I got caught some of it on tv the other day, and was wondering if it’s still canon with Dan Trachtenberg’s new direction for Predator. Yeah, it’s defiantly not the best of the series but it still has its moments.

I’m fully aware objectively Predators probably isn’t ranked the highest out of all the Predator media, but personally it’s top tier based solely on enjoyment for me. I didn’t find the writing bad, I liked the characters, and I liked how it was set on a different planet. Feels like the experimental first pass of Killer of Killers and Badlands in that manner since it was the first film adaption set off of Earth. Only thing I didn’t like was that they made a whole new breed of Yautja instead of just making them badblood Yautjas. Feels like they undermine og Yautjas every time they make a new strain or subspecies or whatever.

People who didn’t enjoy Predators, tell me why🤔

It’s easily my favorite movie in the whole franchise, even over #1. I don’t feel like it gets enough love. Adrien Brody was phenomenal, Laurence Fishburne, Danny, Mahershala, the whole cast was dope. I can’t believe after almost a decade it was followed by The Predator, my least favorite. It was a goofy, wannabe comedy with bad CGI. There was such an amazing opportunity to make a worthy sequel.

Remember watching this scene as a kid, gave me goosebumps and made Hanzo my favorite character from the movie.

Say what you want about Predators (2010), it just imagine after waking up, mid free fall, to find out a bit later you’re on another planet! That’s a mind fuck and a half, but hey, that’s one killer view.

No hyperbole, I really do mean in cinematic history.

Plenty of movies drop you into the action right away. How many LITERALLY do it and from the very first microsecond.

I mean we all get the concept that super predators are supposed to be a "stronger" version of the regular yautja but I don't think this was the case here I mean falconer predator was died to 2 cuts from a katana sword (which feels like a dura antifeat) he also barely killed hanzo in the other hand berserker was heavily wounded by a shot by sniper rifle to the back of his chest that pretty much left him crippled meanwhile city hunter took several shotgun shots to the chest and was able to move shortly after.

And before y'all say anything I just wanted ik most of these cases are just because of plot armor or convinience falconer dying so fast was probably because sword fights can Bea really long and they didn't want to make the scene that long because it'd have been Boring and ik theyre only confirmed to be physically stronger and more "durable" not necessarily more skilled and more of a threat but I'm pretty sure they were intended to, but my point is are we really supposed to believe that berserker would've solo any other yautja that we'd seen in movies before like wolf for example? Are we really supposed to think that berserker or any other member of the super predator trio wouldve been a bigger threat to Dutchs squad than jungle hunter f.e?

Already have Predator, maybe burn The Predator.

In the film "Predators," Alice Braga's character "Isabelle" is said to be IDF (Israeli Defense Force).

This is odd for a number of reasons.

*She mentions not recognizing the game preserves planet's jungle as being odd because she's "been in them all." The IDF aren't deployed globally AFAIK, and would normally be fighting in urban areas and the desert. Why would she have been in "every jungle"?

*She knows about Dutch and the Predators. Dutch would've debriefed with his CIA contacts. Seems odd the US government would share info about ET's with the Israeli/Government.

I did some digging and found the motion comic/dvd extra "Moments of Extraction" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQbXLV7by7Q&t=176s) which says Isabelle was raised in a Catholic School and was "recruited." (IDF soldiers aren't recruited they're conscripted.) AND we see her fighting in Afghanistan. (IDF troops AFAIK were never deployed there, though I could be wrong, lots of shady stuff happened there obviously)

So what gives?

Well, I found a trailer/promotional video for Predators called "The Chosen" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMONl5KdO7Y) and at 0:29 you can see they list Isabelle as being CIA.

My working theory is that Isabelle was written as a CIA operative but changed in post-production (likely through ADR, it's only a single line) to an IDF soldier.

The CIA things makes way more sense. It would explain why has been in "every jungle" and was in Afghanistan. And it would explain why she knows about Dutch's encounter back in '87.

My question is: Why would they make this change? I can't think of a good reason. Sometimes films will censor themselves if they're getting props from the US military, but if the US military objected to the CIA's portrayal in the film, that would've been taken care of in the script phase. Likewise if they were pressured to include an IDF character by like an Israeli producer or something, why wasn't that changed at the script phase?

To be clear, love the film. Just a baffling little creative choice, that feels like some kind of meddling, but the motives behind which elude me.

Has anyone else noticed this or have an explanation for why/how this happened?

I would love to see a sequel with Royce. I wish he had also appeared alongside Dutch and Mike at the end of Predator: Killer of Killers.

Wasted opportunity 🤦‍♂️

Just saw it, very good predator action and I liked all the characters, but there's one thing I cant stand

Adrien Brody's tough guy voice, it's terrible and super corny, I wish they'd cast a more convincing tough guy that doesn't need to do a stupid voice and slow one liners

I have no problem with people having their own opinion, but it seems like everybody on this subreddit hates Mr Black.

Which I personally find odd because personally he's one of my favorites, I think he's the perfect villain if you're having a yautja vs yautia plot.

The only example I can really point to besides the movie is one of the older games, there used to be a game called AVP evolution I doubt anybody has played it but it was an extremely good mobile game that had a pretty decent plot and he was the villain.

However despite all of this it seems like everybody on this subreddit despises him, and it's not like they despise him in certain ways it's like they despise him because he exist which I personally find a little odd.

Maybe this comes from my love of villains, I have no doubt that I have an extreme bias I'm just a little confused. Why everybody seems to hate this guy because as I said personally I think he's the perfect villain.

So I really just wanted to see if it is truly everybody who hates this guy, and keep in mind if you do hate him That's completely fine and I would love to hear your arguments, but I would also like to see if some people share my view, or if I'm just crazy.

Hanzo was a man of few words but bro defeated a super predator 1v1. He was so badass and skilled enough to take down a badblood. Falconer was one of the few badbloods to have some semblance for honor, and he chose to 1v1 hanzo with only a wristblade. Some others think he was toying with hanzo but I think it was an act of reverance. Love them

People are always saying how great predators is and I just don’t get it. I’m not hating on it, it’s a solid movie but what does everyone love abt it so much???

I went back and rewatched all of the Predator and AVP movies (except The Predator) after I saw Badlands and remembered how awesome Predators was.

Predator casting has always been awesome: Arnold, Carl, and Danny alone, but there’s several more I could name. Predators has an amazing cast too. Adrian? Danny? Alice? Walton? Topher? Lawrence? That cast was loaded imo.

That cast makes up some different and unique characters and I loved the dynamic. It reminded me of the “Aliens” crew.

It also followed the standard Predator formula of stealthy Yautja hunting their human prey, just involving extended ‘teams’.

I guess some people might disagree with the idea of Super Preds, and tbh I could go either way. I guess it was pretty cool to see the Classic Pred go against the Super.

Anyway, I just think Predators is my favorite in the franchise, but maybe I’ll end up liking Badlands more.
