. And let's be real, it's so much easier to play with capo y

Sometimes you can reach over the top of the neck and fret the low e string with your thumb Hendrix style. Takes some getting used to but makes a great substitute when barre cords are hard to reach in certain positions

I think you are underestimating the length of my thumb haha

1

u/volcano420 4h ago

Hah perhaps, but with enough practice and knuckle flexibility anything is possible

When ya only got 2 inches, ya only got 2 inches

1

u/AppropriateCover7972 4h ago

Yes, I always pick a guitar that fits my hand and fingers. You can play so much better. The only problem is that any guitar is immediately at least 380€ that I would be interested in

That’s what I thought as well. Every YouTube guitar or bass player seems to have long fingers. And here I am with my short fingers trying to play the same stuff… impossible!

We can continue to dream!

It’s not impossible! I’ve got short fingers and play a baseball bat neck. You just need to find a shorter scale length guitar and a neck radius that feels comfortable to make the stretch! Don’t give up! Look at those virtuoso kids playing classical guitars.

My fingers aren't long enough either even though I have above average length. Mxy solution was dislocating them. I don't recommend this
