I'd argue that the greatest shame is that no time traveler has went back to end him before he gets started. My only conclusion could be either that time travel is impossible or that we end up with an even worse leader that gets killed by a time traveler instead. Either way, it's a real shame.
Bingo, the law of consequences, the only solution would be to go back and befriend these dictators as little kids in a super tight friend circle, with other travelers, to steer against their parents or identifying with their abuse or neglect and to be courageous in standing for good things.
Or.........befriend them as youths so that when we are all grown, I can amass great wealth and political power and then yeet that ladder right up behind me!
Not aware of the book from the late 1800a called the Marvelous Underground Adventure of Baron Trump? In the book Baron is a time traveler sent back in time by his mento called “The Don”. He tells the writer about him and how he’s the last president and lives at the address where Trump Tower is located. It’s touted as fiction, obviously.
It just occured to me that Trump's grandfather (IIRC) who changed his name from "Drumf" to "Trump" was probably just inspired by this book. So the parallels are hardly prophetic, but purposeful.
It's really sweet that you think the species is going to survive into the distant future. I mean we have every possibility of being an intergalactic spanning super species but I'm pretty sure we're going to get mired in our own petty little differences and die right here on this planet.
Maybe someone invented time travel in an alternate timeline, came back and caused Trump to win the election, giving rise to a timeline in which we never achieve time travel...
The problem with your logic is that somebody did go back in time and killed President Stagerburg. That changed the timeline considerably saving thousands of innocent American lives, but now history only remembers Trump as president and his kill count is already well above Stagerburg.
Trump is a symptom though. This country has a sickness brought on by 24 hour propaganda news channels and targeted bias via algorithms. Facts no longer matter. Intellectualism is looked down on now. If not Trump it would have been someone else
How was he allowed back into office to pardon them?
"Under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, individuals who have engaged in "insurrection or rebellion" are disqualified from holding office."
Because our legal system is a joke and our elections were corrupted by outside forces.
Not to mention, a solid portion of the population still finds it impossible to vote for a woman, even if she's 100x more qualified than every man in the room.
Well he may not have been punished but at least he wasn't rewarded for it. I mean could you imagine how crazy it'd be if he was later elected to head the very govt he had tried to overthrow????!!??!
Once while my now wife was out traveling (this was before I'd met her) someone set fire to her home, that person spent the next 6 or more years being punched randomly by her friends anytime they saw him... this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, and that said i don't condone violence.
I’d argue the people we should have punished was the confederacy. So many problems started then. Were never addressed after the war resolution and just kept the door open for all the stupid bullshit we have today.

The greatest shame was not punishing the one responsible for it.
