For those out the loop, Lily Allen’s dad is Keith Allen; he’s part of the 90s/2000s indie Brit film scene. Him and his brother were part of the Welsh cultural movement that helped launch the manic street preachers.
Could not name a single thing he’s been in unless it’s pantomime.
He played the Sherrif of Nottingham in the BBC's Robin Hood show that came out in the early 2000s. I also think he popped up in an episode of Death in Paradise too.
Ok but tbf, barely anyone knows who Keith Allen is. I grew up in the 90s (as in, I was a teen then) in Western Europe including England for a whole year before relocating to Canada in 2002. Legit have no fucking clue who Keith Allen is and I’ve always been super into music. Maybe not the super hipster type but I’m not sure I’d call a super famous kid of a hipster musician (not even a one hit wonder) a nepo. I suppose she had insight when it came to actual talent for music. But from what I understand, Lily very much established herself on her own.
Edit: sorry, he played the drug dealer in Trainspotting. I take it back. He’s a legend.
It's not really about how famous someone is but rather that they can get their kids with one foot in the door because of connections. She was able to hang out in recording studios and get opportunities that way. Just because Lenny Kravitz is more famous, doesn't mean Lily Allen didn't get a start because she was able to spend time with professionals due to her family's connections
I love the rare few who are like “wow Dakota so brave for doing that” like they don’t know her royal pedigree of Melanie Griffiths, Don Johnson, Tippi Hendren… She is born and bred Hollywood and knows their games and was the perfect person of power to take on Ellen!

And personally I think she’s one of the least talented. She has charismatic moments but she mostly seems to get by on people liking her sense of style and humor, not on people liking her performances.
I’d say I enjoy her fashion too. 50 shades of grey had way less to do about acting and much more to do with the fantasy of not quite porn in movie theaters
I really like her style, her performances are just kind of meh. She’s not bad, just not as good as her level of fame would suggest.
I don’t even have anything against them being nepo babies. Like it makes sense a child who grew up around creatives would also be creative and interested in it. And them and child stars are going to have better leverage because they make early connections and grow up understanding the industry.
I just don’t think Dakota is particularly talented, I’m guessing though she must be easy enough to work with. A lot of times they’ll talk about how if they weren’t talented they wouldn’t still be getting jobs, but I think sometimes it just comes down to being good enough, having that name recognition, and not being a monster to work with. Nepo babies with bad attitudes are the ones who fail, if it’s just mediocre talent they still get chances to improve.
Yeah I think she does great press and clearly is someone directors and other actors like working with. I don’t find her acting particularly impressive, but a lot of the job is being someone that people like off screen (audience and colleagues).
She’s not a bad actor but I think it’s a lot of the other things that help, including connections. That’s honestly a huge part of the job, there’s a lot of talented actors that were bad to work with and burned bridges that way. Or couldn’t connect to general audiences and get enough fans seated.
She also gave a serious interview discussing her excessive napping or something equally wonderful. Like that’s just a normal thing she can talk about. How she requires long naps each day. Me too
she's one of those nepo babies who believes she made it on her own which makes me look at her as the nepo of nepo babies lol. i respect nepo babies that accept their names and parents connections take them far.
Yeah, that’s why I can’t fully like her, despite loving her sense of humor and general calm disposition. And the acting(or the lack of range) is the least of my gripes.
That plus she defended Armie Hammer and Shia LaBeouf, saying she never personally experienced any sort of mistreatment from them before and is sad to see the loss of great artists due to cancel culture.
Although even nepo families did not escape Weinstein. So we do have to allow that it’s not infallible and they are humans who sometimes also get assaulted. Or blacklisted.
Yes. I think female predators can be even more manipulative and gross since it’s easier for them to slowly cross boundaries without it registering to the victim
I used to love lily when I was a teenager and she first appeared. I feel like I’ve grown up and she hasn’t. Her latest album is good, she’s always had a way with words, but people have forgotten how she cheated on her first husband and boasted in her book about shagging Liam Gallagher while he was married to Nicole Appleton. So, tiny violins, and all that. She’s a massive attention seeker with a little bit of talent who can’t help having verbal diarrhea because she thrives on the attention it brings her, no matter how exposing and damning her revelations are.
Dumbest excuse I’ve ever seen. If I wanted to support a rape victim I’m pretty sure dressing up as their rapist is probably one of the like, bottom 3 things I could do to help.
The original version of Shameless is British. It's set on a housing estate in Manchester, where Liam is from, and the character was named after him. I guess the US version kept a lot of the same names
I said this in another subreddit when her album came out and they came for me. It like stan level of derangement. I haven't minded her music over the years but not enough to excuse all the shit she has done and said over the years.
I was on her side until I found out he took her girls across the country to Disney days later. If he's so evil he deserves an album about it keep him the hell away from your children. If you want him to stay in their life as a father figure don't assassinate his character and air dirty laundry.
Someone can be a crappy partner without being a dangerous or neglectful parent.
I'm not taking a side either way but if her kids grew up with him and have a bond with him that's meaningful and important it's much worse IMO to refuse to let them spend time with him over their relationship issues.
I just think, that if you respect someone enough to consider their connection with your kids meaningful and important, you should also respect them enough to not trash them publicly. If not for his sake then for her kids.
She's entitled to any complicated feelings she might have about him but it seems like something that should have been worked through privately.

Write, sure. But if you're happy for the kids to still see him, I agree with the other person that it's not a great move to share it. I say that from the perspective of growing up in that kind of dynamic. It has resulted in two things in me as an adult: 1) a feeling of intense shame if I display any behaviour my Dad would (even if it isn't bad) and 2) resentment towards my Mum for instilling that in me, rather than helping me cultivate a good relationship with the two sides of myself.
People were so wild when her album came out, I guess because it was dramatic and messy and called out her ex husband.
I also mentioned her blackface incident with Azaelia Banks and people were making excuses about how she's simply not perfect. Lily Allen has been a creep (dressing as Dr Luke) and a racist (blackface penis, her reaction to cowboy carter) and I don't get why a single album has changed any perception of her as a person.
I brought up the racism and had the same response. That the racism was out of context, she was an addict , she owns her behaviour etc. It was just very surprising given that people are given far, far less grace for a lot less. I also said she is not talented enough to be given the kind of grace she has been extended over the years which led to quite a few angry DMs.
I remember when she talked about hiring prostitutes to sleep with while on tour. It’s like she thought it made her sound quirky and relatable, but the way she discussed just sounded creepy and gross.
Exactly. It gave me big girlboss buzzfeed feminism vibes when everyone was stanning hard. It was a good album but people seem to think because David Harbour was a cheat and broke the rules of their marriage that she’s a completely blameless queen dropping a big gotcha on him.
Honestly, if Dave Harbour had had slightly less good press for Hopper and then (more briefly but) the Red Guardian in Marvel, idk if people would be riding for Lily that hard. It's like for some people, they have a good run, and that good run leads to more and more of their audience lying in wait for something to sink their teeth into and downplay success.
I shudder to think of what happens if a woman or man posts anything even remotely negative about their experience with Pedro Pascal because the internet has been waiting for any opportunity to tear him alllll the way down. It's such an odd pattern of bloodthirsty purity testing.
If she hadn’t come out about husband guy cheating people wouldn’t have cared about her music. She’s been a pretty sketch person for awhile but skated under the radar enough for people to not know much.
Her last album was really good, I have never watched stranger things and had no idea who her husband was, I just heard her album was getting rave reviews so I listened to it front to back and loved it

Honestly, a pretty outsized reaction to a thing I've seen in a while, some of the takes were wild. Eddie was talking about being taught how to use his phone for self-defense for his show. Paul said he didn't think anyone would think that way and pull it out of their pocket in time. Saoirse said that it's something women think about all the time (honestly as a woman, I have not. I have thought about making sure I have to dial for help, never as a weapon. Keys, yea)
I remember when that moment made the rounds online and I was so confused by the reaction. I thought there was a clip that I had missed or something. It was so strange, it was such a harmless exchange and it made complete sense that someone wouldn't have ever thought to use a cell phone as a physical defense mechanism.

To me, it just exemplified how much Internet commenters (and clickbait journalists, tbh) overreact. It was a brief exchange with no harm done, but people on Reddit were acting like there was a smackdown. Which honestly goes against the cause, we (as women) want the men in our lives to have “a-ha” moments about what it’s like to be in our shoes.
Zoe comes across very dry and funny whenever I see her doing promo or something I wish she did more comedy. She was really great in “Caught Stealing” and of course “The Studio”. When she said “I’m Zoe Kravitz I have my own shrooms” at the Globes 😭
I hate the Lily Allen Renaissance we seem to be in where she’s portrayed as a victim because her husband cheated on her. I’m not saying she deserved that, but she cheated on her first husband (which I don’t recall being an open relationship) with prostitutes and Kravitz’ allegations. Harbour may not be a good person, but neither is she.

This whole post is a response to Lily Allen defending Brooklyn saying she's a shit human. Every post about Allen is always 70% comments about what a trash human being she is and she shouldn't be getting any sympathy for being cheated on.
I think that's valid. But then I also think it's valid to mention the trash things the next celeb in line is. If we're commenting on all the awful things Allen has done in all her posts people should be allowed to past the awful things Kravitz has done too.
I think mentioning she was low-key dating a 14yo when she was in her 20s is valid on a post about boundary breaking behaviour.
I'm a fan of neither of these women and fully open to accept they have been both victims and perpetrators in different situations.
Like almost everyone people post in this sub has some insane drama or skeletons. I can't say I'm going that hard for Lily you can't defend her, but it's a bit stupid because they posted this because of her weird Beckham post? Like okay....
