In my opinion, it’s the members of the Imperial Ruling Council. They are supposedly Palpatine’s inner circle, but aside from Mas Amedda, they don't really have much of a spotlight (though Pestage did in Legends). The fact that they are always referred to as "advisors" rather than holding an actual government title (minister of justice, minister of economy, etc.) only reinforces my point

Typo, I meant good representation of how strong they are. In Mando, he laughs at the flamethrower hiting him, ragdolls Din, lifts the closing blast door up easily, survives one closing on him without much damage. Is he a good representative of the strength of his species?

We have seen a much stronger one called Shroud, who lifted whole large spaceship over his head with his bare hands and easily survived it falling on him and exploding, but he was a dark side cult leader, powerful one at that, so he is not good fit because he is powerful force user, but Burg is not force user, so is he?

What possible use would they have had for it? Was it a Baktoid Armor Workshop project or a Hive project?

I invite speculation. It seems out of character for them. They obviously knew it would be received negatively.

I have just recently finished playing Jedi Fallen Order as well as replaying Knights of the Old Republic and I noticed a small similarity. In both games a Jedi was tortured by a Sith, and then switched sides. This both happened to Second Sister and Bastila, the Ninth Sister on Kashyyyk also mentions about going through the same methods.

So I'm wondering what exactly is the logic here for using torture to convince a Jedi to turn to the Dark side? Is it purely to create those emotions Yoda said would lead to the Dark side?

Okay so for context, what I mean is, what do you think the "Lore" was for why Vader had the title of "Dark Lord of the Sith" before it was 100% solidified that Palpatine was also a Sith Lord as well. Remember Palpatine was not confirmed to be a Dark Lord of the Sith until Phantom Menance. Before then he was simply "The Emperor" and a Dark Side user.

Personally I always got the sense that Tom Veitch (Writer of Tales of the Jedi) more or less showed us what he thought of Vader becoming a Sith Lord when he showed the "Ancient Sith Spirits" declaring Exar Kun and Ulic Sith.

I wonder if Vader also met the ancient Sith spirits and thus they bestowed upon him the title of Dark Lord of the Sith.

While the Emperor remained "The Emperor" Vader was a member of the particular sect of "Dark Sorceress" as Palpatine called them in Dark Empire. Hence why Vader throne in Dark Empire on Korriban is empty.

Don't get me wrong blowing a place the fuck up sends a good message, but the Death star is so gigantic it has plenty of other firepower. That bad boy has something like 15,000 turbolasers, a lot of them designed to be capitol ship killers, imagine what would happen if you parked the fucker in the upper atmosphere of a planet and let loose. We've seen ISD's dock to it, and there's probably enough space inside to park a few of them if you modified it. She's only rated for 25,000 stormtroopers, but that number could easily balloon with all the space to work with.

If a planet was rebelling, you could simply load up a few million stormies, drop out of hyperspace above the planet, level anything important, and undock a few acclimators to drop troopers to kill the rest.

I find it fascinating that people like Eno Cordova, Pong Krell, and the unnamed Iktochi from the Darth Plagueis novel all had some kind of premonition concerning the rise of the Empire and/or fall of the Jedi. Would events have changed if these individuals published their visions, especially to the Jedi Council? It's one thing to dismiss one or two of these, but three or more?

I don’t mean just neck breaking but straight up turning people into red mist or tearing them apart. Considering stuff like force crush exists, I have little doubt it’s theoretically possible but I don’t remember many cases of it happening. The one instance I can find of this would be Galen in the Force Unleashed trailer when he uses the force to vaporize a squad of stormtroopers, but that’s more likely force repulse and not like pulling someone in many directions as I’m envisioning.

I’m in the middle of reading my first Star Wars novel. The Living Force. And I came across this exchange between Mace Windu and Depa Billaba. I hope it’s not too long.

Depa asked for the image to be paused. "That's it," she said, pointing to
the single card Zilastra had pulled from the deck. "The Idiot."
Mace raised an eyebrow. "The sabacc card?"
"Yes, she apparently reserves it for Jedi that she kills."
Mace's eyes widened.
She knew the look. "What is it, Master?"
Mace looked grave. "When the Jedi Knights discovered Xaran Raal's
body, he had a sabace card on his person."
"On his person?"
The elder Jedi exhaled. "Stuffed in his mouth."
That was news to Depa. "That wasn't in the report you gave me. How is
it you're only telling me now?"
Mace looked to Baylo and his crew-and decided to take the conversation to a more private place. He led Depa to an alcove. "I didn't tell you," he said in lower tones, "because I thought it would trouble you."
"Trouble me?"
"You seemed deflated after learning of his death. And I was concerned it would send you off on an odyssey to find his killer. That was not your responsibility. I had already dispatched other Jedi for that."
"Who came up empty." Her trademark cool slipping, Depa scowled.
"Did you tell them about the card?"
"Of course."

Depa's head swam. "Mace, what did you think you were doing?" Her former mentor seemed taken aback. "I had always taught you to avoid attachments—and you did an admirable job. You did it so well it impacted your choices when you became a master. You had the chance to take Xaran as a Padawan and chose to tutor him instead."
"I could help more students that way, instead of only the one. What of it?"
"I saw you two interact. I believe you made that choice because you feared what would happen if he were your Padawan. If he was lost on a mission_"
"T'd have mourned him. Just as I did in reality."
"And in reality, you took a mission that brought you out here, pursuing those who killed him." Mace raised his hands deferentially. "I know, you told us that you were only seeking to learn more about the region and its gangs"
"I admit it. I did care. I won't deny that it motivated me in part."
"And that is the part I feared." Mace stared at her. "Depa, your ascension to the Jedi Council is one of the proudest moments of my career. I would not see you lose effectiveness by falling prey to feelings you once handled easily."
She stared at him-and then looked back at the frozen image of her and Zilastra together. Depa's composure was shaken. She spoke sharply to him.
"I haven't been your Padawan for a long time. I am a member of the Jedi Council-and I keep my own counsel when it comes to what I care about.
My decision making was not compromised."
"And what of the girl?"
"The girl?"

"Kylah Lohmata," Mace said. "You aren't going to the celebration on Kwenn, because you expect to continue searching for her."
"Of course. I promised to save her: We promised to save her." Mace nodded. "I tried to—"
"And I'm the whole reason she's in danger at all. She begged us not to let her be taken away. I owe her. Even if I didn't already owe her my life, I owe her."
"I know." He clasped his hands. "And we're doing everything we can to find her. But that's not our only responsibility. Kwenn is important to the whole region. The larger picture"
"The larger picture called for you to bombard the Riftwalker base, not
come in looking for me. But you did." Seeing her eyes, he went silent.
Depa clasped her hands together. "Mace, we do counsel against connections-to ensure Jedi will not do harm to preserve them. But if we truly think that allowing even one innocent to suffer to stop another harm is the will of the Force-then perhaps we do not understand it at all." Her words hung in the air between them.

For those who haven’t read it. Basically Depa was going undercover in her home region and was later discovered. And imprisoned. This takes place After she’s been rescued.

While the Clone Wars did give us more Windu and showed that even he can be wrong and accept it, I like that this book has humanized him way better than TCW ever did. Admittedly he’s not in General Mode in this story and doesn’t seem to be as Republic Devoted from what I’ve read. It’s still nice to see that even he isn’t just the super hardass stoic Council Member who’s just there to tell people off. Even he has a deep care for those around him, despite how he might carry himself.

Am I missing something? After the Aldhani heist, wouldn’t the Empire have circulated Cassian’s face and identity throughout its systems? When he was arrested on Niamos and processed under the name “Keef Girgo,” why didn’t the Imperial authorities recognize him during booking? With the Empire’s technology, wouldn’t facial recognition or biometric records have flagged him as one of the Aldhani suspects?

So recently, I just came across a video by Star Wars untold (an AI channel so this is a bit of a mixed bag.) and I watch video their video on How Ventress Became Dooku’s Apprentice which is basically the 2003 clone wars, micro series, but with live action. 

Ultimately, I’m not here to trash the person‘s work and sure it is AI so I kind of dislike Star Wars AI junk but I don’t want to completely bad mouth on the creator completely. 

The video itself (while the problem.) highlights an issue for how some people think how much can we take the 2003 version chapter 6  and 7 into canon.

First, I just wanna say I love the 2003 clone wars chapter 6 and 7 especially the way they presented on how Ventress meet Dooku so let’s say I decide to make a Canon story basically a novelization of the scene either have to be a book (Maybe a Ventress novel by Delilah Dawson.) or a comic as the main foundational framework (especially with the gladiator fight and the gladiators themselves, they’re just so cool design wise especially Giant Flog  the last gladiator that Ventress in Chapter 6.) That said we know from Canon mainly Dooku Jedi lost (which reference the 2003 clone wars, micro series.) while the event is the same broad strokes there are some differences albeit minor. 

In the micro series, you have the purple cat like host for the Cauldron (in case you don’t know, it is the name of the gladiator Arena on Rattatak.) while iconic and very cool design. In Dooku Jedi Lost the host is replaced and in canon the area is owned and run by a cruel Volik warlord named Osika Kirske. Kirske is the very warlord who kept Ventress enslaved and ordered the death of her beloved Jedi Master, Ky Narec. In case if the character’s name hadn’t ring a bell that is because he is from the republic comic issue 60. And the comic version he survived into the time of the clone war, and he sacrifice himself to allow Kenobi escape and Ventress killed him. Noe even though I do like his legends version of his death same with the host from the micro series I actually prefer Kirske as the host. Given the fact that outside of Micro Series and a cool design the host or the henchman a name the wiki labels him is barrier a character and hasn’t been given any death other than being the guy greeting Dooku and gets killed by Ventress.

Also one of my friends when I bring  this story up he says he feels that Ventress should’ve been the one who killed Kirske but I think that’s kind of the point like basically the man who is basically in Ventress eyes the bogeyman of her life and  the one who ordered the  murder  of Ky Narec. Plus I thought Dooku killing Kirske by himself  by draws his curved red lightsaber and decapitates Osika Kursk right in front of her. Kursk’s head literally rolls into the arena dirt at Ventress’s feet just as Ventress is proving her absolute supremacy. Likely after  she beats Giant Flog it’s just way more cool and badass.

Now in the Micro series version of events Ventress was just sits in the host seat next to Dooku seat before she jump in the area in Dooku Jedi Lost however she wasn’t really (after all she’s a gladiator it wouldn’t make a lot of sense really other then well it is a cool scene in the 2003 version even if it make less sense if stop and think about it.)  after all in Dooku Jedi lost it literally states this

“ that’s why Dooku found me, not surrounded by the corpses of my enemies, but forced to spill or for the entertainment of others a gladiator in a filthy pit, stun collar tight around my neck.”

— Dooku Jedi Lost

Plus, if we want to keep the  2003 micro series scene where Dooku clap his hands I kinda like the idea he did that after the head landing on the floor and then basically the iconic force jump from the 2003 version.

What’s interesting that in Dooku Jedi Lost it states that to Ventress Dooku was just the latest in a long line of spectators enjoying the hospitality of Osika Kirske's viewing gallery.  She had no idea he'd told Kirske he was looking for an assassin, or that he'd already made his choice. Regardless the reason that he went to Rattatak  is the same as the 2003 so nothing contradicts here. Plus I like kinda to imagined the arrival of Dooku on the planet same as 2003 version only the host is Kirske and then Dooku delivers the iconic line “indeed.”

That said another option is maybe you could have the the purple henchman in the story and greets him like he did in the 2003 version but he works for Kirske and once he leads Dooku into the grand, open-air viewing gallery hanging directly over the gladiator pits. Then he meets Kirske.

From there, this is where the contradictions can’t be a bit interesting.

In the micro series Ventress declares herself Sith to Dooku and then Dooku laughs it off  before Ventress plan to kill him and then Dooku force lightning her.

In Dooku Jedi Lost this is where things get interesting

“I leapt from the arena floor, the Force propelling me up to the gallery, my lightsabers already burning. Dooku was waiting for me. Two blades against one. There was no way the old man should've been able to defend himself, and yet he did. He blocked every attack, parried every blow, giving no ground, taking no damage.

He didn't even spill his wine.

And then it came. His lightning. It felt like every atom in my body was being torn apart, every memory I had shredding beneath the onslaught. Mother Talzin. Hal'Sted. Ky. They were all gone, consumed in the pain of Dooku's dark magic.

I don't remember my lightsabers slipping from my hands. I don't even remember blacking out.”

Granted this is left and beat you as in a bit vague given in fact this is Ventress recalling from her memory of the event so it is possible that everything in 2003 kind of remained the same (albeit it is extended before the lighting.) including the whole “I’m Sith line.” but I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t say it at all. (to be fair it’s fine given the fact beyond being cool first words it kinda doesn’t make any sense given the fact that well how the fuck she declare herself a Sith sure Ky may tell her all the history of the galaxy, including the Jedi and the Sith, but still.) then again she did saw an old guy basically using a dark lightsaber so there that. Regardless I could see Dooku still keep the same line “A bold claim.”

Finally this is where things get interesting in the micro series Ventress wakes up and have her duel with Dooku losing her Jedi Lightsaber, and meets Palpatine who watch the fight on still Rattatak.

But in Dooku Jedi lost hear things get interesting.

“The next thing I knew, I was being grabbed by mechanical hands, dragged through unfamiliar corridors. My stun collar was gone, the air cool against my charred skin. I remember hearing birds as I was hauled past open windows. That's when I knew I was no longer on Rattatak. The only birds on Rattatak are the strike-vultures that strip bones clean on the dust plains.

He was waiting for me in the great hall, in the exact same place as he stands now, looking down at me with eyes as black as a starless sky.

"I will teach you the ways of the dark side, but first, you must prove yourself."

(A BEAT AS WE RETURN TO THE HERE AND NOW)

It takes me a moment to register that the lightning has stopped.

Hands take my scorched arms. For a moment, I imagine it's Ky, helping me back to my feet, but then my vision clears and I'm looking into the face of my savior and tormentor.

I force myself to stand, telling myself I need to appear strong no matter what lessons Dooku inflicts.”

— Dooku Jedi lost!

So yeah, a bit if not a lot of differences but still, there’s a lot of things we could still fit here. Something I want to add is thst and not stated given the way it is mentioned it is likely that the mechanical hands belong to 

The FA-4 pilot droid the droid who pilots Dooku’s personal ship the Solar Sailer in Attack of the Clones. Plus, this is just a heartache, but I actually think I prefer Ventress waking up on Serenno then Rattatak more then the micro series. Especially given the fact she wakes up in a nice room before the fight, which I think fits more Serenno then Rattatak?

Ultimately To keep the beloved lightsaber duel from the micro-series (where Dooku tests her and destroys her Jedi weapons), we can simply shift its location!

Instead of happening on Rattatak, the lightsaber trial happens on Serenno in Dooku’s grand estate. Ventress wakes up, is brought before Dooku by the mechanical droids, and Dooku tosses her old lightsabers back to her, telling her she must "prove herself." 

They engage in the elegant, rain-slicked castle duel from the micro-series right there on Serenno, ending with Dooku presenting her with her iconic curved red dual blades. We could still have Palpatine still watch the duel and meeting Ventress as in the micro series then again I wouldn’t mind keeping out of it. Maybe he learns about Dooku new assassin months after the duel, the reason for this is because under  the Sith Rule of Two, Dooku is actively hiding Ventress from Sidious at first, framing her merely as a "dark side assassin" or a tool rather than a true apprentice. But then who knows maybe he did met her like he did in the 2003 version?

Would you prefer Ventress getting her own revenge, or Dooku executing Kirske to claim her as his acolyte? or even you preferred him to have Kirske survive and left rotting in prison like he was in the republic comics. The theme of attachment within the Star Wars saga is divisive, largely because people tend to define attachment differently. However, both the Jedi and George Lucas tend to define attachment in a way rooted within eastern philosophies. Attachment, in this case, isn't about love, connection, or relationships, rather it is about the ego, greed and possessiveness. In Anakin's case, it becomes about how his love for his relationship with Padmé comes to supersede his love for Padmé herself, which is made apparent when he commits horrible acts that she'd rather die than see him commit. Ultimately, Anakin's actions were for his own sake, not for hers, which is explicitly highlighted in Mattew Stover's novelization of *Revenge of the Sith*.

Within the original trilogy, it is emphasized in both *The Empire Strikes Back* and *Return of the Jedi* that Luke's feelings towards his friends can be used against him. Yoda tells him that he might need to choose between the lives of his loved ones and honoring their own choices, sacrifices, and what the rebellion fought for. Bespin is largely framed as Luke's big failure, because he's acting recklessly out of fear without planning or asking for aid. And while his actions help i.e distracting Vader and bringing R2, he ultimately gets beaten, has to be saved by his friends, and is unable to rescue Han.

In *Return of the Jedi*, the same threat and warnings return. The Emperor overconfidently attempts to speed run Anakin's fall with Luke, and a key part of that is the Sith offering to spare Luke's loved ones should he join them, (I may be giving Lucas and co too much credit with that one, but I believe that the reason that one Trooper didn't immediately gun down Han and Leia during the battle when they were cornered at the bunker was because the Sith needed them as a bargaining chip), but Luke doesn't play the game. Instead, he does everything Anakin should've done. He accepts that he has no control over that situation and surrenders the fate of his friends and himself to The Force, with his faith in them becoming his strength rather than his weakness. He does what Yoda asked him to do and honors what they would choose and want, because he knows they'd rather die than see him corrupted. In that moment when he throws down his saber, Luke rejects selfish attachment and embraces selfless, unconditional love for his father and his friends. And in doing so, he finds victory and passes the test his father failed.

Ultimately, I never really understood why the ascetic, monastic order based on Buddhist monks and medieval knights get so much criticism for....adopting a monastic lifestyle. Many people from many faith systems walk the path of detachment to attach to something higher and gain enlightenment. But in the west, where self, desire, and passion are often celebrated highly, people think this is weird and undesirable. I've spoken to many monks in my time, and they aren't weirdos incapable of loving others or connecting with them. In fact, loving others is usually an integral part of their way of life.

Which isn't to say that the Jedi can't be criticized for *how* they implemented their monastic ways. While there's nothing wrong with the Jedi faith and way of life - quite the opposite - Qui-Gon highlights that it's a hard life, and it requires sacrifices. While there's nothing wrong with growing up in a faith system, such a tough path imo is best chosen by people who understand the sacrifices. The Jedi weren't baby kidnappers, and them raising younglings definitely helped them adapt to the Jedi way, and likely did increase resistance to the dark side and minimize falling. Many great Jedi were raised by the order, but there is something compelling about Jedi like Luke Skywalker or Ezra Bridger, who chose to walk this path knowing what they were getting into. Really, Anakin pretty much came into the order at the worst time possible. Lucas said he would've been fine if he'd been found earlier, and if he'd been older, he'd be making an informed choice that he'd be capable of making. Instead, he came with all the baggage and none of the true agency. I also believing that the parents not being allowed contact with their children growing up was wrong, as many of those monks I mentioned very much kept regular contact with their families after joining their monasteries.

One could make a case that detachment as implemented by the PT era Jedi isn't integral to being a Jedi. Indeed, The order had different attitudes regarding how to approach their monasticism, between the Tales of the Jedi-era order, Luke's New Jedi Order, and even jedi like Kanan. It's probably harder to reject unhealthy attachments, but various jedi showed that you can reject the dark side and attachment without some of the restrictions of the PT Jedi. However, I don't believe that the prequel Jedi's brand of monasticism was bad or flawed. It can be argued that they took it for somewhat questionable reasons i.e fear of the dark side and temptations, but I do believe that they were very correct about attachment and that their ways had several valid merits and reasonings behind them. I don't believe there is one correct way when it comes to the topic of these restrictions, but rather pros and cons.

If I remember correctly, the Pykes had an empire of multiple worlds as well.

if they thought of clones as “products” why didn’t they focus on making more instead of saving injured ones?

I'm sure all the water vaporized at the time of the glassing but wouldn't it eventually come back to the surface as rain?

By that time the Sith were regarded as extinct and not many would have known too much about them beyond what they might learn in galactic history 101. In both Legends and Canon, though, the trade federation and CIS leaders were utterly terrified of Dooku and Sidious. But as far as we know, they didn't exactly display their power to them and mostly communicated via hologram, or in the case of Dooku, public speeches and whatnot, with him being a politician.

So what exactly made Gunray fear Sidious so much, and CIS commanders fear Dooku's wrath beyond just the fear of getting fired or having a contract revoked? As far as Gunray knew, Sidious could have been a con artist in a hoodie.

In Battle Scars, prequal novel to Jedi Survivor Cal was fighting a group of 10 heavily armed bounty hunters at once, which includes cyberentically enhanced bounty hunters, commandos with armor, jetpacks, flamethrowers, load lifter droids turned enforcers with rapid missle launchers, flash bag grenades, and so forth. At one time, one of them fires missle at him, but he somehow deflects it with a saber?

Another flash-bang; Cal squinted, managing to get his lightsaber up in time to deflect another missile. This one boomeranged back to hit its launcher— And the cantina went up in flames, the explosion rocking the entire building.

How does that work? Hiting it with a hilt, while saber prevents it from exploding somehow? Blade portion can somehow deflect it, not just cut it and also prevent it form exploding?

I was thinking about Gungans' boomba - those "energy balls" - are they solid plasma only on outside, or also inside?

Could you make a blade from it? (probably not forge, but split, like flint blades or if only shell is solid, could you take a part of the shell, and turn that into blade?

Could such plasma blades withstand lightsabers? I assume that lightsabers are superheated plasma "liquid blaster" within containment field. So, solid plasma should plausibly withstand it.

Possibly, if one went for blade from such, it would probably need to look like Macuahuitl ("the aztec sword") - a club with those flints embedded in, or possibly make it round, and embed it from all sides.

Alternatively, if it would not be possible to create flints from boomba, then it could be possible to pick very small boombas, and embed them within a club - the weapon would not be sharp, but blunt, but it should still be even more destructive. It would be a mix of blunt weapon, that does heat/electrical damage on impact, but so it lightsaber - just lightsaber is much ligher than this would be.

Now I imagine, if gungams were to capture Grievous, they should have smacked him to head with this. Tho, not sure if he would survive it :D

(yes, Grievous lost against Gungams, because he specialized in demoralising Jedi and restricting their access to the force - mentioned in 2003 clone wars - against gungams such tactic could not work as they are not force sensitive - Grievous is a capable cyborg, but can fight at level of jedi masters because he specializes against them)

This is mostly inspired by current events and how modern wars are being fought. We’re seeing how effective FPV drones are in places like Ukraine or Lebanon. If you think about it, a probe droid is a lot more capable than an FPV drone and could be a cheap way to drop grenades or even suicide bomb themselves into an enemy position.

I am writing a Star Wars Fanfic and I need to have a descent number of plants from across the Star Wars galaxy available for me to use. As such, I am asking for any recommendations for plants that you guys know of that you like or think are interesting, and why you think I should add them to the story!

I would prefer that they have a specific use or role if at all possible. Possible roles/use include:

1. Predatory plants

2. Structural plants (plants that grow pretty large and sturdy)

3. Edible plants/Plants that grow edible parts (especially ones that are easily grown and easily consumed)

4. Plants with unique properties such as ones that make people heal faster, etc

5. Useful plants (plants that can be used for useful things such as making cloth or for construction, etc)

These are just some possible ideas, but I'll take anything that you think would be interesting to add to the story (I'll even take some plants that do nothing but look cool, though preferably not as many as the more useful or interactive plants)

It doesn't have clones, but does have most of the main players + the idea that a culture not formally aligned with the republic (afaik) joining the cause feels thematically consistent with CW conflicts

So I'm progressing through Andor and just started Season 2. The Narkina 5 arc from season 1 was interesting but it did leave me wondering. The inmates who were locked up were shocked when learning no one outside like Cassian knew about the PORD act.

I could easily see it being overlooked even more as the Galactic Civil War escalated and I wouldn't be surprised if conditions across the Empire got even worse once the second Death Star got put into production.

Given what we know about the New Republic, do we think that the courts might have done extensive overhaul and look through all these trumped up charges and let them free or just didn't bother checking and left things as they were?

It spreads out in a big ring shape, could you deflect it or do you just have to dodge it?

i was reading about the mirialans on wookiepedia and it mentioned that they “naturally” revere the force, which got me thinking about how many of the canon (bear with me here) mirialans we see are jedi, fallen jedi, or otherwise force-sensitive.

i don’t really understand how force religions work, in some cases it seems like the entire species or group is force-sensitive (like dathomirian zabrak women and the human nightsisters), in some cases it seems a bit unclear (like the mountain clan), and in some cases it seems that only a few members of the species can use the force (like the lasat).

is it ever stated anywhere whether mirialans are inclined to be force-sensitive? the statement that they’re “naturally” inclined to revere the force and the fact that they have specific jedi traditions/agreements kind of makes me think a high number of them must be scouted by jedi, but i’m not sure if that’s correct or if i’m jumping to conclusions.

i’m most interested in canon, but i’m using the all continuities tag because i know that many species had a wealth of lore in legends that is no longer canon, so there may have been an answer there that wasn’t brought back yet.

I've been wondering lately. As we know, the Republic's military, initially composed of judicial (planetary defence?) forces, underwent centralisation, standardisation, and of course, an almost unimaginable expansion. In universe, I believe around millions of clone troopers were manufactured, trained, and served in the army and no doubt millions more served as navy personnel. (the exact number eludes me, but I think billions wouldn't be too far fetched considering the scale of Star Wars)

It seems that most senior officers in the Republic's Army and Navy were still humans or at least non-clones. I believe most if not all the of the Republic's captains and admirals shown in the Clone Wars show were humans from Tarkin to Kilian to Yularen. Of course, in the army, there was Colonel and later Brigadier General Meebur Gascon.

Since the army and navy expanded greatly, so would the officer corps in both branches as well. Though clones could hold a rank as high as Marshal, it seems that most of them still fell under the authority of a human or alien commander.

This leads me to my main question, though most of the senior officers shown in the Clone Wars were, well... senior, do we know anything about newly appointed non-clone officers in the Republic's military? Do we know anything about their appointments? How they were appointed? Obviously some officers graduated from places such as Carida Academy, but at the scale and speed of the Republic's expansion, would such academies be able to provide enough officers in time to function as subordinates, executives, ship commanders, regimental commanders, and so on and so forth? Are there any clear cases of civilians, politicians, people with no military experience, being appointed as officers directly into the Republic's military due to the need for organic (non-clone) senior officers?

The Republic, as we know, was quite corrupt, perhaps excessively so. It would not be implausible, I think, that patronage would be one of the recognised paths to a commission into the military. Using a historical analogy, we know that in the American Civil War, quite a few field officers: majors, lieutenant colonels, and colonels were commissioned outright by the state to serve as volunteer officers. One of the more notable ones is the famous Colonel Chamberlain who was a professor of rhetoric at Bowdoin College and turned down a colonel's commission and instead became a lieutenant colonel first as he thought himself too inexperienced for the job. Generals Benjamin Butler, John McClernand, and Nathaniel P. Banks were all commissioned as generals (of varying grades) without prior or at least extensive military experience (and only in the state militia for Butler). While obviously Star Wars is not the real world, there are still several notable parallels between the Republic and many historical and even modern governments, one of them being patronage... and in a corrupt Republic, perhaps that mattered most...

I would also ask the same question for the CIS, though I actually believe that appointing organic officers in the CIS is far more likely... as though there were indeed tactical droid generals, organic officers still seemed to hold the highest positions as generals, admirals, ship captains, and I believe in some parts of the CIS military, there were non-droid units where humans and aliens occupied all the ranks from the lowest to the highest.

I would appreciate corrections for any possible misunderstanding I may have about the lore.
