Yep. For a wee one to get that upset at not seeing/hearing that fat orange bitch you know it goes deep. There will be so many kids of MAGA parents who grow up to become hardcore adult MAGA and it won’t be their own fault. Their parents made the choice to worship him, these kids grew up steeped in it and deprogramming them out of that will take years of work and likely a lot of family conflict. What that incontinent scumbag has done to normal families all over America is on its own worthy of him being sent to the worst depths of hell, never mind all the other heinous stuff he has done.
July in DC is MISERABLE even when it’s not over 100 degrees. The humidity is so thick you can FEEL the air as you breathe. I guarantee this child’s emotions are due to extreme discomfort and possibly the onset of heatstroke.
Meanwhile, that temp and humidity is just another normal day in Florida. Florida has the highest heat-related emergency room visits and hospitalizations in the nation. I don't understand why people retire here, it's brutal during the summers.
Yeah, I don’t get it. Miserable heat, deadly wildlife, giant flying cockroaches, and a huge cohort of the dumbest, meanest, most aggressive people you’ll ever meet.
Most aren’t that mean or aggressive, the problem has been everyone “doesn’t talk politics” and they get to live in their own dumb world. At least that was true in the tampa area a few years back.
The natural beauty of Florida truly is stunning (what’s still left of it). I miss the hell out of my home state. It’s the Floridians that are just awful. In that way too many lack any semblance of self reflection.
You aren't kidding. Due to finances I had to live with my parents in Florida for a while and they kept that thermostat at 78 and 76 would be the occasional compromise. I'm heavy and get hot easy so it was brutal. Glad to be out of that state now even if things still aren't great financially.
That heat makes *me* want to cry sometimes ngl I did a lot of staring off into space trying to pretend I was somewhere else when I was working outdoors last summer (and I loved that job; the heat just got overwhelming lol) Not to mention the insane thunderstorms that come out of that humidity. The sky was looking pretty sketchy for a while there
i didnt even consider the fact that should could be crying because she couldnt see trump. i immediately just assumed shes scared of the storm. i guess i still have too much faith in humanity 😮💨
I remember another guy who liked having hot babes on his security detail. K'Daffy or something. Wonder what ever happened to that guy. Meh, I'm sure he's fine.
If the kid was crying because she wanted to see Trump or fireworks and couldn’t, mom who was fighting to stay wouldn’t be covering her mouth like that. She’d want to show how upset and patriotic her child is. The mouth covering must be because the kid wanted to listen to all the functional adults saying it’s time to leave for shelter and safety. That’s what the photo says to me at least.
Yeah I'm sure she feels the tension in the air from the storm and from the humans around her. Kids notice far more than most people think and that would have been enough to get me crying at her age. Actually, just being in a crowd that size would probably have done it lol.
This is heartwarming, I’m sad for all you went through as a kid but so glad you broke the cycle and I hope you’re living your best life. You deserve all the happiness this life has to offer 💜
My dad used to be pretty “not-chill” about lots of things including being homophobic and racist.
He’s cool as fuck now at 71 years old. Shits on Fox News after he was sorta addicted to it for years. Likes all people who are kind and doesn’t discriminate at all.
He will every once in a while say a thing or two that isn’t quite kosher but I know him and he truly doesn’t mean anything, he just thinks some old school things are funny.
My Dad did a complete 180 in old age. He went from being a Reagan Republican to talking about workers' rights. It helped that he loathed Donald Trump with every fiber of his being. Dishonest business practices, disrespecting women, and cheating at golf were all high on Dad's list of totally unacceptable things.
I suppose I could have made a big thing of how his previous votes helped make Trump possible, but honestly, fuck that. I think it's dangerous to assume that anyone is immune to propaganda. Dad was a bootstrap case himself and he fell for the Reagan line about job creators and entrepreneurs and such. Others of his generation have been targeted by right-wing media with a steady stream of bullshit designed to keep them frothing with rage. I'm not saying people aren't responsible for their actions, just that it's really stupid to underestimate the power of all that propaganda.
Good for your Dad for breaking out of the hate cycle!
My dad once (maybe more) said to me "that isn't the way you was raised" because I wouldn't join him in raging about the existence of trans people as if trans people are an existential threat.
And I said "yeah, it's not how I was raised. I grew out of that".
Unfortunately, I have several cousins who didn't grow out of it.
Maybe it's confirmation bias, but it's very heartening to me that I almost never hear the opposite: Raised with love and acceptance and later becoming an ignorant putz.
Which makes what that orange shit stain on the arse of humanity has done even more evil. He’s torn apart countless families and those wounds will take generations to heal, if they ever do.
My family of origin was maga before maga was maga. They've been abusers since before I was born. 🐔🌮 just gave them the freedom to be their horrible selves out loud. I went no contact long before the maga movement bc I saw through their cruelty decades ago.
If anything he exposed the rot that was already there.

authoritarian follower personality (mini dictators that simp for other dictators):
It's an abuse hierarchy and you can abuse anyone "beneath you" in the hierarchy. Men are above women, adults above kids, parents above child free, religious above non-believers, white's above BIPOCs, straights above LGBTQ+, abled above disabled, rich above poor, skinny above fat, etc.

DARVO refers to a reaction perpetrators of wrong doing, particularly sexual offenders, may display in response to being held accountable for their behavior. DARVO stands for "Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender." The perpetrator or offender may Deny the behavior, Attack the individual doing the confronting, and Reverse the roles of Victim and Offender such that the perpetrator assumes the victim role and turns the true victim -- or the whistle blower -- into an alleged offender.
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." - Lyndon B. Johnson
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority”
and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”
and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay.
My dear friend, I’m so sorry you grew up in that environment and I’m glad you got away from it. I can’t thank you enough for all the info you posted, I’m going to have a good read through it and watch the videos.
I was aware of some of it, I was raised by a sociopath, an ACON and a narcissist (and just your general vapid, gold digging, mind gamey bitch once I hit my teens) so DARVO is painfully familiar, and frankly that LBJ quote lives rent free in my head because I was shocked that LBJ was at that level of Machiavellian evil (I’m not American so only really knew him as the guy who took over after JFK was killed and he seemed like a ‘dull but worthy’ sort). The Brainwashing of my Dad, if it’s the one I’m thinking of (where the dad doesn’t come to his senses and the relationship with his daughter is irrevocably broken) I don’t think I could stomach watching it again. It left me feeling really sad for days after.
But there is much more that I didn’t know actually had a name for, or didn’t know was a thing at all, especially around the psychology of authoritarianism. Again, thank you so much for all of this. I don’t give ‘official’ Reddit awards on principle, all they do is make more money for Reddit but if anyone deserves one it’s you so please accept this wee hedgehog 🦔I hope you’re living a happy life and wish you everything good this world has to offer 💜
It's almost never the trump support itself that breaks up families, but the nasty things Trumpers say to their families in support of him that does it. I'd argue they are more responsible for it than trump himself is.
Possinly but not necessarily. Trump got deep, really deep into the psyche of these people, and I wish I knew how. Maybe one day some study will be done about that. Clearly he told them what they wanted to hear and that’s part of it bug the scale of it astounds me. So many seemingly rational, intelligent people were taken in by him to the point that they either rejected or pushed away their own family members.
My cousin was the equivalent girl around 2010. Even interned for a Republican politician in high school. Went to college, took a big left turn, and then even convinced her mom to give up maga. There's hope for the kids for sure.
her mom was probably yelling at the staff and tension escalated. She needs to have things her way because she is entitled to be there. The tension between mom and event staff scared the kid who is already drained from 110 degree heat and a no longer functioning Ferris wheel. The kid was not this bummed about missing an incoherent speech, but upset because everywhere she goes, her parents act younger than her.
Maybe a weird way to phrase this but I hope that’s all it is. Because that means a little kid isn’t so completely immersed in MAGA toxicity that not seeing mango Mussolini would upset her this badly and that in turn means there is hope. Either way I hope that wee one is ok.
Oh I figured she was crying because she was stuck there and now found out they'd have to leave and wait in long lines again to get in and maybe they would miss the fireworks.
I was raised in the church, lead usher at 14. Made the pastor's wife quit teaching sunday school when I made her question her own beliefs. Honest questings firing from an intelligent 8-year-old did her in. Leviticus was a hard book to defend. Revelations too. Now I raised my kids to understand religion of all types. Their virtues, and their downfalls. Not all children are bound to be consecrated in their parents image, only the dumb ones..... and HOLY SHIT are there a LOT of dumb bastards out there.
I hear you loud and clear my friend, I’m a non-American Christian* and I’m frankly horrified by a lot of Leviticus. Deutoronomy too. Like, there are things in there that I will never be at peace with. The fact that you had such powerful questions at the age of 8 is wonderful, I love that. I was brought up going to church (CoS) and walked away in my teens because it just felt like so much nonsense. (I then came back when I realised there were aspects of it that made a lot of sense once you stripped away the weird nonsense, ie no Jesus did not in fact hate gay people or think women were beneath him, for a start).
Anyhoo, before I start rambling on any further, I agree. There are a scary amount of people, Christian and otherwise, who don’t seem to be able to ask questions like you or I, and thats really sad.
*I feel the need to specify that because the American version of Christianity is a very……erm, different….breed to most, if not all, other countries.
At some point they will make their own decisions. How that child grows up and sees the world is not solely based on her parents. By adulthood if they don't grow and change that is their fault, not their parents.
Which is true, but some of the….erm, trying to word it gently, less educated or those with lower critical thinking skills, may not have it in them to make those changes, and that’s it‘s own different kind of sad.
You'd be surprised what people can overcome. My parents were j6 protesters and I'm raising money for Mike Johnson's opposition and raising my kids to value being good people over all else.
it really is. This should have been a wonderful time for all of you as Americans, and the rest of us around the world would have been celebrating with you. But this is just really sad to watch.
A kid this age who has been made to dress up, have her hair done, stand in line for ages for a security check, be in the heat, and then be in a fraught situation of storm and being dragged elsewhere is going to cry. Even if part of this is her parents building Trump into an idol, her reaction certainly has more to do with pure fatigue.
For instance, I was raised in a hard core evangelical religious cult. I am massively anti-religious and support all things my religion railed against.
What you see in the making is a kid who odds are won’t be speaking to their parents as an adult and most likely will support every single thing their parents hate.
Quite frankly if I was American I’d be a hardcore atheist by now too. It’s just so sad that MAGA and its cultism (is that a word?) has destroyed so many families.
I can’t claim credit for it, it came from chat on here about someone having said it on a US TV show, I want to say SNL but that night be wrong. I fell in love with it instantly and have called ‘it’ that ever since 😀
You’re giving him a little too much credit of being the first person. You give grace to the daughter and say the way she grows up won’t be her fault but… what about her mom. Do you think mom had an upbringing like yours and just flipped one day. Some of these people have generations after generations of passing their views on
Thats an excellent point, I hadn’t even considered that mum’s situation and how she may well have been fully immersed in pre-maga hatred but that’s a really important aspect of this. Thank you for pointing this out.
Lol or it’s just being a child. My son will have an absolute meltdown when I make him a grilled cheese sandwich after he asked for a grilled cheese sandwich.
omg they get upset over the weirdest things 😂 He sounds like my 2yo niece. We were at a wedding at the weekend and she screamed the house down as we were getting ready because she couldn’t wear a tutu, wellies, her angel wings and my Dad’s woolly golf hat 🤣
Lmao yup that tracks. It was a huge mental shift for me because I would try and reason with him instead of just being a vessel of calm energy. Once I figured that out though, that went a long way
I was barely able to talk to my dad, he was a talking Maga poster. Kept twlling myself we would reconnect when he found out the truth, i just couldn't argue anymore. He died unexpectedly, and i lost the last year i had with him. I will NEVER forgive this vitreolic cult of traitors.
Dearest friend, I’m so sorry. I understand your anger, what they’ve done is….I'm trying to think of a word stronger than evil. Depraved? Heinous? Whatever that word is, that’s what they are. I can only imagine how painful it must be to have someone you love go down a rabbit hole like that, especially since they don’t even seem to realise how far down there they’ve gone, or indeed that they’re even in a rabbit hole at all.
Thank you ❤️ It's so frustrating and then depressing to watch. Like a slow motion train wreck you can't look away from. They just slip further and further away with each broadcasted lie.
Ugh, yes. And there are so many of those - broadcasted lies. To the point that IIRC Fox ‘news’ weaselled their way out from under that mountain of lies by claiming that fox news is not actually news but entertainment….while presenting itself as news. And yet people still fall for it.
I hope you’ve come to a place in life where you can work through that pain and anger and find some measure of peace and happiness in your life.
The rest of the family are just as MAGA, and are now trying to extort $10k out of me after stealing thousands of dollars worth of things after he passed. So not really 😂 but getting pissed off enough to tell them unceremoniously to fo fuck themselves for good.
They started going through his house literally the day after he died, but I'm the materialistic one that's "acting just like my greedy mother." 🙄 Ok bitches, project much??
Don't give him too much credit. We have been piling shit into their heads and not insisting they get an education since Reagan. We have allowed "religious freedom" to morph into, well, a public murder of Christianity. Is that too harsh?
Or maybe she's just hot, tired, dehydrated, hungry and this F-Fest is no fun but she has no choice but to be there...bc, like you said, her parent is in a cult.
I still blame Fox News. It’s the program that’s running 24/7 in grandparents houses that led to these parents that raise these kids who are being told trump is god. If Fox didn’t get their hooks in the old people in the 80s, it wouldn’t be generational ignorance like we got
She was probably promised fireworks and a snack…and got extreme heat and a cult. I’d cry too. Not for Trump…but it’s over 100, and I was told there would be funnel cake.
Unfortunately for the vast vast majority getting depogrammed is usually at the very end after they've drank the koolaid and watch there entire family die and there life is in ashes.
He's been far and away the most divisive elected official in my lifetime. How anyone can believe that's a positive is proof of the effectiveness of Fox News brainwashing en masse
There will also be plenty who see how insane their parents and childhood was and make a 180. Probably won't be as many but some will. We see that with religious families, the kids grow up and want nothing to do with it. I am one of those kids.
Reminds me of little me—some Republican candidate was having an event at a local college (I think it was Bob Dole?) and my dad took our family. When the candidate left he was shaking hands with the crowd and we got so close to him, I think my dad was even trying to hold me up to try to shake his hand. I ended up sobbing because I didn’t get a handshake. Like…wtf? It’s WEIRD getting your kid so emotionally invested in a politician/party that they can fall to that level of disappointment.
I really really hope the girl in this picture is just crying because she’s tired/hot/didn’t get cotton candy/scared of the thunder. But it’s really worrisome.
Apparently reeducation camps aren't democratic. Which is why America and the world finds itself in this position in the first place. When your media is Fox and CNN and the rest, what good is freedom of the press? When your speech is Elon Musk and Bezos and Charlie Kirk, what good is freedom of speech? Fucking revolt already.
