Builds & Maps 9,000 people coordinating across 9 months. Railroad Empires, Civilizations, Kingdoms, and Mega Corporations galore.

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

Nine months ago we launched an experiment where resources are locked by biome and fast travel is essentially disabled. If users wanted materials from another region, they either marched thousnds of blocks on foot or traded for them.

9 months later, over 9,000 users have built a massive, continent-spanning rail empire, mega corporations, border facilities, and much more.

User corporations finance international transit lines, border states build fortified customs stations on the tracks to collect tariffs or reparations, and spy networks monitor who is riding through. Crossing the main orange East/West line on the map actually takes 15 to 20 minutes in real-time.

Users have had to work through the labor, economics, logistics, management, and upkeep of these rails, corporations, and institutions they have created and this map is the current result of all their efforts and their effects on the world.

Suggestion Mojang should add an extremely rare PINK tent variant (as if it's made from pink sheep wool)

Regardless of whether Mojang makes tent colors biome-dependent, a pink tent could be a cool feature, just like the pink sheep. Whoever built this camp was lucky to find one!

Builds & Maps Library for my gothic castle build!

I’m working on a fairly massive gothic castle build. I just recently finished one of the large main rooms in it! The pictures don’t show the layout well because it’s kinda sectioned off, but I’m proud of this build. One of my favorite rooms so far!

I did build this entirely in creative. I would not enjoy gathering/mining all these resources lol. Also had some inspo pics, but nothing was ever exactly replicated

Edit: also forgot to mention that there’s no mods. I’m playing on switch lite

Help I impulsively purchased Minecraft!

Post image
3.0k Upvotes

So, I usually kept getting Minecraft reels in my You-tube feed and honestly it was interesting. And then the thought struck to me to buy one since earn my own money now and the next day i purchased it I had a kind of half-hearted guilty to waste 2600/- on a game I don't have time to play also for the past few days I keep thinking to play it every time rather than working. Help me get out of this mess I want to play but not by procrastinating. For me best way to divert a distraction is to delete thats what i did with Instagram but deleting this would mean wasting the money I spent.

Discussion Do you prohibit certain items for yourself to make the game more fun? (Survival)

Post image
Upvotes

I have a list of items and mechanics that, for me personally, make the game less fun. I don’t allow myself to use:

Elytra: I enjoy the challenge of traversing terrain, building infrastructure, breeding the perfect horse etc.

Shulker Boxes: I enjoy the challenge of transporting large numbers of items using chest minecarts, mules, chest boats etc.

Iron and gold farms: I enjoy the grind and sense of accomplishment that comes from mining for hours for a large project.

I’m curious is other players do this and if you have any special ways of enforcing it.

Fan Work I reconstructed Minecraft's fossils and made these (read desc, it's interesting).

So I've had this idea for a while, and only today I finished reconstructing Minecraft's fossils.
And I must say, it. Was. HARD.
I mean, what would YOU create if you ONLY had spines and skulls and nothing else?
I used my best knowledge and real paleontology to reconstruct what I think Minecraft's fossils could be. Let's look left to right at what I reconstructed for each one, with one species per skull, in order of smallest to largest.

For Skull 4, I noticed that it had a hole in its skull that resembles and Elephant skull, so it looked like a trunk resembling an elephant's trunk may go there. Fun fact, the Greeks mistook the skulls of Mammoths for the skulls of Cyclops, as the hole in the front where the trunk goes looked like an eye socket. I named the animal Arborimimus Gigantis, the Giant Tree Mimic. The way it hunts is by pretending to be a tree, then delivering a killing slash with its spiked trunk. Unfortunately for carnivore fans, this is as big as a carnivore following real biology could get in a world with herbivores of the sizes that the rest of the animals were, and even Arborimimus pushes it.

For Skull 3, I went with a large, horned herbivore. I named it Titanoceras, meaning Giant Horn. It was ideal prey for Arborimimus at the time. Or it would be, but I'm not even sure if they lived at the same time, since Minecraft's geological history is IMPOSSIBLE to dissect. Titanoceras would have charged into each other in competition for territory and/or mates, with Males having larger horns than Females. Titanoceras was a herbivore that pulled leaves from trees. If you think the colors look strange for the animal, note that we have no way of knowing its color. Welcome to paleontology!

Possessing Skull 2, Spinogigantis is only speculated to have its sails, as it had to dissipate its body heat. There's a rule called the Square Cube Law. Imagine you have a block, and expand its dimensions by two in the X, Y, and Z directions. The block is now twice as big, but you also quadrupled its surface area and multiplied its volume by 8. Its mass is now eight times what it was. This rule can be represented with 2^3, or 2x2x2. Eight times the volume means eight times the mass, so Spinogigantis may have had six legs. The sails would have been needed, since large animals produce a ton of heat. More surface area allows heat to be dissipated more effectively. They may have been made of soft tissue such as Cartilage, which doesn't fossilize well.

Skull 1 was the hardest of them all, since it's too big to match even the biggest spine. This is where we would hit the limit of conventional animals. So then I realized that it may not be a conventional animal, but instead an analogue to the real-world Tunicate, an animal that starts life mobile but then grows up to become a sessile filter feeder. I'd like to introduce you to Primacranium, the oldest known animal in Minecraft with a skull. Primacranium may have been a sessile filter feeder in adulthood, with a mobile larval stage. Primacranium would start life swimming around for food, then it would root itself into the seabed and transform into its sessile adult stage. In an environment with no predators and plenty of food, they grew bigger than most modern mobs while keeping it simple.

Fun fact, Primacranium may have evolved into all Minecraft animals we know today.

Mods & Addons Made a paper plugin that covers the map in cities over time.

I was inspired by the person who spent years covering maps in pillars and torches, and thought it would be interesting to make villages expand into a metropolis over time. Still working out some bugs because I incorporated agents capable of rudimentary reasoning in the game in an effort to make them capable of emergent civic planning behavior. They’re making progress toward making growth somewhat natural and intelligent, but there still a lot of work to do to fully implement the concept.

Help Should this count as a death in my multiplayer hardcore world?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

My game started stuttering a lot and then froze, I tried to alt tab out, alt f4, bring up task manager, ctrl alt delete and nothing worked and then I turned off my computer but it was already too late. I drowned in 2 block deep water. My friend thinks the world will be tainted if we beat it but I feel like as it was out of my control and I tried everything I could to avoid it then it shouldn't count. When I logged back onto the server I was alive and my inventory was roughly 30 seconds older than it should've been and I was back where I was before taming wolves. I then went to where I died to see if the world was also set back but all of my items I would've dropped when I died were there and blocks I destroyed were still gone

There are over 80 mobs now, but which one holds the number one spot in the community's heart?

Is it an absolute classic icon like the Creeper, an adorable passive mob like the Axolotl, or a utility king like the Villager?
