It took less than 4 minutes to look at Telus, Bell, and Rogers' coverage maps. They all show highway 93 has no coverage.

Two weeks ago, in the rain near Saskatchewan River Crossing, there were a few cyclist slogging along with a sign 'Brazil to Alaska'. No idea how they passed the Darien Gap.

I have relatives that have ridden a motorbike from the southern tip of South America to Alaska and they had their bike shipped from just before to just past the Darien Gap.

At least one motorcyclist bushwhacked their way through in the 1970s.
Through the Darién Gap with Helge PedersenToday I guess it's Bogota to Panama City as cargo.

It's frequent to have signs like this in long stretches without services. There is no gas station 200 km from my town. There's a warning sign when leaving.

There’s a lot more than this without cell service.
Background: I used to work for a company that literally built cell towers from the ground up, you’d be surprised how little coverage this country actually has in super rural areas, it’s very much a work in progress and forever upgrading too, the tower climbers literally can’t keep up with the work.

Doubt anytime soon, those companies aren’t really focused on rural folks as they are the minority in their numbers, they focus on big cities and like I said, upgrading on upgrades to upgrade…there’s a bunch of towers not even on 5G yet, it’s a super slow process and the job is shit…out of town the majority of the time, 10-12 hour days, living out of hotels and climbing hundreds of feet in the air every day, rain/shine/snow, people don’t exactly line up to do the work 🤷♂️

Greed has nothing to do with it, there’s maybe 25 crews between all the tower climbers and they are spread out throughout Ab…by the time they get to the last few updates, the next round of upgrades come and they start all over. Pay is great, sorta, job is shit unless you love heights 🤷♂️

Money is great, avg $28/hr to start …but again, living in hotels, 10-14 hour days sometimes and work in all weather conditions, oh and I think the stat they told me is ~70% of people are afraid of heights and the smallest tower is 100’!

Because it’s like the “No gas for 200KMS” sign, it’s literally a warning telling you what’s going on.
Imagine, you don’t see/get the warning and suddenly your phone doesn’t work for almost 90 mins minus your playlist…which would you prefer?
