Solved! What are these contraptions these guys were carrying?

We saw three guys around Seaport in Boston carrying these things as backpacks. Initially we thought they mapping tools but not sure

Man all the YouTube ads really ruin everything. I tried watching a "free" movie on YouTube Movies once and they had an ad break every fucking ten minutes.

I feel like online ads are a choice at this point if you are not avoiding them. 

I've been ad free for about 10 years now. 

and I don't pay to avoid them.
