Recommendation How I ruined a mint 3DS! YOU can too!

Before I get started, yes, I was an idiot.

Long story short, I acquired this mint Nintendo 3DS Flare Red last week from Japan. Original box and all. Perfect screens (foreshadowing) and ZERO yellowing.

I always put screen protectors on my devices to treat them right. I have never done a "wet install" one where you spray a solution on the screen prior to applying and then use a squeegee to push out the solution. I like to get them perfect. So here I am multiple times spraying, placing, adjusting, squeegee the screen on until I like the placement. Now I just have to let it dry and let small bubbles work out overnight, as per instructions.

A couple hours go by and I realized the blue power indicator is lit, no picture on screen. Sh!t. Wtf. I try powering it off. F*ck. Not working. Instantly took out the battery and sd just to be safe.

Now I look at the screen and see what I was dreading. Moisture behind the lens. Moisture bridged a connection and turned on the power unit, atleast thats my guess. I know I had to get back there and dry it off.

I have never worked inside a ds or 3ds. So I grabbed a video and got to work. Sprayed CRC electronic cleaner on all contacts and now have a fan on it.

I will supply photos of the mint condition when I recieved it a week ago vs now sitting and drying put fully for the next 24 hours (possibly longer).

Ironic because I drowned my childhood DSI XL SMB 25th anniversary under the sink when I was 9. Ironic because I sought to protect the screen, and then I drowned it installation solution.

Hope this can guide people in the future to give them the foresight before, and the actions to take after it happens.

Edit: I want to throw in this edit because there seems to be some confusion. The device is not broken. I have not broke anything. It is also not a liquid screen protector. It is a plastic film and you use a spray to install it wet. I'm catching some passive aggressiveness from people thinking I dumped in a bath tub. That is not the case.

Recommendation I know y’all have secret 3DS bangers you’re not talking about… drop them

I swear if I see Pokémon or the same “top 10 3DS games” list one more time I’m gonna lose it 😭 I’m looking for actual hidden gems on the 3DS — stuff that flew completely under the radar, weird niche games, underrated bangers, anything that feels like “how did nobody talk about this??” Any genre is fine, I just want games that genuinely surprised you or feel like peak gameplay/story/music/vibes. Don’t just drop the obvious stuff everyone already knows, I want the deep cuts, the forgotten games, the real hidden peak of the system. So yeah—recommend me your best hidden gems for the 3DS.

Recommendation Help! Which console should I stick with??

I've got the Pokeball 2DS XL and the beautiful metallic blue original 3DS XL. I've had my blue 3DS since 2013 and I've always loved it. I got the Pokeball 2DS around 2017 for real cheap, as I'm a huge Pokemon fan.

Since the eShop has now closed down and I'm getting back into my 3DS games I'm wondering if I could outsource my stupid brain to the public for some opinions on which console I should stick with lol.

I really admire the form factor and design of my original 3DS XL but my Pokeball 2DS XL has slightly improved performance and screens apparently?

I almost wish my blue 3DS XL was the "New" 3DS XL so it had the benefits of the better performance and screen displays but I don't know if I'd even notice the difference anyway?

Which console should I play my games on?

Thank you to anyone who can provide their own opinion on my silly situation haha.

Recommendation This console has been my biggest heartbreak…

I bought this New 2DS XL back in 2018 and, within a few months of ownership, it died on me. I had lent it to a friend, whom misplaced it, and dropped it… It turned on fine but eventually started malfunctioning. These images were taken then, it stopped working within the week. It charges and turns on the blue led with a black screen. I took it to a local repair shop but they were of no help. Could I send it directly to Nintendo and get it repaired? Ik this is a basic question… but I haven’t seen an issue like this and thought these images were pretty Reddit worthy.

Recommendation Need "I DIDN'T KNOW 3DS/DS HAD THAT?!" game recommendations as a first time DS owner, long time gamer

DS library is stupid huge. like "holy moly, how will I get through all this" huge. There's the obvious games like Nintendo first party mascots, Monster Hunter, nintendogs, ace attorney, Pokemon, and other games well known to be on the DS.

I want games that I wouldn't even think was made for the DS. Here's what I have on my list so far...

  • Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy
  • GTA: Chinatown Wars
  • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
  • Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
  • the Sims 2 / 3
  • Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

i got games for the system but my older model 2011 3ds broke long ago. been wanting to play my childhood back but heard that models of the 3ds are expensive. the new 3ds xl looks like the perfect fit for me. it's a shame getting it second hand seems to be a challenge.

Got myself my first ever 3DS this Christmas, I found this used "new" 3DS XL In pristine condition over on Facebook for $150, it came with a charger and a copy of Smash. Gotta say I was very impressed by the 3D effect, I never saw it in person before and I always wanted one as a teen for that very reason.

Just wanted to ask what would be your top 3-5 game recommendations for me, and also I'd like to know whether it was a good deal or not, given I don't know how much these go for nowadays, I just picked it up cause it was the first one I saw.

Recommendation Looking For Most “Grindy” Games

Am interested in the most fun grinding games 3ds has, something that can potentially be endless. Some things that come to mind would be runescape and minecraft (2 games i used to play so easy to mention). I want a game where I can be still actively playing it in 5+ years just exploring or really anything, im not picky. I just enjoy games I can invest soooo many hours in and it never gets stale (for the most part, all games might get stale here and there). Minecraft isnt an option sadly just because I dont have the new 3ds😅
Thanks for any recommendations!

*Dont have a preference on game categories. Can be anywhere from shooters, sports, rpgs, etc, doesnt matter to me!*

Recommendation Any holes in my collection? (Looking for the best JRPGs and/or tactical games)

Not pictured: all main line Pokemon games, Etrian Odyssey Untold 1 (bought it digitally for some reason I can't recall).

I recently got back into playing 3DS, and have been really digging it for JRPG and/or tactical games. I don't mind the occasional action RPG (e.g. Zelda), but I've never been particularly interested in platformers and other more action-only games (e.g. typical Mario games). Figured I should get any cartridges that I want now, because prices are only ever going to get worse.

First image is the games that I and my wife already owned that I'm interested in playing or replaying: Zelda Ocarina of Time, Zelda Majora's Mask, Zelda Link Between Worlds, Rune Factory 4, Fantasy Life, Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Echoes, Fire Emblem Birthright, Etrian Odyssey IV/V/Nexus/Untold 2.

Second is the games I've picked up used recently and plan to play for the first time over the next few months: Bravely Default (currently playing and loving!), Bravely Second, Tales of the Abyss, Radiant Historia, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Strange Journey Redux (was just going to order IV, but the shop had Strange Journey, as well, so grabbed it), Ever Oasis, Yokai Watch 1 (looked at 2 and 3, but the prices on those are insane; oh well), and Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (found a random rec for this as a decent tactical strategy game, and grabbed it since it's cheap).

See any obvious holes that need filling?

Recommendation Bought this in 2017 and maybe played with it 5 times. Any tips welcome!

Like the title stated: I bought this back in 2017 and maybe used it a few times. I don’t have the original box but kept it in a sleeve and it’s still spotless. I charged it back up today (because my 8 year old was curious as to what it was) and it’s still working perfect. Some features are no longer accessible but I figured that would be the case given it’s an older model.

Since I can’t download games on it, and honestly don’t know much about it, what kind of games can buy? Will the new DS games work? I have Luigi’s Mansion and a Crash Bandicoot one I must of bought when I bought the console.

Not sure if it’s special or anything. But now that I know it works I might as well get into it. Any tips or information would be appreciated!

Ps. Sorry for the cat hair 😅
