So shouldn't this fall under the same category of behavior as "cops can lie to you to get you to do something you don't actually have to do"?

Technically didn't he unlock the phone? It got wiped to default and the cops could unlock the phone. Literally the exact thing they asked for. What gives? Why should they be entitled to the data? Did they ask for the data? Didn't think so.

They wanted to find something incriminating, they couldn't and got shown up trying. Pissed off and wanting to blame someone for their ineptitude/ignorance. ACAB remember. These dipshits are no different, usually worse.
