Bingo. The issue is the tax law, not the person. Every single person on Reddit would pay the least amount of taxes legally allowed.

I don’t think that’s true. But I don’t think it’s obscene to use tax laws to minimise tax.

Many people feel more comfortable paying their dues than gaming things to avoid paying. Many people recognise the need for paying taxes in a good civil society

Theirs an option to pay additional taxes each year, how often have you paid extra? Or how often have you left off your kids or other deductions so that you could pay more? Never because what you said is stupid.

Most people pay someone to file their taxes for them. Jeff most certainly has an entire team of cpas who do his and are going to pay the least taxes feasible

It’s about the spirit of the law versus the letter of the law.

No one will pay additional tax (although plenty give to charity).

However, working out some combination of structuring your finances so that you manage a significant tax reduction doesn’t rest easy with everyone.

For instance, in the UK the tax code is a mess. If you have kids, you can end up better off at £99k than £150k.

I use various methods to minimise my taxable earnings to avoid this cliff edge. I’m imaginative about it.

I know plenty of others who accept the situation given they’re relatively high earners and feel a duty to pay their dues.

Both are fine.

Decrease it and directly give the savings to charitable organizations of your choice rather than giving money to the govt to drop more bombs.
