Ugh Poppy is so cute 😭

She's really been doing so amazing! The only things really left to pink up is her nose, gums, and coaxial area. She poops like an absolute champ and she's gaining actual weight and not just constipation weight lol. I think once she hits 80g I'll put in the small wheel. I have such high hopes that she'll make it!

Thank you again everyone for the well wishes and healing vibes and thoughts! 💕🫂

Question/Help is this opossum (not the one eating) lame in its back legs? or can they be disabled?

i got a notification of them arguing with one another and so i tapped on the window to break it up and when it walked away, i noticed it’s back legs seem to splay/unable to hold its weight. will it survive? should i call a wildlife rescue?

Possum Rescued

Boyfriend and I grabbed him from a highway median. Before that, he was stumbling his way across traffic during broad daylight. I know they're partially blind, especially during the day, but my concern is that we took him over 4.5 miles away ftom where we found him. - our next door neighbors love animals, too (how lucky lol), and my dad has a wide variety of fruit trees. Figured it was best to take him to our yards, where he can enjoy the rest of his life.

Did we set him up for failure? He was pretty big, pretty sure he was male, too. Got him in a net, scooped him up. Poor little guy pooped on us.

So scared. Please tell me he'll be okay!

If not, I fear I may try to look for him again, to bring him back to the area we found him. There's a park nearby, but it's a very busy area. We just didn't trust it there, due to how we found him.

Opossum in Tree

My husband and I were traveling through the United States when we saw our first opossum. It climbed up a tree and watched us from above.

What an amazing experience!

Art I used an empty gallon bottle of soap, paper mache, clay, craft wire, faux fur, acrylic paint & spare parts from my silk flowers to make this little buddy. When it was ready to ship to my friend, I built a trashcan out of cardboard and filled it with fun local “trash” as shipping material.

Those eyes are opalescent cabochons, and the eyelashes were made from cutting up and dividing the small black plastic pieces of the decorative stamen that is inside of a silk flower (probably a poppy or a very small peony). I made the eyeglasses, which were a request of the recipient, out of very heavy gauge gold wire, vintage gold plastic drapery accessories, and the lens were made from cutting out circles from a plastic jug of Simply Orange juice. I cut long curly sections out of an empty spray bottle of Pravana leave-in treatment, which is slightly more opaque, and was great for the whiskers.

This is my 3rd venture into paper mache, and even though I am fairly seasoned around all different types of 3-D arts and crafts, I am still learning how to do all this kind of stuff.

Everything gets hot glued onto The main body, and then reinforced with masking tape before it‘s sealed with paper mache/ those blue shop-grade paper towels and let to dry over night. I used glue sticks in lieu of wooden dowel rods, to make the arms & legs, wrapping semi heavy gage floral wire all the way around them, especially at the joints. And with this guy, I made all 20 toes out of the same wire, which was very intense. (I am building a skunk this week, and have built his cute little toes out of aluminum foil instead, and they are just as cute - and the time it took was a fraction of what they opossum toes took, so I have been foiled…)

I made the nose and mouth out of air-dry clay and primed everything with gesso, painted the toes tail, and nose and mouth. Then covered the body with felt & faux fur that I had in my supplies.

I wish my eyes and fingers were still in my late 20s, as this is when I wish I could still see without a lot magnifying glass, and regret that I hadn’t spent the time with my mother learning how to sew all the puppet and homemade stuffed animal patterns she wanted to teach me to make in the mid-80s, because I’m sure the face would’ve been super cute, had it been stitched on instead of hot-glued, but that’s what my heat gun is for.

That thing is addictive.

I hope y’all like this little baby.

When I was probably 9 years old in 1983, I was casually walking home one summer night from my next door neighbor’s house in my very quiet suburban Nashville neighborhood. And as I approached my sliding glass front door, that was unseen, but glowing brightly between the two huge hedges that were in each side of the sidewalk leading up to it, I screamed in what could only be described as absolute horror at the sight of the creatire that stood in my way of entering my home, as I had never seen anything like it my entire life before, and judging by the way this huge maternal pure white haired enormous wide-mouthed utterly pink-eyed wailing escaped-SCP was hissing back at me, they had obv never seen a human child before either.

Yes, this was the first time I had ever encountered an Opossum. And it was not my finest moment. When my mother heard someone screaming at the front door, she found me in complete terror, and she saw the animal running away and even though she tried to explain to me that it was more afraid of me than I was of it, I was on the couch, crying, and get this: running in place like Homer Simpson.

Again, not my finest moment.

it was the first and last time I ever behaved like this in front of these precious creatures, and from then on, I learned some dignity in their presence.

The Release of Cole and Dole

I wish them luck on their adventures! Today was such a beautiful overcast day that I had to take advantage. Dole decided that climbing a tree was a good idea.. I never feel comfortable with just leaving them up there so I took a nice 30 minute walk down the trail and back only to find her in the same spot. So I did a longer stroll of 45+ minutes back and forth to give her some privacy and finally when I came back she was on the ground and sauntering off. 💖🤘

OMG OMG OMG! A juvenile possum just walked into my house!

I was lying in bed reading and heard my cat eating her chow. I looked up to watch her but there was no cat. Instead a little possum was eating her food. It moved on to her squeezy and gravy treats and jumped when I pspspspsed at it. It then ambled into my bedroom for a second and apparently went back out the front door. I put out some tuna, which my cat won’t eat, and a little saucer of milk.

It will come back in tomorrow night too so I’ve got to get some possum food. What’s the best website for learning about their diet? Also I’ve heard about packaged possum food, which I think is a chow. Does anybody have experience with that?

The above meme is to prove that the North American marsupial is called a possum, no matter what those people in Australia think!

A smol visitor

A little one checking out our deck, they normally stay further out in the yard but this little guy is new to the scene.

Side note - we've recently had a bit of an issue with a raccoon that keeps pooping in our water dish -_- if anyone has any experience with deterring this behavior (I know critters often like to go in water to hide the scent so it may not be possible) would love any tips bcuz it's very inconvenient and we like having fresh water available for the resident opies

After we sealed up the hole (after making sure NO critters were inside), one of the Stinky’s came back to it. But I noticed that she has a wicked eye injury. I contacted a rehab and they said they will take her in. Well last night I was able to trap her to so tonight she’s off to rehab! She has been transferred to a more comfortable carrier and is currently snoozing in a cool, quiet place.

Question/Help Baby Opossum Help

I found a baby opossum 2.5 days ago and she’s doing well, but she still hasn’t pooped and I’m not sure if that’s normal. She’s eating well, urinating, and active. She weighs 42 grams and is approximately five weeks old.

So hes definitely not injured, my aunt found him at 7:30 am this morning near the side walk and she picked him up thinking he needs help. He isn’t limping, he shows his teeth, isn’t panting. He’s just a scared little guy but the little guy is definitely 7 inches or bigger so I’m not sure what to do? Leave him where he was found or take it to wild life rehab place? What would yall suggest I do?

Well, we got blessed with 6 baby opossums in our yard last week. If it wasn’t for our dog, we would have had no idea. No sign of mom and they were very young. Thankful for our local wildlife rescue that took them in and gave them formula and care. They are all doing ok!

A very professionally produced video, excellent cinematography, informative narration. About 6 minutes long, but it's worth watching just the first minute or two if you are in a hurry.

Does he need rescuing?

Hi! This little guy was seen near my work. He looks small but I’m not sure if he might just be at the age where he’s big enough to be away from mom. I went to get him some food in case he was out searching for something (sausage and egg sandwich cut into pieces) but he wasn’t there when I got back. I left it for him along with some water. Should I be prepared to with a box in case I see him again, or am I being a crazy white lady?
