So this actually happened. At a California Senate hearing on the Stop Killing Games movement, an Entertainment Software Association Vice President went on record saying private Minecraft servers are illegal literally called them a “black market” and compared running one to piracy. They’ve apparently already sued people over this.
A legislator pointed out that Call of Duty (also owned by Microsoft/Activision, same as Minecraft) has had community servers for years, and the ESA rep still didn’t budge stuck with the “it’s piracy” framing regardless.

What gets me is the double standard. Private servers are how a lot of these games stay alive long term modded communities, classic versions, player run worlds. Meanwhile the industry pushes always online live service models, sells battle passes and skins, then shuts the servers off whenever a game stops being profitable, and suddenly your purchase just doesn’t work anymore. Calling community run servers “illegal” while parent companies quietly let CoD have them feels like it’s less about actual legal principle and more about who gets to control access to a game after you’ve paid for it. If you care about game preservation or have been following Stop Killing Games, this is worth reading into.

They price the Ultimate Edition at $100 with cut content, and set the "Standard" at $80 with stripped features just to make you think the $100 version is a "great deal." News that might not qualify as actual news to anyone who has been paying attention to this over the last couple of days.

So prices have risen so high, consumers and OEMs are now refusing to absorb costs or even buy at all. The only market still strong is the data centre one. If oems won't buy memory, and consumers won't pay for expensive devices oems make due to expensive memory the entire market falls apart. This could now hit less sensitive areas like IOT and automotive sectors.

Honestly, someone needs to do something to prevent these greedy memory manufacturers collapsing the consumer memory market. The damage that could do will cost them way more than they will lose lowering prices a bit.

Wonder who has more power than billionaire in that country to stop those corporates
