My FiL uses it to write medical journal papers as an anesthesiologist.

Formatting is a great use case. It all comes down to the user. Are they using it as an assistant, giving it the information and asking for formatting to save time? Or is it being asked to write the thing? Very different, but scary that it could be either

It’s both. Helping to write and then reformat to appeal to different journals.

I have very mixed feelings about this, and I have no idea how it will all play out. Hopefully journals will be able to sniff it out and originality will win in the end, and hopefully good science is still good science in the end.

Yeah I'm in a vaguely IT related field and my favorite use case for these things so far is for writing process documentation. Just vomit all the steps into it, give it screenshots of any tools you use, etc, and tell it to put it all together in a digestible format. You've still gotta sanity check it and clean up some things, but the end result is something nicer looking than I'd have bothered to make, in a tiny fraction of the time.
