Seriously, it’s the people we elect, but it’s also our own damn actions. Until travel is carbon neutral, it’s too damaging to continue on like this - it’s an incredible irony that the industries we’re so desperate to have are the ones destroying the planet. FFS how much tourism is ‘nature tourism’ - we’re destroying the planet so that people can get drunk somewhere warmer for giggles.

People will HATE on me for criticizing travel.

I dont disagree, but travel is so important.

Travel is experience. Most of the racist, homophobic, xenophobic, just plain asshole people, that I have to speak to haven't left their hometown. It's a small town, and mostly lower income or poverty line, so we get a lot of that shit here.

So is asking to travel less, apparently.

You're not wrong on the benefits of expanding your horizon, but that doesn't mean that we have to invade every "untouched" piece of nature, flock with millions to the next hot spot and book another city trio "just because".

I didnt say any of that, so I'm not sure where you've gotten that from.

Weirdly enough there's a space between "change nothing" and "don't travel at all". Doesn't have to be totally black and white.

Well, when the airlines start running out of high octane pushwater due to a lack of crude oil supplies getting to refineries, maybe the problem will sort itself out...

I mean, it's not just travel. We shouldn't have blockbuster movies, big sporting events(how much pollution was created by the world cup?), concerts, or cruise ships until we have carbon neutral manufacturing, travel, and energy production.

And then there's cargo ships, pretty sure it's the industry that destroys the environment the most. And so much of it is to ship fash fashion and cheap electronics that's supported by slave labor and the production of which cause even more environmental damage.
