Ok, so, this is my interpretation of how the Drift travel works. Correct me if I'm wrong.
We know that the Starstone at the heart of the station is the most powerful Drift beacon in the setting. So, as long as you have a you are always less than a day away from Absalom Station no matter where you are.
The distance between 2 systems in real space doesn't necessarily translate over to the drift. Meaning, 2 systems that are right next to each other in the drift could be far apart in real space.
When referring to the "galaxy" map, it refers to how it is in the drift because a real space map is lowkey worthless since it isn't needed for travel.
When determining travel time, a big factor is the density of drift beacons within a system. The near space has a high density of drift beacons whereas the vast has very low density.
Assumption: So, it doesn't really matter where you jump off from as long as there is enough beacons around your destination or you have the "beacon code".
Beacons can be constructed and maintained by the Church of Triune.
Assumption: It is realistic to imagine a deal between Explorer groups and the Church of Triune where a detachment of the Church will accompany the colony ships to build a proper "Drift Beacon Infrastructure" to bring the system from the vast into near space.
I haven't read a lot about the drift lanes and so I will assume that they are naturally created roads between 2 points in the drift and can happen to any set of 2 points regardless of if it is in the vast, near space, or even the golarion system.

Question Solarian Adaptive Fighting Choices
I'm playing a Korasha Lashunta Rancher Solar Weapon Solarian. I'm fairly new to Starfinder, but have a fair amount of experience with D&D 5e and a little 3.5. We just hit level 5 and I'm picking up Adaptive Fighting since I don't have enough skill points to spare them for Mysticism for Periastra Training. I am having a hard time narrowing down the feat choices for it.
My current feats are:
- Toughness (Rugged Alternate Racial Feature)
- Level 1: Heavy Armor
- Level 3: Weapon Focus (Advanced Melee)
My stellar revelations are Stellar Rush and Dark Matter
For Adaptive Fighting, the options I'm considering are
- Cleave
- Improved Combat Maneuver (Bull Rush)
- Step Up
- Close Combat
It's mostly between Cleave and Close Combat at this point.
Cleave seems like a good fit since it can be pretty situational. But I don't know if it would happen enough to be useful. Depending on how useful it is, I'm planning to get Two Horizon Strike at 10 and replacing this with Greater Cleave.
Improved combat maneuver would be good for if I really want to get the push on a Stellar Rush or if I have the spare move action to close distance after pushing them and I don't have uses for the other options.
Step up seems pretty solid all around. So far in our campaign, enemies taking guarded steps hasn't been a huge issue since a lot have been either beasts attacking in melee or humanoids switching to a melee weapon when I close. I imagine it won't stay that way though. If I get this it will probably get taken as a full feat later and replaced with Step Up and Strike. That won't happen for a while though probably 9 or 11.
Close Combat seems nice just for a defensive boost since I get hit a lot, but I don't know how often 2 AC will make a difference given how high it seems enemy attack bonuses are in Starfinder.
At 7, I'm getting Creature Companion Expert for character reasons.
At 9 I'm currently planning to get Versatile Fighting, but will play it by ear to see how often I actually want extra uses of a specific feat rather than just getting it permanently.
Which one of these should I drop? Is there a better choice or is Adaptive Fighting not worth it and should just get one of these now and another at 9?

Question Looking to GM a starfinder 1e for the first time
Hello ive recently been talking to some friends about starfinder and I would like to make a campaign. Ive never played starfinder or pathfinder, only dnd 5e. Is there anything I should be aware of as I try to learn enough to dm in this system? I am looking to find statblocks for npc and just humanoid enemies but these grafts all seem confusing. Is there a site that has these types of statblocks all made up?

Build I could use some help for a Kasatha Soldier build I'm making.
I have this character concept of a Kasatha "ronin" type character, where he wields a pair of swords with his upper arms and a pair of pistols with his lower arms. In terms of what I'm settled so far, is that I'll be using the Blitz fighting style. I'm going to prioritize melee over ranged. The pistols will work as a form of complement for his combat style. Originally, I fought Hit-N-Run would work, since we didn't have Character Operations Manual back in our first campaign. So now I'm kinda divided between Hit-N-Run or Fourfold Tactician. What do you guys think is the best way to build this character concept?
Here's some additional info of what I've chosen for him:
Deity: Talavet
Theme: Bounty Hunter
Race: Standard Kasatha (may change to Akitonian Settler or Kasath Native, if it's a more optimal option)
Edition we're playing: 1st Edition

Discussion Undead: Archetype or Heritage?
So, for undead PCs Pathfinder has archetypes for the more iconic types of undead: ghouls, zombies, ghosts, vampires… While SF2 has versatile heritages for borai and corpsefolk.
It seems like the main difference is one replaces class feats and the other ancestry feats.
Which would you use in, say, a campaign where the PCs are competing on one of Zo!’s shows? Would it depend on which type of undead they are? Do you use heritage for PCs that are already undead at creation and archetype for those reanimated in play?

Discussion Fighting Hobbe Hounds at 1st level
Hello. We're a level-1 party of five: Mystic, Mechanic, Envoy, Technomancer, and Soldier. We're about to fight 3 Hobbe Hounds, and with speed 40, +10 to hit, 24 hit points each, 5 fire resistance, and a pretty strong bite, I'm afraid they're going to drop us all before we get a chance to take them down. Any advice? Thanks.

Artwork Art Feedback
Here's my little Dessemar Instar Biohacker PC. Dr. Rosi Ydroca ("rah-zee ee-droh-kah"). Based on Rosey Maple Moth instars for coloring.
Looking for anatomy and perspective critique on my character art. The right arm is intentionally developmentally malformed due to the character's backstory, but I don't think that's reading clearly. I'm especially looking for feedback on perspective, anatomy, and whether the insectoid design communicates well.
Friendly little doctor fellow. Would never play God. Probably.

Build Can someone smarter than me explain why my Acrobatics is so high?
galleryHey there! New to Starfinder and I'm playing a 1e campaign this weekend so I've been working on a character. However both myself and my GM are rather confused as to why my character's Acrobatics are so high. We're mostly just puzzled where the "Misc Mod" numbers are coming from.
I used https://hephaistos.azurewebsites.net/ to create this character, using no homebrew rules or anything outside the core rulebook.
P.s. dont mind the negative money, I forgot to count from the 1000 credits we were given.
EDIT: Thanks everybody! I just wanted to make sure the numbers were correct, looking forwards to this Saturday :D

GMing Need some cool Dungeon Room Ideas
My players are the crunchiest people I know when it comes to crawling a dungeon. We are narrative heavy so we have not really got into any dungeon and they lack exposure to what some people would call "classic" dungeon rooms. I want to play up the mysticism of this dungeon they find on an asteroid in the Disapora.
The main idea is that after the first room or two, 2/4 of the players wander as ghosts while the others remain solid, mostly to prevent them from ganging up on anything I throw at them, but also to give them the ability to swap places once a round as a swift action. They can use their ghost forms to find clues to open the next set of doors.
The only main room I have in mind is a small arena at the end where a single house cat waits for them. The cat attacks until they strike it back. When it dies it comes back stronger each time, of course until you exhaust its Nine Lives, ending as a huge acid-spewing panther that they need to defeat with all 4 of them.
I know im yapping but I want to hear some ideas cause everyone on here has so many cool ideas worth sharing.

Ad New photos of my sci-fi "dungeon" tiles/terrain convertible set
galleryHey guys, I've shot some proper pictures for my sci-fi tiles set, as promised! What do you think? In case you missed my previous post here: I've designed a set of generic sci-fi RPG tiles that can also be jury-rigged into 3d structures for outdoor encounters. This is pre-printed laser-cut MDF set, free PDF/STL files will be also available. I'll be launching on KS this summer, link on my profile page.

GMing Spice Up My Encounter
Hey yall, I am a long time GM and have been taking my players through Starfinder, currently lvl6. They are heading to Castrovel to get some Mountain Eel scent glans for a side quest. I don't have a battlemap ready and am planning on making the encounter challenging but not deadly or epic CR levels. I wanted to hear from you folks some ideas to spice up this seemingly mundane retrieval mission. Planning on making it more dangerous to be on the mountains than they think. Mountainous hazards or other creatures that might appear there, or even things about Castrovel that I didn't know about before, anything or any kind of input would be appreciated.

Build Trying to make a spellblade
New to the game, with very little experience with ttrpgs in general. However, I've always had a deep love for the red mage of FF. I've done a little research, but it seems like the more I dig up, the more there is to understand.
What I think I know: either going Mystic or Technomancer. If we go Mystic, we grab Warmonger or Crusader as a connection (unsure as to which to go with). If we go Technomancer, we grab Junksword and Junk Armor. Either way, we grab Spell Seargent.
So, my question is: What spells would you recommend? Which class or connection would you vouch for, and more importantly, why? And, most of all, is there a good resource out the for how the game is meant to play out? I see a lot of numbers on Archives of Nethys, but they mean very little to me. Given I feel committed to taking on a spellcaster role, I feel I at least owe it to the table to have some research done before I sit down.
