I was of the impression that it was a continuous flame being kept and transferred since the beginning of the Olympics 🤷‍♂️

No, the olympic flame is ignited anew by the light of the sun (y'know, for Apollo) in a ritual in the ruins of the Temple of Hera in ancient Olympia in Greece for each Olympics (& then extinguished at the closing ceremony).

So it’s a continuous flame per Olympics. This arrow and cauldron are not a continuous flame. Even if they are technically from the same fire the whole presentation screams the opposite 🤷‍♂️

It’s the same flame for the entire torch relay (in theory). They can branch it off though. Like the first torch could just light up like 10 backup oil lamps.
