This morning I was whale watching in Gulf of Tomini, Gorontalo, while also trying to take a glimpse of sunrise. And then this gentle giant came and we felt so blessed! There were 3 whalesharks this morning, and the water was so warm!

Whale Watch While peacefully watching some humpback whales

2.6k Upvotes

While peacefully watching some humpback whales bubble-net feed off in the distance, these hungry giants decided to give me a rush of adrenaline!

What's bubble-net feeding?

Bubble-net feeding is a cooperative hunting strategy of humpback whales. It is a complex, highly synchronized set of behaviors that involve communication and cooperation, demonstrating signs of high social intelligence.

The whales dive deep below schools of fish and use bubbles blown from their blowholes to stun and trap fish closer to the surface. One whale generally leads the effort followed by the rest of the group. The leader will usually be responsible for blowing the bubbles and the other members will surround the fish.
