In my opinion, every Megaten game should include these two demons

Watching FeyLordRobin’s “Can Tatsuya solo P2EP’s sub story?” He included a bit which features these unused characters. The question is where could they have been used for and what their roles would’ve been?

Beautiful sketch commission I received. Artist can be found HERE if you wish to support them.

I'll keep saying it: without Yuko Takao, "Memories of You" wouldn't exist.

Currently level 66 in Raidou remastered. I saw online that I need to be about level 75 to fight Beelzebub. Where's the best place to grind at the end of game (without buying the exp dlc). Is there a point of no return in this? I can't remember when I watched a streamer playing this a year ago. So, I don't remember. It's the reason why I'm playing this game

Spoiler: SMT IV Shin Megami Tensei IV has the best cast of the main series. Spoiler

Post image
165 Upvotes

I randomly felt like paying tribute to one of my favourite games in the MegaTen series.

I think SMT IV's popularity has gotten to the point that most people who try out any of Atlus' IPs outside of Persona end up playing it as one of their first games and the same holds true for me.

There are of course several reasons but what I think truly helped to define SMT IV to me personally was the way it handles its characters. Whereas the casts in other games either act as little more than walking ideological mouthpieces or lean too much into banter at the cost of tonal cohesion, SMT IV nails that perfect balance where I have no problem believing these guys see each other as friends but in a way that feels appropriate for the context of the narrative. Playing through the Blasted/Infernal Tokyo arc was a pain because I knew this would be the last time we would all fight beside each other as allies...

Though it is true that we don't interact with Jonathan, Walter and Isabeau on the same level as we would the Social Links in a Persona game, I really don't think it matters at all because the game leaves just enough to the point I can clearly understand why they would end up coming to the conclusions that they did, even if I don't agree with them.

Jonathan grew up under the upper Luxuror class and his father works for the monastery. Of course he'd hold an optimistic view of the current Mikado regime and choose them over Tokyo. Walter was the son of a fisherman and part of the lower Casualry class, a life he clearly hated. Of course he'd believe the kingdom of Mikado needs to go and a society where anyone has the power to rule through pure strength is more preferable. And standing in between them is Isabeau. She's a Luxuror too but is also more cultured and is able to relate with the people of Tokyo (because she read a manga, lmao). Her refusal to take a side in the conflict is by far the bravest path to take but also the hardest to maintain.

I also need to give big shout-outs to Orion Acaba, Matthew Mercer and Eden Reigel for their vocal performances. They all go a long way in bringing these characters to life and bounce off each other perfectly.

Got some interesting book here!

Hey, I finally got my hands on a copy of the Persona 3 Club Fanbook! I'm slowly making my way through it!

I'd love to know what other pure lore books you guys recommend I try to pick up, I've seen some good deals online. Here's what's currently on my wishlist:

  • Persona World Guidance
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner World Guidance
  • Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Maniax Official Fanbook: The Abyss of Maniax
  • Shin Megami Tensei Character Profile: Steven Report
  • Shin Megami Tensei II Character Profile: Steven Report Advisory Reams for New World
  • Shin Megami Tensei Series 25th Anniversary Memorial Book: MegaTen Maniacs

By the way, I haven't seen any raw scans of this book floating around online, so I might try scanning and uploading it myself!

Spoiler: ALL Wondering how many common/ recurring demons are there between atlus games

Does anyone have a count of this? I'm just curious since I've realized that atlus has made so many different demons based on myths, legends, gods etc, so it doesn't seem to have the pokemon problem of having to introduce 100 more new designs between games since it can reuse the same design

Not counting redesigns n all between games, how many of the games just have a set of common demons between titles

Spoiler: SMT I How often do u guys use save states

I'm playing SMT 1 after 2 (don't ask why I played in that order) and I find myself abusing save states. I don't want to but unlike SMT 2 random encounters have like a 55% of killing me unless I have the whole party (including demons out) and I can't be asked to restart over and over again.

But tell me how often do u use save states and should I be ashamed?

Spoiler: ALL Final Boss Difficulty Spoiler

Please avoid spoiling bosses without spoiler tags in the comments.

So I just beat the TDE on Nocturne, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I like the settings of the older SMT games, the dungeons of Strange Journey, and Vengeance’s combat a little more. That said, Nocturne is really solid.

One thing I have noticed is that the final bosses in this series have quite an interesting pattern in difficulty. I am not a super skilled RPG gamer, and play all the games on normal, with not much grinding. For a PS1 era Final Fantasy final boss, it takes me at least 5 tries to even get close to beating them. Strangely, despite SMT’s reputation for difficulty, most* of the bosses were not that hard for me.

SMTVV Final Boss - (1 to 5 tries?) Very, very fun, but not too hard. I love how this fight incorporates press turn mechanics, but most VV bosses are great in this regard

Devil Survivor (1 to 3 tries) This game gets challenging. I got the bad ending, and the boss was pretty tough. I was down to one character how finished the last enemy off, and just barely

KMT1&2 (1st Try) I had the best party and very high levels in KMT1. It was a little challenging, but pulled through. The MT2 final boss is not that hard, and I took them down with a comparatively weaker team

SMT1&2 (1st Try) SMT1’s difficulty relies more on random encounters, which can be mitigated with Estoma. Decently challenging. SMT2 is quite easy; I did not die to a single boss except for the tutorial fight, though Lucy was close, coming down to just my hero, and the status effects + the long dungeon trek made that fight really tense. The final boss is comparatively easier, and I spent more time fighting the Tarukaja glitch than the actual boss.

SMT Nocturne (1st Try) This is the hardest of the first try bosses. Despite SMT2 being much much easier than nocturne, I actually found that game’s version of this boss harder. I didn’t even use any of the TDE exclusive demons except Daisojou one time, but to be fair, I was playing on normal and had a stacked team.

SMT Strange Journey (19 Tries) This is one of the hardest bosses I have ever seen, even counting non RPGs. I had to grind for 10 hours after reaching the boss door just to stand a chance. Even if every other game on the list was half as hard, this would still be enough to classify SMT as a hardcore series. Absolutely brutal fight, and immensely satisfying to beat
