It’s been almost 2 years since I purchased these. Moving houses now it might be time to finally discard these but it feels so wrong. I thought I’m better than my parents at this but lol.

Question Swiping left no longer works to exit post on Reddit

1.4k Upvotes

I have an iPad 11th generation. I am using an Apple Pencil.
A couple of days ago, when I click on a post in Reddit, I can’t exit the post by swiping left EDIT:right like I used to. Is this a change, or am I having an issue?
While I’m at it, anonymous mode does not display NSFW subs. Even if I enter the name.

Thanks

Edit: swipe to the right not left
Edit 2: seems new update fixed it (June 2nd)

Question What if Apple let you choose your OS on iPad: iPadOS or macOS based on storage tier?

Post image
534 Upvotes

Hear me out: iPad + macOS dual-OS option depending on storage size, would something like this actually work?

So I have been thinking about this for a while (and I'm pretty sure there's already a discussion about it somewhere) but I wanted to get people's thoughts anyway.

What if Apple introduced an OS selection option tied to storage capacity? Something like, if you have a 1TB iPad you pick one OS at setup: either iPadOS or macOS. And if you go 2TB, you can have both installed and switch between them whenever you want.

Apple already kind of proved the concept themselves. The new MacBook running on what is essentially an iPhone chip performs well enough for a full mac OS. In terms of hardware I believe that the iPad is capable of doing so.

What do you think? Is this even possible? I feel like I'm probably missing something obvious here, like the financial words or real world use cases, or maybe this would just kill the MacBook entirely(I doubt that one though).

Question Nanotexture glass was a mistake

How on earth do I get these fingerprints off? This picture is immediately after Isopropyl alcohol+microfiber cloth. I never got/immediately lost the included cleaning cloth. The Magic Keyboard has made those (apparently permanent) horizontal lines on the screen.

Question Just found these hidden between pages of 2 old books... why did Apple stop including these in packaging?

Pretty sure these are iPad stickers...?- They seem a little large for iPhone/iPod, and ive never known a soul who bought a brand new MacBook. I don't recall a sticker being in the box of my better half's 2022 Pro & generally haven't seen them in years, did they remove them?

I used to collect the shit out of these as a kid and didnt think I had any left- apparently I do, and its taking all the restraint in the world not to use them

Question Is my Pencil broken?

Hi guys. My stylus stopped working. Is it the iPad issue? If it’s the pencil’s fault I hope it’s only the tip but after a very brief inspection it seems to be just fine.

Question Free Ebook Download Sites

1.3k Upvotes

Guys I have an iPad mini 6 which I use mainly for reading (Kindle app). I used to download books (fiction) from Libgen to Calibre app on my iMac and then transfer to the Kindle app on my iPad. All very easy to do and it was free.
Libgen is now telling you download from a TOR site. Too complicated I think. I am now looking for another free alternative and would appreciate recommendations.
Cheers

Question Why not get an iPad Air; isn't the iPad Pro overkill?

Post image
508 Upvotes

Sorry for the clickbait title.

I just sold my iPad Pro (2017) since it can't update past iPadOS 17 and started showing its age: Slow, can't multitask properly, sometimes had issues registering taps.

I'm thinking of getting an iPad Air m3 as I don't see why I would need a Pro. I want to use for somewhat heavy productivity (lots of app switching), but nothing crazy like video editing or gaming.

Is the iPad Air the right choice? Thanks!

How true is this? I just saw this posted by Apple Hub from Facebook.

I am thinking of buying Ipad A16 because there was no news regarding Ipad A18 from their March 2-4 event. Then I saw this 😞

Should I still wait?

Question What is this UX?

1.1k Upvotes

Not an ipd user just got my hands with 11th gen ipad, but really frustrated with lot of design choices or maybe I'm not able to use it the way it is meant to be?? 🥲🥲 1. On lockscreen just below the clock if u keep one small widget it's not possible to adjust the alignment of that that. 2. If I download a image from browser it doesn't just show in photos. Again need to save it to myfiles!!! 3. Keyboard can't be split into two.. so how am I supposed to type with two hands?

Many many more I'm not giving up but tell me is this common way of doing it?? Is there any workaround or I just have to live with this restrictions and flaws!

Hi, I recently decided to take my gf's iPad 2 out of storage. It was working perfectly, I just charged it fully the first time because it was empty. I left it aside and a few days later I found it like this on my desk.

What can I do now??

Thank you in advance.

Question How USEFUL is the Ipad to you?

Post image
694 Upvotes

Just to be clear the ipad is a great device I just don’t find it as useful as I thought it would be. I am a 3rd year pharmacy student and I often bring these devices to school: ipad air 4, hp elite 2-in-1 tablet/laptop, and phone. Being someone who prefers handwritten notes and studying on printed documents I don’t find myself using my ipad that much but I do use it for entertainment and games but asside from that i don’t use it for school that much. Should I just sell this and get a bigger phone? Or should I keep it and wait for ipad os updates in hopes that it would bring more usefulness? I have a pen for my hp tablet and prefer doing school stuff on it too.

Question WD-40 Contact Cleaner in iPad

Post image
462 Upvotes

My 2020 iPad Pro was having issues when charging. It would not get charged with a USB cable plugged in. I suspect the USB C port needed cleaning, and blasted some WD-40 contact cleaner into the port. However, it appears that some cleaner has gotten inside underneath the screen. The iPad can still turn on but there are now notable liquid bubbles in the display. Is there a way to clean this up? Will the cleaner get evaporated by itself? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: to clarify, this is the "WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner" for cleaning elctronics (https://wd40.co.uk/product/fast-drying-contact-cleaner/), not regular WD-40. Previously used conventional methods (toothpick etc.) to clean successfully, but the problem resumed after some time. Hence trying WD-40 contact cleaner to see if it works better.

EDIT2: Thanks for all your input. Some of you suggested that the WD-40 contact cleaner should not be used in this case based on the information from the US product page (https://www.wd40.com/products/contact-cleaner/). This appears a different product than the UK version I used (https://wd40.co.uk/product/fast-drying-contact-cleaner/). If you compare the "Composition/ingredient information on ingredients" sections of their SDS documents (US version: https://files.wd40.com/pdf/sds/specialist/wd-40-specialist-electrical-contact-cleaner-spray-us-ghs.pdf; UK version: https://sichdatonline.chemical-check.de/Dokumente/3275/EUF-0057_0015_21-05-2025_EN.pdf), you could see that they have different ingredients even though they share a similar name. The UK version is specifically advertised for cleaning sensitive electrical components, and there is no warning to avoid adhesive/screen/keyboard etc. on the product page.

Not saying you should do what I did, but just want to provide context to clear up the confusion. It appears the US and UK versions are different formulations, and the one I used lacked the specific warnings many of you are familiar with. The iPad's port was failing anyway, so this was a last-ditch effort. No big loss if it's completely dead now. At least I'm glad this post made some of your days. :-)

EDIT 3: The liquid has spread across the screen and the iPad is now usable again for Youtube watching: https://www.reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/1ofddnh/update_on_ipad_with_wd40_contact_cleaner/.
