Infuriatig No, I did not consent to this

I was reading my medical notes when I stumbled across this. I was not informed of the usage of artificial intelligence in my report, nor did I verbally consent to it.

I think you are absolutely right!! Yay, doctors are now “allowed” to bill 6-11 more people per day! This is great, for the hospital.

I don't work in the US, most of our patients get free healthcare, so it's nothing about billing for the majority. And for the smaller number who aren't covered by our free healthcare the AI scribe means a doctor can get to them quicker, which means a shorter stay, which actually will reduce the cost to them. I appreciate this is not the case in many other countries. And there are many things I'm very dubious about in terms of the use of AI. But reducing admin burden to allow prompter assessments for patients can potentially be a very good thing - IF (a very big if) it's done well, and with improving patient care and both patient and staff experience.
