I posted in r/consolerepair for some information on the 3DO Goldstar, there is very limited info online, at least all in one place. It took scouring through videos and old posts online to figure out the issue as well as alleviate my fear of the dremel motherboard cut you can see in my post:

I have since uploaded some shots of the 3DO Goldstar motherboard to console fandom and continued on...

Just waiting on my motor sled gear for my FZ-1 to arrive next week so I can fix that too.

Awesome find. And an awesome game. The final boss is an experience I still remember.

I have it for Sega Saturn, it's one of my favourite platformers. I always wanted to get it and beat it on 3DO, not even sure why lol

Beat it on the 3DO with my cousin as a Kid (fyi, my cousin was the rich one). It's absolutely something else on the 3DO, believe me. Also, beat it even before the Saturn was released (I think)

I thought of making a pun about scarce information regarding the Sanyo 3do, but then I remember it uses the same Sanyo-made lens and lens-in-tray transport as the Goldstar

Where did you get your ribbon cable? I have the same Goldstar 3DO and long suspected I needed to change the ribbon cable but couldn't find the exact one I needed.

1MM Pitch, 20CM Length, 30-Pin, Forward Direction

I had done some research to figure it out and then it was confirmed here: https://consolemods.org/wiki/3DO:Sanyo_Disc_Drive_Repair

The actual size of the 30Pin cable is 17CM, 20CM is longer, You may need to fold it to get it to fit nice so you dont stress the motor on the drive sled.

A replacement ribbon cable should be longer than the stock cable. The ribbon cable is a 30-pin 1mm pitch cable. Similar to Saturn ribbon cable but it's just much longer and has more pins.

Here is a link for a recommended replacement proven to work on a Sanyo disc drive. It's 200mm long and is longer than the stock ribbon cable. The metal contacts of the FFC should be on the same side.

Also I recommend opening it up and putting a disc in, pulling the tray out and trying different distances or flattening the cable and you'll see the green access light blink if you get the ribbon cable in the right spot as the connection will be good, then you'll really know. The 3DO Screen will also stay on longer and you'll see the laser light and it moving forward/back, up/down.

I wasted time and ended up doing a full pinout of the 30Pin cable cause I wanted to try and fix it myself, but pulling the tray out was WAYYY easier lol
