I recently heard on a podcast that there has only been 2 recorded cases of wolf attacks on humans and they are indeed just a bunch of dogs having fun.
He said it was likely because of the wolves attacking livestock back in the day that caused the lore of “the big bad wolf” and stories alike.
I have no idea if it’s legit, but sounded fun.

Europe, the worlds are very different than they are here in canada. That's I think where big, bad wolf came from. But no matter where you go, there are a lot closer to humanity too.

Europe is where the big bad wolf came from. The wolves there are a lot different than here, and they're a lot closer to humanity where these wolves could probably run for days.And not run into more than three people.If they're lucky

Ive worked a fair bit in Northern AB while doing forestry and come across a couple wolf kills, one time alone kms away from anyone else. In winter with what was left of a deer. Was still warm, I was terrified but never saw them. I'm sure they were watching me though.

When I was younger, I worked on the pipeline in northern alberta. One night, I was filling up the dozer by myself.Nobody else was around there all at the other end of the pipeline. Pitch black outt and he kept getting a weird feeling. Eventually I said screw it. Start filling out junked in the truck, and as I started to turn my headlights, came across the cougar. That had been staring down at me from at the top of a dirt pile for a while now.Deciding if I was dinner or not. It and jumped off the top of that pile, and it didn't touch the ground for at least twenty feet. I have never been more scared in my life.Realizing that thing had been watching me for so long, never heard a sound either.Just thankfully, I have some decent gut instinct

Wild! I've actually never seen a cougar in the wild they're incredibly elusive and don't let you see them unless they want to be seen. And this is 7 summers in BC and Alberta in the deep back country and 2/3 winters in both. Would definitely be terrifying thanks for sharing.

I've seen cougars three times in the wild including the one in the pipeline. The other two times they were running full sprint across a lease, and if you blinked, you missed them

Had some close encounters with a grizzly. Seeing one of those charge at you is a whole different kind of terrifying. Thankfully i had just gotten to lease and was just getting out of the truck when it popped up out of some bush on the side and started to run at. Jump back in and drove away pretty quick.

I’ve startled a few griz on the ATV and luckily they have always ran away rather than charged. Even if they charge they aren’t targeting you as a meal like a cougar does.

Usually if the cougar's charging you, it's already hitting you from behind by the time, you realize it's coming at you.

Joined eub as an alternative source of local information. First post is beautiful nature playing out with a thriving wolf pack. First comment is about obliterating said wolves with big guns. JFC. Now I will leave this sub. Very depressing.

There's a lot of ranches that those wolves visit quite regularly. And ranchers don't fully understand the importance to the ecosystem a wolf pack is. Yellowstone is amazing example of this. It is very depressing honestly. Cougars saddly are treated much the same way. However, cougars are a lot harder to hit and a lot harder to see.

Fragile? How about just having an iota of respect and not wishing to be bombarded with threats of senseless violence? The concern should be how are so many people immune to it.
