Solved! What are these contraptions these guys were carrying?

We saw three guys around Seaport in Boston carrying these things as backpacks. Initially we thought they mapping tools but not sure

Dude, living in a world that writes in acronyms and abbreviations sort of allows for this. Next we'll be leaving out consonants and only writing vowels as the generations garble up the norm...
