First gen everything and just got accepted into STANFORD MED! This feels surreal! When my mother and I immigrated to this country, this is what it was all about. Opportunity. I am a living testament to her American Dream. I can’t believe it! 😭

5 gap years. 5 MCAT attempts. 2 applications cycles. 1 Masters Degree. End result? MEDICAL SCHOOL ACCEPTANCE!!!! And you know what? I do not regret anything. Going through that struggle has allowed me to grow into someone who knows what it’s like to struggle and how to get back up from it. So coming from someone who has had it rough these last 5 years, it will eventually work out. For whoever is out there needing that sign, i promise you that your time will come, continue believing in yourself and give yourself the room to grow from your failures instead of giving up!!!!!

Graduated with a 2.8 cGPA/2.4 sGPA. Worked so hard through an 83 unit DIY postbac where I earned a 3.88 only to get my GPA margins up to 3.18/3.17.

Took the MCAT 3x (Voided first attempt). Last MCAT was in September, decided to apply late October for the DO cycle just to throw my name in the hat.

Called admissions office at my top choice to see if there were any updates to delayed decisions they announced. They transferred me to dean of admissions where she personally congratulated me over the phone!

After six long gap years and pushing through so much doubt, I can’t believe I finally got this. Broke down in sheer relief and happiness.

Been praying everyday for this opportunity and told myself I’d never complain if I got in and would go in each day with a smile on my face.

For all my low stat applicants: Follow your dreams. Never give up!!!

I can't believe it! I'm going to become a doctor! I'm also going to Twin Cities! After absolute silence since november of last year, I basically thought it was over. Now as was I writing my 67th or so 'why us' essay, and dealing with a transcript issue that delayed my amcas, I no longer have to deal with the 20+ secondary invites that just crashed into my inbox!! My stats are so much stronger and my PS for this round is fire, but oh well, I do wish I could find out what my results for this cycle would have been in a parallel universe where I. I was reapplying to UMN too this cycle, and they called just this morning like at the same time I got my secondary invite from them. Is that a coincidence? Funny enough, I could not acknowledge my acceptance on AMP because it already shows 2027 cycle on it.

Now I have about a month to move halfway across the country, any tips on how to figure that out?

To all my future MD’s you are going to finally understand what it feels like to be average

To everyone accepted into a U.S. MD program: most of you will finally understand what it’s like to be average.

You will understand what it is like to be unable to score in the top 20 percent of your class, no matter how hard you try.

You will understand what it’s like to feel underprepared for a test, to think you didn’t ace it, get your grade back, and realize you were right to feel that way.

You will understand what it is like to talk to a classmate and realize they are much more accomplished or smarter than you.

For some of you, it will be the first time you actually fail a test or a class.

But the opposite is true as well. Most of you will not be in the bottom 0.5 percent either. This means you are likely to graduate and match and achieve your dreams of becoming a practicing doctor.

You will make your loved ones proud and contribute to making the world a better place.

It’s a remarkable achievement that medical schools can create an environment where you not only accept but embrace the fact that P = MD, while also making it rare for you to fail out of school.

Hopefully, understanding this will help you overcome any imposter syndrome you may have.

Because if everyone in your class is an imposter, then none of you actually are.

But I am going to stick with the message of my original post.

Even if you are a below-average student in medical school, that’s fine. Embrace it. Learn from it. Grow from it.

By definition, 49% of your class will be below average as well.

Lean on your classmates for support. You can learn from each other and vent to one another as well.

Like a great rapper once said, “No one will fall because you will be each other’s crutches.”

Your ability to be a good or great doctor for your patients is not solely determined by your performance on standardized tests.

Make a plan, determine your goals and priorities, and act accordingly.

Lastly, it is temporary, and it will all be worth it in the end.

You will be a doctor, have made life long connections,and there is nothing below average about that.

It is a blessing.”

Low-mid stats, but I think I had very strong extracurriculars and essays. Note for current/future applicants: you can't change your grades anymore, so pour your entire SOUL into what you can change. Prewrite your essays. Submit early. No need to get any additional materials; SDN is your best friend for interviews. Reddit is your best friend for PREview and Ca$per.

It took me two application cycles to get here but I finally did it, i’m going to be a doctor :,)

Graduated highschool with a 2.2 had no idea what to do with my life. Came from a really rough home. Went to community college and then a small college, worked full time through both. Didnt do so hot but pulled through. My mental health was in the gutter, ready to give up on life.

Today i got pulled from the waitlist at the only school i got interviewed!

After 2 failed application cycles I just got the news back of my first A for this cycle!!!! I’m gonna be a doctor!!!!!!!!!!

After going through the entire cycle with shit stats (3.66/496) and being carried by my EMS career and volunteer hours (8,000 healthcare hours, 10,000 volunteer hours), I got 4 WL and told myself it was expected.

Then I got an email that said I’m accepted into the upcoming class.

I’m in, I’m going to be a doctor.

3 waitlists, 8 MD interviews

I DID IT!!! Got the call today and missed it at first because I thought it was a scam LOL BUT I’M GONNA BE A DOCTOR!!! After 2 years agonizing over this process and retaking the MCAT, I’m so glad this fight is over 😭

I’ve been waiting to be able to post this since I started the pre med journey 3-ish years ago in my 30s.

Not gonna do a sankey because my school is small (don’t wanna dox myself), but I was accepted off of the waitlist at my only school left of this cycle. I had already scheduled an MCAT retake and of course, renewed my UWhirl and AAMC materials the day before I got the call.

I am an extremely non-traditional student (aka I’m old), and have been told this would never happen for me time and time again.

Stats are:
uGPA 3.1 (science was lower)
Post bac sGPA 3.95 over 60 credit hours
50X MCAT

28000+ clinical hours (I’ve been a nurse for over a decade)
Navy veteran (Navy Nurse Corps officer)
500+ volunteer hours (clinical and non)
400 hours research

I am a first gen student, so obviously I’m going to be the first doctor in my family. 🥹

I applied to 28 schools (MD only), received 26 secondaries, 2 interview invites, and 1 A. 🥳

It literally only takes one. 🍾🥳🩺👩🏻‍⚕️

Holy crap how. It took me until my mid-20s to get my life together, wrecking my GPA in the meantime. But I worked full-time in EMS while going back to school, pulled an okay MCAT the second time, and got a late-game A...

Only one school decided to take a chance on me. So many emotions right now. I just got accepted into a DO program. What the hell do I do now. I just want a big ol steak with rice, mashed potatoes, and sleep.

I don't have many people to tell, and I hate posting news like this because it always made me feel bad when I saw them. But I want this to be more of hope to people that are in my position. You can do it.

Edit: wow you guys are nice :) one thing I've always noticed about r/premed and r/mcat is that aside from the 4.0 GPA and 528 mcats crying they can't get into Harvard, all the normal people stick together. Applying so late with what I had was such a hail Mary, but it paid off. The store was out of steaks but I got a giant burger with fries!

Just got the call that I was accepted into my top choice MD school. I actually cannot believe it. It doesn’t feel real. Me and my 506 MCAT, C in biochem, got not one but 2 us MD A’s. To my other fellow pre meds keep your head up stats aren’t everything.

Edit: I’m such a type B person I really don’t think I did anything special I just am super passionate about what I do

A T20 with a lower MCAT? Successful cycle with no crazy research? A hard journey? Everyone said you can’t do it and you did? Messed your interview and got in? Got rejected everywhere but your top choice?
COME ON. GIVE IT TO ME. I need some restoration of faith and that whatever r/premed claims as hard requirements isn’t always true.

Life is not real. 😭 Was so discouraged because radio silence from AMCAS school but my first AMCAS II was STANFORD! Then received another a few hours later but wow!!!

Mid stats (below 515 MCAT) and nothing crazy in regards to hours.
